2012 Mock Draft
Just figure I would post this before this forum section is gone lol. 1. Alshon Jeffrey, WR, South Carolina – Explosive playmaker, gives us a true #1 WR. 1. Donta Hightower, ILB, Alabama – Phenomenal athlete that would become the leader of our defense for the next decade. 2. Nick Perry, DE, USC – Explosive, great athlete, can become franchise pass rusher. 3. Julian Miller, DE, West Virginia - Quick athlete and very good pass rusher. 4. Winston Guy, FS, Kentucky – Is very fast and can become a compliment to TJ. 4. Dan Herron, RB, Ohio State – A short, quick, scat back. Would be a solid 3rd string RB. 5. Mike Martin, DT, Michigan – All heart and hustle, would be a solid rotational guy 6. Trinton Sturdivant, OT, Georgia – Depth on o-line 7. Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State – Project for Mike Holmgren
QB Colt McCoy/Brandon Weeden/Jarrett Brown RB Peyton Hillis/Montario Hardesty/Daniel Herron FB Owen Marecic WR Greg Little/Mohammed Massaqoui/Carlton Mitchell WR Alshon Jeffrey/Brian Robiskie/Joshua Cribbs TE Ben Watson/Evan Moore/Cameron Jordan LT Joe Thomas LG Eric Steinbach OC Alex Mack RG Shawn Lauvao RT Trinton Sturdivant/Jason Pinkston
DE Jabaal Sheard/Marcus Benard DT Phil Taylor/Mike Martin DT Ahtyba Rubin/Travis Ivey DE Nick Perry/Julian Miller WB D'Qwell Jackson/Kaluka Maiava MB Donta Hightower/Chris Gocong SB Scott Fujita/ CB Joe Haden/ Eric Wright CB Sheldon Brown/Buster Skrine FS Winston Guy/Eric Hagg SS TJ Ward/Mike Adams PK Phil Dawson PT Reggie Hodges LS Ryan Pontbriand
Obviously the holes on the roster are not including free agency this year.

Mike Martin will last no where near the 5th round. He goes at the top of the 2nd at the latest.

He went undrafted.

After a terrible broken leg.
Injuries might put Martin there, but Martin got a late 1st, early 2nd round grade after last year, and Michigan is now switching to a defense that will allow Martin to utilize his abilities even more.\
Barring injuries, he won't drop.

Why dont you project Luck in the third round then?

BLASPHEMY
I could but even with a torn ACL and 2 dead hookers in his car he will still be an amazing QB.
Mike Martin will be not be a 1st or 2nd round pick

Based on what? Barring injury, I guarantee he is. He is 305lbs and strong as an ox. He is quick enough that Mattison has experimented with him at LB in the spring. He was graded as a late 1st/ early 2nd rounder on a Michigan D that used him at a 3-3-5 NT instead of the 4-3 penetrating DT that he is.

There really is no point in even trying to have a discussion about it with you.

•He uses the same swim move over and over again. It works in college but it won't in the nfl
•He tries to do to much and gets taken out of plays
•He needs to work on his technique a lot and add weight

He does need to work on technique. No doubt.
He is 305lbs. He has plenty of weight. Fairley played at 290lbs last year.
He got taken out of play sometimes last year because we had 305lbs Martin at NT, 280lbs Van Bergen at one End, and 250lbs Roh at the other End. Teams double or triple teamed him every play.
I have watched every Michigan game of Martin's career, and believe me, he has way more than a swim move. He does use it a lot, but he also just pure bull rushes guys into the backfield with his strength.
You are entitled to your opinion, obviously, but when you have Dan Herron ranked ahead of Mike Martin, I seriously question your judgement.

Way too early to do this, but what the heck.
Assuming we're drafting 10 and Atlanta 30:
1 Andre Branch, DE, Clemson 1 Zach Brown, OLB, UNC 2 Eddie Whitley, FS, Va Tech 3 Chris Galippo, ILB, USC 4 Omar Bolden, CB, Arizona State 4 Stephen Good, OG, Oklahoma 5 Case Keenum, QB, Houston 6 Marquis Maze, WR, Alabama 7 Jeff Demps, RB, Florida

Wasn't Keenum thought of as a first rounder until he blew out his knee?

