From the Washington Post, Palin readies East Coast tour amid presidential speculation, sending liberals into fits of rage.

If you thought the GOP presidential candidates were less than spectacular, it seems that it might get a lot more interesting.

I pray for the day that Sarah Palin is put in front of a microphone, asked unscripted questions and has to give coherent answers.

The Palin ship has sailed people. If the right (or anyone for that matter) thinks this moron is the answer, then God help us all.

I, um, you know, um can't, uh, you know, wait until, uhhh, they do this, you know, to our current, ummm, President.

I'm no fan of Palin, but Obama is horrible when he doesn't have a teleprompter.

Actually it could help a serious candidate. Liberals loathe Palin, they have such hatred for her that that'd focus entirely on her, while a serious candidate could fly under the radar.

Oh, but Palin reads every newspaper known to mankind!!

She reads all of them in the morning with her coffee. I wonder how she feels about some of the local issues in my town - she knows about them since she reads the local newspaper.

Don't believe me? She said so herself. She reads EVERY newspaper.

Man I wish Christie would get into the race.

I like his politics, and I think that he would wipe the floor with Obama in debates.

I might actually vote for Obama if she is our nominee. I disagree with Obama on 99% of his point of view but at least he thinks through his positions.

If she is the best the GOP has to offer, we deserve to lose.

I just don't see her having the decision-making abilities to be our President. And I agree with her on almost every one of her political positions.

Your point however is well taken. you could be right. I heard one report, I think while channel surfing, I ran across MSNBC and one of thier pundits made a comment that this might be good for Romney.. She'll take the flack and he'll slide in under the radar.

You may be right.

same thing Ochocinco has done. she's the 'celebrity' candidate. she ran for VP (no issues), but once that was done she quit her job, wrote a book, started a reality show, and is going on nationwide campaign tours.

in this day and age, if you beg for a ton of attention, you will get it (though much of it may be bad).

I have no issues with her politics and believe she gets a bad rap on some things, but that is a rap that she sort of embraces at the same time. Also, I doubt she sees herself as a serious contender for the 2012 race, but I think she runs.

Sarah Palin is a gimmick candidate. She is the repub answer to successful female democratic candidates.

The Donkeys have HRC, and the Elephants have Palin. The difference is that HRC isn't just a female, she was a first lady, she was a senator, she is a household name and she actually has some clout.

Palin is widely viewed as an idiot, and her governorship in Alaska hardly served her as she attempted to jump into the national spotlight. Most people dismissed her position in Alaska as meaningless. I mean, most people are totally oblivious about Alaska. At best, they know is a cold, barren place dotted with a few outposts of civilization; and at worst they associate it with igloo's, Eskimo's, and natives surviving on whale blubber.

Personally, I can't stand Hillary, or Palin. But Palin strikes me as someone who was thrust upon the States as the Republican party had to find a female candidate to market to a populous who is growing tired of the stereotypical rich white dude as leader of the free world.

And IMO, plastering Palins mug up everywhere was a desperate move. She has left me less than impressed most of the time; and sometimes she says some things that are downright scary.

I don't understand why anyone takes her candidacy seriously.

I agree ... really lost respect for her when she said she had to quit the Governor's job for family reasons, and then turns around and goes on a national tour. She just comes across as a media whore ... for lack of a better term.

What hasn't she done is the question.

I think she is genuine enough, her reality show was a bit of a hoot but for a former beauty queen used to people ogling at her she is all about the show and very little substance beneath the surface. I have yet to hear her say ANYTHING remotely thought provoking or logically sound. It's all broad ambiguous phrasing.

Think about the comedy that has surrounded her due to either poor judgment or lack of depth.

There was her resignation from the Governors office because of ticky tack ethics complaints. Her argument was she wanted to spare the citizens their dime in defending her. How convenient. When the going got a little tough she bolted.

There was her rambling incoherent resignation speech.
There was her interview in front of a chicken getting slaughtered.
There was her co-opting the Gabreille Giffords shooting that somehow she and those on the right wing were "victims." Irregardless of the baseless accusations coming from the left she poorly chose her words. Blood libel???

