Oh come on, everybody KNOWS it was the supporting cast that sucked. Durant and Westbrook just need to move to a bigger city to fix that.

what are the 76ers thinking?

of all the Lakers that just love to be in LA more than anything else, I would put Odom (married to a kardashian, has a reality show) and Artest (several TV projects) at the top of the list.

they will be miserable in Philly and both players are the sort that will show it (Odom by not caring on the court...Artest, well I won't even guess on him)

Quote:

The 76ers are continuing to explore trade options for Andre Iguodala, and league sources said that a deal with the Lakers involving Lamar Odom has been discussed recently.

While it's unclear whether the deal has real potential or is still alive, it's yet another sign that the Sixers are determined to land an impact player while improving their salary-cap situation in any trade for their second-leading scorer and top defender. Iguodala is owed a combined $44 million for the next three seasons (including $13.5 million next season), while Odom is set to make $8.9 million next season in the final guaranteed year of his contract.

The deal would have to include another Lakers player in order to work under salary-cap rules. One of the sources said the Lakers might include small forward Ron Artest, who will be paid $21.7 million over the next three seasons and has an early-termination option for 2013-14.

Iguodala is in play for Minnesota as well, according to a rival general manager who called the possibility of the Sixers acquiring the No. 2 pick in a package for their 27-year-old swingman "definitely real." The Timberwolves have been seeking a high-level veteran in exchange for the second selection in Thursday's draft and other pieces.

As for another oft-cited Iguodala scenario, a source close to the situation said talks between Philadelphia and Golden State regarding Warriors shooting guard Monta Ellis have been quiet for weeks.

when that BS could very conceivably affect the play of that talent; they should be concerned.

oh, and I know it'll never happen (because of the acrimony between the teams along with a million other factors), but my favorite stuff floating out there right now is Orlando trading Dwight Howard to Miami for LeBron.

i would instantly become a Heat fan for next season only. if the Heat could win a title with Wade/Dwight/Bosh after failing with Wade/LeBron/Bosh it woudl be hilarious (and really Dwight fits the needs for their team more than LeBron because he would make Bosh better and allow Wade to create).

plus, it would put LeBron right back into the situation he was in here (1star team with a capped out roster).

If the Lakers can get out of that Artest contract I would be amazed. And replacing him with Iguodala? That's even better. They would definitely miss Odom's versatility but he's so inconsistent I don't know if it's that big of a deal.

Riley would never make that trade because he built this "big 3" and will go down with the ship, but it would make them a better team with Dwight. I would do it in a heartbeat. Same with Orlando too.

That would be funny though, lepuke traded to a nothing team after being the centerpiece of this whole fiasco.

Honestly, that might make sense for both teams. Orlando gets to ship out their unhappy franchise player, who wants out anyway, and gets someone in return who will fill seats, and wants to be an alpha dog ... and is a better value than just about every other trade scenerio out there. Miami, gets a force in the middle that they've been lacking, and solves their duel-alpha dog problem. Even the salaries match up pretty well. But dear gawd, Miami would be a wrecking ball for years.

But he's not blowing up the Big-3, he would be swapping one out for another, and creating a "better 3". I really doubt he'd let his "ego" get in the way of that one ... it's not like he drafted these three, he just picked up the best three free agents.

I think the only sticking point would be Lebron having a no-trade clause, which would seem likely. I just can't see Lebron signing off on that deal ... unless of course Wade ticked him off by chewing him out in the finals and that's the reason he mentally checked out for the last 3 games. In which case, everyone should be happy with that deal.

miami would be disgusting with d12 in and lbj out.

Nothing against lbj or his game, but the theory a lot of us had right after the decision came true: lebron and wade are both great, but there's only one ball and they both need it to operate at their best.

with d12, wade can be the primary perimeter guy, dwight gives you defense around the rim, inside game, rebounding, and bosh has that outside, mid-range game for a 4. It'd be literally unstoppable. Depth is the only issue, but if they could get the finals with the team they had this year, they'd be more than ok.

As far as lbj going to orlando, LOL. Welcome to Cleveland South, buddy. It's the same thing, you trade Cedar Point for Disney. LOL

OK ... question ......

If Philly were interested in him, could we trade Jamison and our trade exemption for Iguadola? Or, do they have other bad deals that they would want to add into a deal that we could take off their hands?

elton brand?

I'm not a huge AI guy, but I love his athelticism and defense and I think he'd be a near perfect partner in the backcourt for Irving.

My thing with him was that he played like he was a 30pt scorer, taking bad shots, he's not kobe or durant. He should be a 15 pt scorer that locks down on defense, and has a high rebounding average for a guard. If you have a legit pg running the offense, you can turn him into that.

Pretty much summed it up perfectly. I think I could play starting point on that team, and they'd win championships. Losing Lebron would solve all their alpha-dog/crunch time scorer issues, and gaining Dwight would fix all the short-comings they had in the middle. Everyone would have a role, and know what to do. That team would be scary good.