Yes. I think he'd be a pretty good WCO QB, so I looked to see where he is rated at this point - the few sites I looked at had him ranging from 3rd to undrafted, so I split the middle.

Just for clarification. I'm not questioning you, just pointing out how devastating that knee injury was for Keenum.

Didn't take it as questioning me. It is really early to be talking Draft - hell Keenum could go 1 overall and Luck could drop to the 5th between now and then. Not likely, but whodathunk 12 months ago that Cam Newton was #1 overall?

Isn't keenum getting a little old to play? I thought he was recruited to Houston the same year that Kolb was ... But seriously I am interested to see him play... if he can't take advantage of experience now then he never will be able to.

He got a medical redshirt because he blew out his knee in the first game of the year.

Right. But he is already 23 and this is his 6th year in the system is what I was saying.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/110505_nfl_draft_2012&sportCat=nflBy DJ Gallo The 2011 NFL draft is old news. It's time to project the 2012 draft. 1. New England Patriots Patriots fans have long wondered why Bill Belichick keeps stockpiling future draft picks for down the road instead of addressing immediate needs. Well, your wait is over, New England fans! Instead of trading down, the Patriots will trade their massive haul of 2012 picks to move up to No. 1 overall, where they will take … strong-legged Rice punter Kyle Martens! Mysterious as ever, Mr. Belichick. 2. Indianapolis Colts The Colts, off the heels of a disastrous 1-15 2011 campaign owing to Peyton Manning's arrest and incarceration (there's not enough space to get into all the details here), are lucky enough to find their new franchise quarterback still available at the No. 2 spot: Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. 3. Cincinnati Bengals With Andy Dalton and A.J. Green coming off of their rookie season, South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery gives the Bengals another young offensive weapon to help them try to convince their fan base to believe that the future will be better, no really this time, just give us a few more years! 4. Washington Redskins Desperate for a quarterback, the Redskins reach and take Terrelle Pryor with the fourth pick in the draft. Higher-rated quarterbacks are available, but Dan Snyder falls in love with the Ohio State quarterback in pre-draft interviews after Pryor promises Snyder he can tattoo advertising on him to open up an additional revenue stream. Page 2 DJ Gallo and Mike Philbrick discuss athletes commenting on world events, Boise State's cheating, the accidental naked marathoner and The Donald's thoughts on 3-foot putts. More Podcasts » 5. Seattle Seahawks With Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst not working out, Pete Carroll has a chance to draft USC quarterback Matt Barkley. Instead, he will select San Diego State QB Ryan Lindley. At the last moment, Carroll will be spooked by Barkley, remembering that one of his last seasons with a USC quarterback was so unsuccessful that it resulted in zero wins. 6. Denver Broncos After a 15-minute delay at the draft due to a power outage from a passing thunderstorm, the Broncos will beef up their defensive line with North Carolina's Quinton Coples. 7. Arizona Cardinals Barkley's draft free fall continues when the Cardinals pass on him out of fear he might be like Matt Leinart. They take Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones instead. 8. Tennessee Titans The Titans take USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil to help protect Kerry Collins, who during the 2011 season was proven to still be the team's best long-term option at quarterback despite Jake Locker's arrival. 9. Jacksonville Jaguars With Blaine Gabbert still learning from the bench, the Jaguars select Virginia cornerback Chase Minnifield so Gabbert can throw against an elite corner in practice. 10. Baltimore Ravens The Ravens address their aging defense by selecting Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw in hopes of grooming him to be Ray Lewis' eventual replacement. Baltimore says it likes Upshaw's size, tackling ability and toughness, and hopes he can develop a pregame dance and a willingness to scream clichés. 11. Oakland Raiders Having long ignored traditional pre-draft scouting procedures, the Raiders decide to use the 2008 high school recruit rankings for their 2012 draft and select the best player still available: Miami's Arthur Brown. Unfortunately, Brown now plays for Kansas State after transferring, is only a junior and did not declare for the draft. 