There was her interview with Katie Couric on reading periodicals, her insistence that she has foreign policy credentials because of Alaska's proximity to her state. That's a laugh. Every time I go to Ashtabula I must consider myself an Ambassador to Canada.

She did an interview . . . I think CBS . . . where her response was talking points just key phrases surrounded by babble when talking about health care and job creation and trade. (in her defense though, they were someone elses talking points not her own and she has now had three years to practice them)

She is political klutz looking for attention and attention only. She lacks the gravitas to assume the duties of the presidency. For someone who quit the governorship because things may get a little "personal" or difficult is telling.

I don't hate or dislike her as a person but I can't take her serious, politically.

If it came down between her and Obama . . . God help us.

Well for one, she's an idiot, and on top of that she plays that up to a degree - she draws but also actively attempts to appeal to the anti-intellectual crowd.

That riles a lot of folks up.

No, I can think of a list of reasons to not vote for her for president.. I just can't think of why I would actually dislike her.

I don't dislike Obama, heck I don't dislike Bill Clinton. In fact I think both of them would be great to play a round of golf and have a beer with.. I just disagree with their politics and their handling of the presidency..

I'm not making this a huge point, I just think this one area where we get wrapped around the axle... when we take a person with whom we have differences of opinion and we make it personal into a like/dislike thing..

Sarah Palin is who she is and I believe she has accomplished quite a bit in her life worthy of respect. I will say for about the 4th time, I don't think is presidential material though..

I don't think she has a snow balls chance in hell of being elected.

However, I don't see her as a blathering idiot also. What I do recall is that, in the eyes of the Alaskan's she did such a good job as a mayor that they promoted her to governor. They actually liked her simple, honest responses to the issues and how she solved the problems in her home town. Hmmm, what a concept. That is what I remember. Don't ask for specifics because I don't have the time, or desire, or care to look them up.

From the responses in this thread, and in my workplace, her integrity has been successfully smeared and called into question so that the majority of people in this country have a negative opinion of her. Whether or not the woman has a brain, and I think she must as she is successfully using the system for her own benefit, is inconsequential at this point. She is perceived as another gimmick candidate and will never be taken seriously.

She doesn't have a chance.

Neither does Romney, the Mass. health care fiasco will be his undoing.

As much as it displeases me, Obama must be laughing his ass off at the GOP!

Michelle Bauckman (sp) I think would have a better chance than either of them.

Now, I'm sure that Obama reads everything. I'm sure he's got a copy of LeMonde (French edition) in his hands right now, soaking it all up. If he had, his foreign policy might be better than it is. If he picked up the Financial Times, his economic policies might make a lick of sense. But I digress.

The problem with Palin being on a ticket is that she has so far to go to make her positives outweigh her (perceived and real) negatives.

Her at the top of the ticket would be like running Dan Quayle. They each have perceived intelligence deficiencies, and any misspeak or mistake will be amplified and exaggerated by the media. This will cause those who don't pay close attention to immediately disregard her as a serious candidate.

People say that they don't want "lifelong" politicians as their leaders .... but you get faux pax and mis-speak from those who haven't rehearsed their rhetoric for years and years. People want "new" and "perfect" all at the same time .... and it rarely works that way.

I think it's more than obvious that the GOP is languishing about putting forth another "It's his turn" candidate (Mitt Romney) knowing that it's a sure loser if they do. But, the powers-that-be view Palin as a liability candidate and would probably actively attack her. Even if she were to win the GOP nomination, the Republicans big-wigs would mostly look to turn voters away from her, ensuring her defeat in the general election. If she wins, however, and the GOP big-wigs actively back her and support her, she (and the GOP) could win big!

I have no faith in the GOP to do anything but work against her and ensure their own demise.

