Positive sign: despite being 5-5 in their last 10 games, the Indians have opened a 6 game lead in the division.

Negative sign: injuries are starting to pile up, with now 3 starting pitchers having had arm problems and two veteran everyday players on the DL.

Positive sign: Choo might finally being pulling his head out of his posterior after looking like a disinterested and very mediocre player for most of the year so far. With Hafner and Sizemore out, the Indians desperately need Choo to be an offensive force.

Negative sign: Santana is getting beat up behind the plate. He takes more foul tip shots than any catcher I can recall. We need to keep him healthy for his bat. More Lou Marson and less Matt Laporta would not be a bad idea. Besides, Marson is a much better catcher than Santana.

After 42 games, with a 27-15 record, the Indians need to go 63-57 (.525) over the remainder of the season (120 games) to win 90. Its do-able if they can get healthy.

Might not be the end of the world ..... except maybe for the Reds and their fans.

Go Tribe!

That's the 1st 2 of the series to the good guys.

Another close game. Coolest interleague rivalry outside of Mets/Yanks.

I'm looking forward to the Pirates series so the Indians can open up a can of whoop ass on them.

Why would a Yankees fan have any interest in an Indians/Pirates series?

We don't see the Indians often; yesterday saw the two-out homer to win. I am stuck nearishly to Cincitucky, and the crying down here after 2nd straight loss to the Tribe was deafening. Our paper gives minimal coverage, the TV none to speak of. So I hope we stay in first or near so I see them more often, and also it shuts up the Ruts fans. Hope the Tribe is like their Trail of Tears for Ohio competition this year.

I'm just curious when a team becomes "real" as far as the national blithering idiots are concerned? lol

We're now just over 1/4 of the way into the season. During that time, the Indians have held the best record in baseball most of the time.

They have now lost 3 starting pitchers to injuries. 1 is back (Carasco) and one will likely return in time for Alex Smith's turn in the rotation. (Talbot .... a personal favorite of mine)

The blithering idiots act like the Indians pitching is some grand mirage ... and like these guys suckes last year. Well, they didn't. They were damn good in the 2nd half of last season when the light appeared to come on for some of the youngsters. It didn't translate to wins at that time ..... but these guys were doing a quality job pitching after last year's All Star break.

At this point, the Indians are 5th in the Majors in pitching. 3 of the teams ahead of us are NL teams who get to face a pitcher rather than a professional hitter in the DH role. The other team is Oakland ..... and they have a scary, disgustingly good rotation and bullpen.

Then we look at the fact that we've only had Grady Sizemore for 18 of our 43 games so far this season. He came in and made an impact ..... but he hasn't been the key. Choo and Santana, our 2 "big guns" haven't really turned it on yet at the plate yet. However, both are part of the contingent of 7 players on the Indians who have 20 or more RBI. The Indians are the only team in the Majors, as far as I know, that has 7 guys with 20 or more RBI at this point in the season. The Indians are 4th in runs scored in the Majors ..... and 2 of the teams they trail, the Reds and Cardinals, have played 3 or 4 more games than they have.

Oh ... and the Indians are 3rd in defense as well. They have made 20 errors .... and IIRC, 7 of those came in 2 games. That's not great .... but it's better than spreading them out to hurt in a lot of games. They still managed to beat the Reds even with making 3 errors.

So .... when will do we become "real"? Losing 2 in a short series in Chicago certainly didn't help, but coming back to win the series against the Reds has to help. Almost every article I read has that "yeah but" tone to it ....... "Yeah, they're doing good ..... but ...... just wait ....."

So, when does a team become "real"? Personally, I thin that they are real ...... and really good to boot.

I doubt there is a lot of crying. People aren't near as concerned about the Tribe as the they are about divisional opponents. People were carrying on about the losses to the Pirates. I think you are just hearing what you want to hear. Losing to the Indians isn't going to shut anybody up about the Reds, it's not that big. It never shut up Indians fans when they lost to the Reds in the past, why should it?

People expected to have problems in Cleveland, the Indians have a fantastic record at home.

I think most Reds fans know that this team has a fair amount of issues at this point, and although they are fun to watch, if they don't improve in some areas they are going to have problems winning this division.

Also, this isn't the Smack Shack, so take your name calling there.

Hope the good guy Reds win today!!

What are we going to do with Volquez?

Welsh said numerous times that Volquez looked like he didn't want to be out there today. I don't want the guy out there if that's the case. It's getting to the point where I'd rather go with Leake instead of him.

4 in Philly, followed by 3 in Atlanta. This road trip can't end soon enough.

Edit: Congrats on the sweep Tribe fans, we'll get ya next time around.

I would hate to be a team needing a win in Cleveland right now. The Indians are really, really, really tough to beat at home. 18-4 at home .... with 2 of those losses being the 1st 2 games of the year is just amazing.

I agree.

Too bad on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with the best record in baseball, against a good in state team from the other league, the stadium was at best half full.

This Dolan crap gets old.

You better start supporting the team by buying tickets.

Oh...that was a general comment not directed at YTBF since he is in Youngstown, 70 miles away. It was more to those inside 40 or so miles.

What are you talking about? It was a nice crowd today. Had over 30k on Friday and sold out yesterday. The crowds are fine and will be even better once school is out.

Even in 2007 the Indians didn't start drawing crowds until after the NBA Finals were over. At least this time we don't have that to worry about.

Loved the sweep.

they said on the broadcast that there were about 27k in attendance.

anyone who thinks that this place should be 41k every single night, probably doesn't know how baseball works.