12. San Francisco 49ers (acquired via trade with Vikings) The 49ers and Vikings swap the 12th and 13th picks for the sole purpose of screwing with everyone who spends so much time doing mock drafts. Too bad for them: I project this. The 49ers take South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore. 13. Minnesota Vikings (acquired via trade with 49ers) The Vikings take BYU offensive tackle Matt Reynolds. Ha! I'm smarter than you, 49ers and Vikings! 14. Cleveland Browns The Browns seek to give Colt McCoy another weapon by taking Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd. Unfortunately, they say his name backward and instead draft Floyd Michael, a 54 year-old plumber from Wichita, Kan. 15. Miami Dolphins His drop ends. Matt Barkley is taken by the Dolphins. Miami scouts say they see Barkley as the "next Marino" because saying someone projects to be the "next Fiedler or Pennington is far too depressing." 16. Chicago Bears The Bears select Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin to protect quarterback Jay Cutler, who missed the entire 2011 season to rest the knee sprain he suffered in last year's NFC Championship Game. 17. Buffalo Bills Resolved to the fact they'll never beat Tom Brady, the Bills will take Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick in hopes he will one day help them beat Ryan Mallett. 18. Kansas City Chiefs Wanting to be just like the Patriots, as always, the Chiefs select a punter, Florida Atlantic's Mickey Groody. 19. New York Giants Following another late-season collapse, head coach Tom Coughlin was fired. New player-coach Tiki Barber takes Michigan State offensive tackle Mike Adams to block for him. 20. Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys select Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon to take the place of Dez Bryant, who is being indefinitely held by mall security over reports that Bryant did not pay for soda refills at the food court. 21. St. Louis Rams The Rams draft Chicago Cubs first baseman Albert Pujols in a desperate, last-ditch effort to keep him in St. Louis. 22. New York Jets With defensive-minded Rex Ryan fired as the team's head coach due to an incident at a carnival in December, the Jets go offense and take Texas A&M receiver Jeff Fuller. 23. Philadelphia Eagles The Eagles select Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins, intrigued by the idea of making him sit on the bench beside Kevin Kolb as they both watch their careers waste away. 24. Houston Texans The draft is briefly interrupted again when President Obama breaks in to announce the capture of the last remaining high-level al-Qaida target. Then the Texans select Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly. 25. San Diego Chargers As a drunken streaker runs across the stage, commissioner Roger Goodell announces San Diego's pick: North Carolina defensive end Donte Paige-Moss. 26. Los Angeles Matadors The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise selects Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o. 27. Cleveland Browns Using the pick they got from the Falcons in the Julio Jones trade in 2010, the Browns reach for Arkansas running back Ronnie Wingo Jr., the Razorbacks' third-leading rusher, who they hope can develop into the next Peyton Hillis. 28. New England Patriots The Patriots select another punter, Cal's Bryan Anger. They then trade Anger to the Chiefs for Jamaal Charles. Then they trade Charles for 25 picks in the 2015 through 2024 drafts. 29. Green Bay Packers The Packers select Oregon cornerback Cliff Harris for his coverage abilities and willingness to wear colors that are harsh on the eyes. 30. Pittsburgh Steelers Pittsburgh was rolling into the AFC Championship Game, but was upset by the Patriots when starting running back Rashard Mendenhall went AWOL right before kickoff upon reading on the Internet that the world will end in 2012. The Steelers replace him by selecting Alabama running back Trent Richardson. 31. Carolina Panthers (acquired in trade with Patriots) The Panthers select Florida quarterback John Brantley to compete with Jimmy Clausen and Cam Newton. 32. Detroit Lions With the final pick of the first round, the Lions bolster their roster by picking the highest-rated player available: Jerel Worthy, defensive tackle, Michigan State. They are picking last, of course, because they won Super Bowl XLVI on the momentum gained by their 2011 draft getting high marks from most draft analysts.

That's actually pretty funny.