I think he played like that because he HAD to. Who else was going to take the scoring load? Iggy would of been great for us 2 years ago, but now I'm not so sure. We're not really going to be competing for another year or so, so it just seems like a waste of a veteran.

and think about the pressure that comes off dwight howard. it would be really hard to double him with bosh around, as well as chalmers who has proven he can hit big shots. as well as wade running around.

i know a lot of us would love to see lbj sent to a team that gives him zero chance at winning, but that heat team would make me throw up, there'd be no point for us to even have a team. If I were the Cavs, I'd literally trade all my resources, draft picks, etc.. away for future picks in 2020

Ha ha ha...the rest of the Eastern Conference would only have hope that one of those guys would get injured. Outside of that, NOBODY would have a chance.

The more I think of it, the more it sounds like a good deal for both teams. Again, I think Riley would want to save face even if it meant having a better team. And like someone said, lefraud probably has a no-trade clause.

nope. LeBron is not eligible for a no-trade clause. in the NBA only Kobe Bryant has one. you have to have 8yrs of service time and 4yrs with the same team when you sign your contract to be eligible. so, Wade can't even have a no-trade clause in his contract.

Even if he didn't remember he has an early termination clause that could get him out after 2 more years. He could then go and play wherever he wanted.

Still it'd be funny for some to watch him have to swallow his pride playing in the same state as the best team in the league.

Man, it would be just like Cleveland! He'd have a coach who at times look like he has no idea what he's doing, a gun-toting teammate...

the ETO buys Orlando time though. 1 year to "compete" with LeBron (who you would imagine would try to top all of Oscar's triple-double marks to 'prove' Riley wrong, but you never know with him)

also, even though Dwight is a much better fit for Miami as presently constructed, I think Orlando could get more in a trade using LeBron than it could for Dwight.

Even BIll Simmons mentioned this in his trades article:

Quote:

TRADE NO. 17: MIAMI trades LeBron James ($2 bill) and Joel Anthony (dime) to ORLANDO for Dwight Howard ($2 bill) and Ryan Anderson (quarter). Final tally: Miami ($2.25), Orlando ($2.10).

Dan LeBatard semi-jokingly suggested a LeBron/Howard swap on last week's BS Report that, of course, got my wheels started churning. It would immediately be the biggest sports trade ever, explode Twitter, decimate the internet, and turn ESPN into a 24-hour Artest Melee. And you know what else? The deal actually makes sense on paper for Miami (Bosh and Howard complement each other perfectly, Wade becomes their crunch-time guy and they wouldn't have an alpha dog problem anymore) and Orlando (that's the best offer they will ever get for Howard, bar none). We'd also see a chastened LeBron either shift into full-fledged "I can't believe you traded me" Eff You Mode (capped off with his Stringer/Avon split with Wade) or start moping and making Vince Carter's last Toronto season look responsible and professional by comparison. With absolutely no in-between.

My take on something that's never happening anyway: You'd have to tweak the deal so that LeBron landed in a better situation. Which means …

TRADE NO. 18: MIAMI gets Dwight Howard ($2 bill) and Ryan Anderson (quarter); Orlando gets Pau Gasol (silver dollar), Lamar Odom (50-cent piece), and Ron Artest (dime); Los Angeles gets LeBron James ($2 bill) and Gilbert Arenas (minus-50 cents). Final tally: Miami ($2 out, $2.25 back), Orlando ($1.75 out, $1.60 back), Lakers ($1.60 out, $1.50 back).

One thought on something that, again, will never happen: We learn every June that the title comes down to protecting the six feet in front of the rim. Do you have a better chance of doing that with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh … or Howard, Wade, and Bosh? The latter, right? And if you don't think Pat Riley would betray LeBron, ask any Knicks fan if they ever thought Pat Riley would betray them from 1992 to 1996. (They're nodding right now.) All right, it's time to get serious about a Howard trade.

Seriously though, if Lebron really doesn't have a no-trade clause, what's stopping this deal? That's the best trade value Orlando could ever possibly get for Dwight, who wants out anyway, and Riley would contruct the most dominating team in the history of the NBA.

The Plain Dealer is reporting that the Bobcats (9, 19 in 1st round) are looking to trade up. Would you call them and offer the #4 if Williams and Kanter are gone?

I can tell Russell Westbrook is a chucker by using my eyes, but I'll back up what I see with some research (done by other people of course )

Article

Quote:

To reach the NBA Finals, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder needs to pass more, especially to his teammate Kevin Durant. That would be the message that two researchers would send to Thunder coach, Scott Brooks, if given the chance. Matt Goldman, a graduate student at the University of California, San Diego, and Justin Rao, a research scientist at Yahoo Labs recently named Westbrook as the biggest “chucker” in the NBA because of statistics showing that he shoots much more often than he should, while Durant is classified as an undershooter, whose team would benefit from him taking more chances...

...First, let’s do the numbers. Goldman and Rao dug into the NBA stats archive to analyze over 400,000 team possessions over the last four seasons, 2006-2010, across the entire league. In a paper and presentation at the recent MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, they presented a model that compares the difficulty of a shot taken in relation to the time remaining on the 24 second shot clock. Then they compare this with a concept called “allocative efficiency”, or the benefit of equally distributing the ball to any of the five players on the court and also “dynamic efficiency”, or deciding whether to “use” the possession by taking a shot or “continuing” the possession by making a pass. As the shot clock winds down, the marginal difficulty of a shot considered will need to rise or they risk getting no shot off before the 24 seconds expires, wasting the possession.

