Depends on what we have to give up...
Now who do we pick @ #4? Seems like it's going to be Irving @ #1 and Kanter @ #4.
Cleveland Browns, Space Browns

The Cavs have improved instantly. This makes losing LeQuit that much more easier to take.

Honestly, I hope Enes Kanter slips to #4 ... although as a big man he'll probably go higher.
I was just thinking the same thing
also - can someone explain to me the trade exeption thing? I know we got it with the loss of LBJ but don't really understand what it is/means

Reports at the time were that Detroit wanted to unload Rip Hamilton for the trade exception and their lottery pick (can't remember if it was protected or not) ... from what I remember it was a done deal, but Rip invoked his no-trade clause to nix the deal for some reason.

It's like an expiring contract with no player involved. It's basically just instant cap-space for a team looking to trade away a bloated contract.

I would too, but I'm not sure that'll be enough to get the deal done. Who/What else do we give up to make Philly do that deal?

It's basically a player with a $14 million salary, only without the player. Since trades in the NBA must match in salary within a certain percentage, we can trade the exemption to another team for a player or players with total salary of $14 million +/-. The team gives up players in exchange for cap relief.

basically a big chunk of money. but not like you just pocket it dolan-style, it can be used to fit a trade that might be a bit lopsided. it also has something to do with being under the cap, i am sure someone on here can give you a better definition.

Can somebody explain how they knew the Clips pick was a top 3 pick when then didn't see their name at #8?

So... I'm jut sayin'... Minny still (somehow) needs a PG. Utah traded away theirs. Is this a possibility? 1) Irving 2) Knight 3) Walker 4) Williams

Sort of explained ad nauseum above.
Basically three teams win the lottery and picks 4-14 go in order of finish. So if there's a jump in the order as they're counting down, that means the team that got jumped won one of the lottery (top 3) picks.

Because only the top 3 picks are lottery. If a team doesn't get picked where its odds were it means its in the top 3. The odds said Cavs should have picked 8th. When they didn't show up at 8 you knew the pick had to be top 3 cause the top 3 picks are the only ones which are actually truly a lottery. After 3 it goes by regular season schedule.

the way it is set up, each lotto team has a chance at the top 3, outside of that teams from #8 and back can't get into the 4-7 slots.
so basically once we knew the clippers weren't 8, 9, 10, or 11, we know they were gonna be top 3.

Because all of the teams after the Clips picked at their slotted spots. A team can't pick lower than its slotted spot unless it wins a top 3 pick.

Thanks guys - think I understand it a little better... I also heard that it expires (not sure if that means we have to use it this year).
Like I said earlier, I don't follow basketball as much as football (and baseball really) so I don't understand a lot of the rules... just loving on the Cavs right now!
Hope this puts us in a good position over the next few years... this was a tough winter to stomach.

That was one of the coolest scenes. Dan Gilbert and his family, Bernie Kosar, Josh Cribbs, and Joe Haden representing our city at the draft lottery. - I loved it.

They also got Derek Favors which makes team hard to mock. Derek Williams if they think could play SF would be perfect for that team.

To add on to the trade exception explanations ... I THINK you can also break it up a bit. So you can use a portion of it to even out one trade here, and another portion to even out another.

good thing with all this is, this time around, we have the proper ownership AND management in place to handle this. I have 100% faith in chris grant and his people to do the right thing with this. 1&4 has only happened once.

I thought Minny's plan was to wait it out for Rubio? I think Knight at #2 would be a bit of a reach for them. Honestly I think they would go with Williams, as they have a need at SF, and Williams is almost the concensus #2 best player in this draft.
Unfortunatly, Utah needs a Center also, so I think Kanter goes #3 ... that leaves us with what's left over ... then again, this is David Kahn we're talking about picking #2, so there's always hope.

I know that Kyrie is the best player there is in the class. I know he should go number 1. But really what is a better combination for the future of the Cavs. Is the drop off from Kyrie Irving to Brandon Knight/Kemba Walker the same drop from Derek Williams to Jan Vesely or Enes Kanter (who you can't guarantee that will be there cause the Jazz are a wildcard). I can guarantee that Kemba Walker or Brandon Knight will be there at 4 most likely both will be. Derek Williams or Kyrie Irving is going number 2 then the Jazz can't pick both Knight and Walker. Then add into consideration they have Devin Harris so they probably aren't picking a PG at all. I hope the Cavs can make the right decision.

I don't think Utah can draft Kanter. I think there's a rule about having two massive Turkish dudes on the same roster.

WOW.....amazing, amazing night for the Cavs. With Minny at #2 and no real need for Williams, I wonder if they would drop back to #4? I honestly don't think it's that far fetched. Minny has Beasley, Johnson and Webster at the 3. Love and Randolph at the 4. To take Williams wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. They need a Center, SG or PG but they are pretty solid at the 3 and 4. Cavs could trade the #4 and #32, possibly a future 2nd for that pick. Minny could then target Knight or Valanciunas at #4 and pick up a few extra assets. I think it makes sense for both teams, unless Minny just loves Williams. I am so pumped. Cavs get two top 4 picks this year and then have 2 #2's in a very deep draft (Miami's) next season. They are going to load up on young talent.

None of which are over 6'10 or a true center ... I would think they take Kanter. If Williams slips to them though, they could possibly pass for that other Euro Center. (forget his name)

Gilbert's son is actually 14. He suffers from some sort medical problem. He had a great one liner. I'll let someone else tell you about it.