Todd McShay's 2012 NFL Mock Draft by Bruce Raffel on May 6, 2011 10:00 AM EDT
The ink is barely dry on the 2011 NFL Draft and already the experts are predicting not only the order of finish next season but the 2012 NFL Draft as well. Take a look at ESPN Draft Expert Todd McShay's first go at it and check out who they have the Baltimore Ravens selecting and at what position next April.
The order below was determined by reversing NFL power rankings provided by Scouts Inc.'s Matt Williamson after the 2011 draft.
Cleveland Browns 2010 record: 5-11 | Needs: ROT, OLB, CB, OG, WR
Andrew Luck*, QB, Stanford Luck is a once-in-a-decade kind of talent with all the tools to be an elite NFL quarterback. He returned to Stanford for the 2011 season even though coach Jim Harbaugh moved to the NFL, and the team with the No. 1 overall pick in 2012 should trade its existing quarterback to draft Luck. He's that good. If not, the pick will be up for public auction.
Carolina Panthers 2010 Record: 2-14 | Needs: WR, DE, OLB, CB, RB
Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina Coples is a 6-foot-6, 255-pound end with great versatility. He explodes off the ball, is powerful and quick and was all over the field in 2010.
Washington Redskins 2010 record: 6-10 | Needs: QB, DL, ILB, WR, CB
Matt Barkley*, QB, USC Barkley came into his own in 2010, showing natural anticipation and more consistency. He also emerged as a strong leader.
Buffalo Bills 2010 record: 4-12 | Needs: QB, OLB, TE, LOT, S
Matt Kalil*, OT, USC Kalil is a 6-5, 295-pounder with great feet, and he is so strong at left tackle that 2011 first-round pick Tyron Smith stayed on the right side while at USC. Kalil's brother, Ryan Kalil, is the starting center for the Carolina Panthers.
Denver Broncos 2010 record: 4-12 | Needs: DT, MLB, QB, RB, CB
Jerel Worthy*, DT, Michigan State At 6-3 and 305 pounds, Worthy is an active tackle who can be disruptive in the backfield and flashes the ability to get to the quarterback. Arizona Cardinals 2010 record: 5-11 | Needs: QB, OT/G, OLB, S, TE
Donte Paige-Moss*, DE, North Carolina Another Tar Heels defensive lineman with NFL potential, Paige-Moss has the build and athleticism to play right defensive end in a 4-3 scheme or outside linebacker in a 3-4 like Arizona's. Seattle Seahawks 2010 record: 7-9 | Needs: NT, CB, WR, RB, S
Alshon Jeffery*, WR, South Carolina I'll be interested to see how Jeffery runs and to study more tape on his route-running, but he passes the eyeball test with flying colors and has delivered clutch performances in big games during his short career. Tennessee Titans 2010 record: 6-10 | Needs: OG, CB, DT, ILB, DE
Jayron Hosley*, CB, Virginia Tech Hosley is an underrated cover corner with good ball skills. Oakland Raiders 2010 record: 8-8 | FS, QB, TE, WR, OT
Jonathan Martin*, OT, Stanford Martin is technically sound, and at 6-6 and 305 pounds, he can continue to improve his feet and strength. He is a two-year starter entering his junior season. Cincinnati Bengals 2010 record: 4-12 | Needs: CB, DT, RB, SS, PK
Janoris Jenkins, CB, Florida Jenkins' status is unknown after he was dismissed by Florida in late April following a second arrest on a charge of marijuana possession in a three-month span. He could elect for the 2011 supplemental draft, but at this point, he remains one of the top 2012 corner prospects. Watch his handling of 2010 first-round pick A.J. Green to see just how good Jenkins is. San Francisco 49ers 2010 record: 6-10 | Needs: DT, CB, DE, QB, PK
Dre Kirkpatrick*, CB, Alabama Kirkpatrick is yet another Nick Saban-coached defensive back on his way to the NFL. He needs to fill out his long frame but has the ability to become an effective press-man corner at the next level. St. Louis Rams 2010 record: 7-9 | Needs: OLB, DT, RB, OG, FS
Trent Richardson*, RB, Alabama Richardson has a rare combination of size, power and burst, and he piled up more than 1,800 yards of total offense the past two seasons while sharing time with 2011 first-round pick Mark Ingram. Minnesota Vikings 2010 record: 6-10 | FS, OT, DT, OLB, WR
Marcus Forston*, DT, Miami The Vikings weren't able to address their need for a full-time starter at defensive tackle in the 2011 draft, and heading into his junior season, the 6-3, 310-pound Forston has the size and strength to become an impact every-down starter in the NFL. Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 record: 8-8 | DE, OLB, MLB, FS, CB
Luke Kuechly*, LB, Boston College Kuechly is a high-motor, hardworking linebacker with good football tools and even better mental makeup. His instincts and tackling skills helped him pile up a ridiculous 183 total tackles in 2010. Miami Dolphins 2010 record: 7-9 | QB, FS, ILB, TE, DE
Landry Jones*, QB, Oklahoma It will be interesting to see how Chad Henne does behind an upgraded offensive line, and if he is unable to get the job done, Miami will be one of the quarterback-hungry teams entering the 2012 draft. We still need to study more film on Jones. Although he continues to improve and has prototypical size and the arm strength to make all the throws, to work his way up to this point, he needs to become more consistent in terms of footwork, accuracy and decision-making in 2011. Detroit Lions 2010 record: 6-10 | CB, WLB, SLB, OT, DE