People are enjoying the Indians, they are watching on TV (ratings are up on STO huge) but I think they don't want to get too attached to this club. They still realize that eventually players you come to like, buy jerseys of, and just overall enjoy to watch could be shipped out.

I think Tribe fans should go year to year with their support. If ownership is going to put a good ballclub on the field, show up. If they are going to ship off cy young award winners and all stars, well then spend your money elsewhere.

Not everyone sees it that way though.

27,000 is sad...I agree...

And I make multiple trips in a years time...Browns...Cavs...Indians...Bucks...

Maybe I'll do what others do...

Browns
Reds/Spankees or Red Sox
Lakers/Celtics/Bulls
Michigan

That's gosh damn SAD dude...

The CLEVELAND sports fan is apparently limited to a CLEVELAND born and bred...Of which I am...That just blows my mind and is exactly why REAL Cleveland fans blew James outta the water with a Yankee hat on...And Gibson can take a hike also...

U go Bernie...U go Haden...U go Cribbs...

First, attendance was just about 27000, that's way over half. Second, over 30k Friday and sold out last night, in this economy 27k is not bad.Last, how many tickets have you bought? Why not? Oh you have an excuse right? So your reason for not buying tix is more valid or important than anyone elses?

LOL yeah ... you have nooooo idea what you said over the past couple of years?

Stuff like:

"I would love love LOVE for the Indians financial statements to get leaked on the Internet. Cue the Dolan apologists who don't realize how clueless and inept they really are."

Ammo Rant

From the same thread:

"That doesn't even factor in how clueless the Dolans are. Forget their thriftiness. Their entire philosophy is totally messed up..."

"The Indians are a civic embarrassment. Period. "

Then this gem .......

"I miss Eric Wedge. This team has totally quit on Manny Acta. They're going through the motions.

For the love of God, sell the team Dolans. "

From Here ....

"The Indians hang their hats on the Colon trade and the 2007 season as measurements of "success." Give me a freaking break. No one's held accountable in that organization."

From this Link ..............

There's a saying out there that I fully believe as long as the Dolans own this team: Tribe Time Never.

And then the greatest of them all .... and the one that brought on people asking why you're excited about the Indians when you're a Yankee's fan ........

Ammo Linkeroo

We're the first organization ever to trade Cy Young winners in back to back years.

You know how I was a Yankees fan for awhile then came back? I'm really thinking about jumping ship again because this ownership SUCKS.

Your words, no one else's.

To the real Tribe fans: Congratulations, you have a very good team this year. I fully expected the Indians to start folding by now, but they haven't. They look good, enjoy the ride!

Still hoping for a sweep when you all come to GABP, I'd like to keep it even more years since you all have one the battle of Ohio, it has been a while!

No, not more important, but seeing as I live 600 miles away, more valid.

I have Browns season tickets and attend at least 5 games a year.

I would have Indians season tickets as well if it was possible to attend half the games.....no Dude....moving isn't a option.

Get off the high horse.

Are you still stuck on this? The fact that there are Browns fans who are fans of teams from other cities in other sports has nothing to do with bandwagon fans like Ammo. You can't possibly draw that connection...unless you are trying to make a point that you can't back up with any logical conclusions.

You hope for the Indians to sweep the Reds? That's awfully nice of you Jules. lol

I'll tell you why I didn't expect the Tribe to fold ......

No one player is doing anything ridiculously over his talent level.

Asdrubal Cabrera is about the closest with his newfound home run stroke ...... but there's a solid explaination for that. The pitching has continued a trend started last year. The defense is massively improved, but that's because of some personnel changes. The bullpen has simply continued its fine work of a season ago.

No one player is driving the offense. 7 different guys have 20+ RBI. 8 different guys have at least 4 HR. In an "ordinary" year, on the usual kind of team we have had in the past, having our 2 stars like Choo and Santana in the midgt of season long drughts would doom the offense. This year they don't have to do it all. When they come around, and there is every reason to expect that they will, then it's a bonus to, not the backbone of the offense.

The Indians have used their depth at AAA to overcome injuries. It's kinda funny how we brought up Carrera from AAA and he wins a game with a squeeze bunt. We bring up Buck and he wins a game with a 2 run HR. We plug in young pitchers and they carry right along with the solid pitching trend.

I am so excited about this team. It's a bunch of really good players playing well together as a team. That really is what I love to see out of any of my favorite teams.

It's also funny how in the last few years when the Indians played the Reds you would show up talking smack before the first game and NEVER return to the thread when the Indians would lose. Never had the courage to take your lumps like some of us.

You said it though.

You.

No one else.

If you're looking to blame someone, take a hard look at the man in the mirror.

Maybe it would be easier for you to go hang out at a different board where they haven't had to watch you spew the same crap over the course of the past couple of years only to now act like Paul on the road to Damascus. (Minus the repentance, of course) Heck, if you were to repent and say "Hey, I was wrong, and these guys are doing a great job", then someone might take you seriously. But for you to act like you've been a staunch supporter of this team ...... defending moves made, and backing the jobs done by front office and manager types alike is ridiculous at best, and a lie at worst. You lambasted this team, and every move and hire they have made, for the better part of 3 years. You have left, or threatened to leave to be a Yankees fan at least twice that I can remember.

If you can't stand people calling you on your BS, then you shouldn't post ...... because you've established yourself as the kind of guy who will conveniently forget everything you've ever said if circumstances change. You will get your own crap thrown back in your face when you act like that.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