They found that most NBA players are very efficient in their shot selection. Surprisingly, several elite players are actually not shooting enough, according to their model. Here is the list of all NBA players analyzed and their score, where a negative number (at the top of the list) represent overshooters. Joining Westbrook at the top of the list were well-known names like Lamar Odom and Tracy McGrady. Even bigger names like LeBron James, Ray Allen, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Paul and Joe Johnson actually show up at the bottom of the list and may hurt their team with their unselfishness.

Its a very long List, so I will only include the twenty most and twenty least efficient and let anyone who wants to see the whole list click the link.

LeBron James 4.931574
Brandon Roy 5.127828
Chris Paul 5.341594

The full research paper can be found here if anyone wants it.

As for my comment about him being a locker room problem, as reported by CBS Sports:

Quote:

Did you think maybe we were finally done talking about Russell Westbrook? You'd be wrong.

Westbrook responded well to his so-called "benching" in Game 3, putting up 30 points for Oklahoma City that included eight straight points in the fourth quarter to get the Thunder back in the game. In the end, they lost to the Mavericks, but Westbrook bounced back strong.

Controvsery over? Hardly. Via the New York Daily News, one Thunder veteran says that Westbrook has an ego and that's what's interfered:

What undoubtedly fueled Westbrook's fiery response is a sense of entitlement. As one Thunder veteran said, privately, "He thinks he's better than Kevin Durant."

Not only that, but Westbrook has the backing of Thunder GM Sam Presti, who made a name for himself with his drafting of Westbrook with the fourth pick in 2008. Presti's micromanagement behind the scenes has caused some friction between the head of the front office and his coaches, but Brooks didn't pay any attention to that when he saw that Maynor was his best option to even the series.

I'm not arguing that Russel Westbrook doesn't have talent, he certainly does. My point is he doesn't have it between the ears.

No, I get that part.....but this is a growing team that needs to start their growing now. If Kanter grades out slightly worse....wouldn't he still be better than Jonas next year with a full year of NBA play under his belt. Jonas would have to play catch up.

If you assume each guy won't make a big impact until year two. That means Jonas won't do anything for two years while Kanter could be an impact player next year.

Sorry, I just don't see why. Maybe they grade them out so that Jonas is worlds better....but if it's close, I'd rather have the B- guy now, than a solid B guy a year later.

Because they think that he'll be a good starter down the road ...... he wll be one less young player to have to work into a very young team next year .... we can still hold down our win total somewhat for next year's draft that is absolutely loaded ....and in which we again have 3 picks ..... and we also have some assets to work with this year and next year.

We can definitely handle having a player stashed overseas for a year.

Bingo. If he's the next Paul Gasol (or even Marc Gasol) you take him and wait a year. It'll be worth it in the long run. As you said, it's not like the Cavs are going to win the championship next season (or any time soon).

If that's the case, then Kanter must suck now because he's had a year completely away from basketball. Jonas has at least been playing in the Euro-leagues ... which he would be doing again next year anyway. So it's not like he's going to be stored in a warehouse somewhere collecting dust. He's going to be getting some playing experience. If he has a higher ceiling, then it would be better in the long run.

Another note too ... from what I've read, the NBA situation is much worse than the NFL one. In the NFL, the owners were still making tons of money and just wanted to keep more of it, so it was really just a matter of who should get how much. The NBA situation is a bit different as owners are legitimatly losing money (and have opened the books to show it), so unless the players make some drastic concessions, it's more likely that the NBA misses a bit of the season. If that's the case, we'd have Jonas over in Europe actually playing, rather than Enes sitting at home going into year 2 of no playing at all.

In the end ... just take the player with the higher ceiling, and hope he gets there.

Have the Cavs completely given up "Williams at #1 + Knight at #4" instead of
"Irving + Jonas"?

It's not like we'd know this as fact....just wondering.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm actually hoping we take Kanter ... but if the scouting department has scouted out both Kanter and Jonas to the gills and think Jonas is the better prospect, then I'll defer to their wisdom.

Look at it this way; what if we lose a large part if not all of the season because of a lockout. Would you rather draft a guy (like Kanter whose already missed a year) and have him sit the whole year or draft a guy who plays and improves his game overseas while everyone else sits.

Just a thought

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Would be a bit risky ... everything I've seen has Utah taking Knight at #3. So we'd be left taking Kanter or Jonas again at #4, and a having glut of tweener forwards.

With Rubio in the fold, would Minnesota draft Irving at #2? If they pass, then Utah takes Irving or Knight leaving the Cavs one of them at #4.

Of course, Minnesota could trade their pick in the scenario and then Irving and Knight still roll at #2 and #3....but ya, sounds risky.

Here is my mock before I head to work:

Cavs take #1 Kyrie Irving, #4 Enis Kanter, then at #32 JaJuan Johnson or Tyler Honeycutt, then at #54 DeAndre Liggins