Stephon Gilmore*, CB, South Carolina Depending on what the Lions do in free agency, corner still could be a need in next year's draft. Gilmore is a smooth, fluid athlete with good size and a chance to become one of the elite cover corners in the nation next season with better technique and recognition skills. Kansas City Chiefs 2010 record: 10-6 | ROT, ILB, TE, NT, LS
Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame Te'o has developed into a solid player and should emerge as one of the elite linebackers in the nation in 2011. He continues to improve his recognition skills and has the quickness and power you look for in a starting inside linebacker in the NFL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 record: 10-6 | Needs: CB, OLB, OT, RB, OG
Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina Brown is your prototypical weakside linebacker. He's slightly undersized with room to improve at the point of attack, but he is a smooth athlete who can flat-out fly all over the field. Chicago Bears 2010 record: 11-5 | Needs: WR, OLB, CB, ILB, C
Justin Blackmon*, WR, Oklahoma State The Bears remain in the market for a big wideout to complement their speedsters on the perimeter, Johnny Knox and Devin Hester. Anyone who saw Blackmon use his size and strength against Prince Amukamara last season knows he would be the right man for the job. Houston Texans 2010 record: 6-10 | Needs: FS, NT, OG/C, OT, ILB
Ray-Ray Armstrong*, S, Miami After loading up the defensive front this year, the Texans could be in the market for a playmaker in the secondary next year. Armstrong has steadily improved in the past two years and has been the No. 1 ball hawk for the Hurricanes. He would be a perfect fit for Wade Phillips' scheme, which puts as much pressure on its safeties as it does the corners in zone looks. Dallas Cowboys 2010 record: 6-10 | DE, S, CB, ILB, C
Cliff Harris*, CB, Oregon Harris has a lot of work to do as a corner, but few individuals in college football show more explosiveness and big-play ability than he does. Harris is also one of the most dangerous return men in the nation. San Diego Chargers 2010 record: 6-10 | Needs: OLB, ROT, NT, ILB, C
Vontaze Burfict*, LB, Arizona State Burfict is a work in progress and needs more game experience and coaching, but he is a physical specimen who can play sideline-to-sideline and blow plays up like no other linebacker in the country. New York Giants 2010 record: 10-6 | Needs: OLB, MLB, LOG/C, OT, TE
Keenan Robinson, LB, Texas Robinson is maybe the most underrated defensive prospect in the nation. He constantly jumped out during film study on other players last year, doing a great job of getting off blocks and showing good closing burst in pursuit. Philadelphia Eagles 2010 record: 10-6 | Needs: CB, OLB, ROT, TE, DL
Travis Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma Lewis is a quicker-than-fast weakside linebacker and one of the most productive in the nation the past two years. I'll be interested to see after studying film how much of that is due to the scheme and how much is due to his tools, but he does appear to have the closing burst to contribute in the NFL. New York Jets 2010 record: 11-5 | OLB, OT/G, S, TE, WR
Brandon Jenkins*, DE, Florida State Jenkins is a throwback Florida State pass-rusher with the frame (6-3, 234) to fit nicely on the outside in a 3-4 scheme like New York's. His 13.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2010 were the most on a team that led nation with 48 sacks. Cleveland Browns (from ATL) 2010 record: 5-11 | Needs: ROT, OLB, OG, WR
Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State Adams is 6-7 with a lean frame and needs to add bulk. Although he's not as athletic as 2010 first-rounder Nate Solder, he has similar potential to make a big move as a senior. Baltimore Ravens 2010 record: 12-4 | Needs: S, ILB, DE, OLB, RB
Robert Lester*, S, Alabama The 6-2, 215-pound Lester made big strides as a sophomore and has good straight-line speed to go with natural playmaking instincts, all of which could put him into the early rounds in 2012. New England Patriots (from NOR) 2010 record: 14-2 | Needs: OLB, DE, WR, FS, C
Andre Branch, DE, Clemson Branch is a 4-3 end at Clemson, but at 6-4 and 255 pounds, he continued to jump out as we studied 2010 tape of former Tigers DE Da'Quan Bowers. Branch has the look of the kind of 3-4 outside linebacker the Patriots like. Indianapolis Colts 2010 record: 10-6 | Needs: WR, SS, CB, OLB, RB
Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M Fuller broke out as a playmaker in 2010 and should only get better in his second year with QB Ryan Tannehillin 2011. Fuller has the size (6-4, 215), ball skills and playmaking ability to transition nicely to the NFL. Pittsburgh Steelers 2010 record: 12-4 | Needs: NT, CB, WR, TE, OG
Kelechi Osemele, OL, Iowa State A versatile prospect, Osemele (6-4, 325) starts at left tackle for Iowa State and is arguably the best overall player for the Cyclones. He could potentially play guard or right tackle in the NFL. New England 2010 record: 14-2 | Needs: OLB, DE, WR, FS, C
Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska Crick is a limited athlete but has the size, strength and toughness to become a starting 5-technique in a base 3-4 front. Green Bay Packers 2010 record: 10-6 | Needs: DE, OLB, OG, CB, RS
Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia Minnifield stepped up when 2010 draftee Ras-I Dowling missed significant time. Although Minnifield needs to add bulk, he shows the instincts and overall tools to become an NFL starter.