We? I'm not a member of the GOP, but look at the offerings from the GOP since the 1988 run. Bush the Elder, Bob Dole, Bush the Younger, John McCain. How much more pathetic can you get? Well, we know. The Democrats nominated Al Gore and John Kerry. The did even worse with Obama (in a practical sense) but won anyway because McCain was such a poor choice.

But, since your statement indicates that you're GOP, who is your candidate of choice at this time? I'm just curious.

It's indicative of the times we live in, DC. I seriously believe that people are incapable of actually thinking for themselves. They're herded like cattle and told to vote for this candidate or that candidate by the talking heads. It's so much easier to do that than to actually think for oneself.

I know I'm not going to be popular by saying this but I'm not sure that America deserves to survive what faces it. The people are too lazy (or just incapable) to care.

As bad as the recent movie rendition for Atlas Shrugged is, you can see the storyline playing out in America today. Not the fanciful stuff like a motor capable of drawing energy out of the atmosphere or a machine that shields a mountain valley from view. Rather, the overall plot of the story about the quality of products (although, they come from China) and the "people's republics" in Europe needing bailing out, to government-funded projects that do nothing useful. The general mood of decline in this country as portrayed in the book can be seen everywhere in today's American society.

I know the guy that bought Alaska's jet when she became Gov there. Heard horror stories about her mental capacity that scares me.

I liked Huck - socially and his tax plan (for the most part). The Pizza guy seems okay. We got to get someone in there that isn't status quo on debt, medicare and social security. Anyone who can tout quality ideas for reform on those three, I really don't care their stance on abortion or how many wives they've had (and I normally vote both on economic and social issues to the right).

You are right that as a country it's pretty much been picking the least amount of stink on a candidate for the least 20 years.

One thing that isn't being said is that Obama has a really good chance of being re-elected even if Reagan were to come back to life.

I just dislike Palin. I don't think she's genuine and has a good head on her shoulders. I don't like that she resigned her job early. I don't like that she is pretty much what Kerry was - the mouthpiece of how the incumbent sucks over any substantive ideas. I'd probably vote for Bush over her if it were possible.

Someone mentioned that Palin is just the answer to the Dem's successful previous woman candidates and that side hasn't touted a female VP or President yet either. Hillary doesn't count - she couldn't even win after a 2-term Republican left office with a tanking economy, war issues and other problems riding the coattails of her her husband's perceived success.

There really hasn't been a good female candidate on either side.

They saddled her with lawsuits (which had to be fought) and consumed her time. She couldn't do her job as governor effectively so she resigned from the job.

I guess you could call Urban Meyer a quitter too. (Urban Meyer resigns from Florida)

How about Jerry Sloan? Another quitter. (Jerry Sloan resigns as coach of the Utah Jazz)

She was offered a opportunity for a reality show and she took it. So what? She needed a job and that was as good as any and allowed her flexibility to do that and other things too.

I have no issues with her politics and believe she gets a bad rap on some things...

For some reason, I don't believe you're being completely honest.

...but that is a rap that she sort of embraces at the same time.

She seeks the attention because she has a message that she thinks needs to be heard. I don't blame her or fault her one bit for that.

Also, I doubt she sees herself as a serious contender for the 2012 race, but I think she runs.

I think she see herself as a serious contender (and the polls bear that out - RCP link) as she runs barely behind Romney.

I agree ... really lost respect for her when she said she had to quit the Governor's job for family reasons, and then turns around and goes on a national tour. She just comes across as a media whore ... for lack of a better term.

She didn't resign citing "family reasons". She resigned because she couldn't do her job as governor. I guess that you don't take her word for the reasons why she stepped down? It's not difficult to find her full resignation speech on the web. Maybe you should listen to it again (or for the first time) and make up your own mind.

It really bothers me that Americans have become so lazy so as to let others make up our minds for us, especially those in the media. It truly is incredible. We all know that media talking heads don't have an agenda to push, don't we? Ain't that right, Winston Smith?

It truly is remarkable how little Americans care to be informed and never question anything blared on our TV sets or over the radio.

May God help us and may He have mercy on our souls.