well, if we do end up with the first pick, then the Colt experiment would likely be a failure and we would need a QB.
I'd be more concerned with the 2nd pick. I want Frank's kid on our team.

I don't think it matters where we finish if colt sucks.
If we have to, holmgren and heckertt will package a deal to get Luck or Barkley.

Or Colt could get hurt in game 2.

well, then it would depend on the injury. if it was the shoulder again, then I would say we need a QB (durability matters of course)

the team with the No. 1 overall pick in 2012 should trade its existing quarterback to draft Luck. He's that good.
If you already have the 1 pick, why do you need to trade anyone to get Luck? Am I missing something here?

Maybe he means that any of the teams in that situation should trade away whoever they have at QB now to immediately open up the job for Luck.

That list is just another reminder that Andre Luck is only a junior and could go back to school again.

If we are picking around 15, and Colt has a good year and looks promising, I would trade the #1 pick for the farm. Someone would give it up to because Luck has been hyped to no end, and probably deserves it.

If we have the #1 overall, I'm picking Luck anyway .... unless McCoy has some ungodly incredible year like 40 TD and 2 INT. We need talent, and moreover, we need great talent at QB. If McCoy is "pretty good", and we have a shot at a great player, then we take the great player ... especially at the position that drives an NFL team. It's hard to have too much talent there. Usually it's that we've had too much overrated talent there for us.

So Ytown - let's say Colt's stat line looks something along the lines of 28 td's and 12 interceptions for 3500 yrds and the Browns finish 11-5 making the playoffs winning the wildcard game then losing in round 2 of the playoffs. Overly optimistic? Yes but who expected to see what the tribe has been doing this year?
Meanwhile Matt Ryan gets knocked out for the year in game 1 and the Falcons end up with the #1 overall draft pick in 2012.
Do you draft Andrew Luck then?
Don't blame the clown for acting like a clown. Ask yourself why you keep going to the circus.
