I have been logging in (or rather I stay logged in) and over the last few days this problem occurs. Every time I log in I see the new threads in bold with the number of new posts in parenthesis ... but when I click on them I find that many of them are posts I have already read. Not sure why it's doing this and I'm on a private home computer as well.. so it's not public or anything.

Just curious.

Thanks guys.

Try clearing your cookies. (on your home page)

Sometimes a damaged cookie can cause weirdness on a board like this.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I did that after I read your post (deleting cookies). Then came back on and the first thing I noticed was the board said your post was new ... again

That's bizarre.

Are you logged in on a different computer at the same time?

Also, did you click on the "Feedback" link, then on the thread link, or did you click directly on the "Last Post" link on the main forum page?

I have noticed some weirdness similar to what you describe if I click on the last post link from the main forum page.

The tracking for what has been read and what hasn't is stored on the server, not in a cookie - this is so that it can "remember" across different machines. Something is obviously hosing up the tracking for you, though.

Go read everything you want to read, and when you are done, click this: Mark all Posts as Read and then click the link again in new page.

After that, hopefully it will begin tracking correctly again.

Gotcha.

I'll keep monitoring it. I did end up having some problems with my internet connection over the past 24 hours, that could have been related.

thanks though guys!

On the original board it was through cookies as Ytown alluded to, and clearing them would solve the problem in 98% of the cases.

It was rather standard procedure in such cases, and worked almost every single time.

I wonder when and why it changed?

They changed it years ago, for the reason I specified above - so that tracking persisted across multiple computers. You could be on one computer at work and surf all day, then go home and have the home computer pick up right where the work one left off.

With cookies, that isn't possible because the information would all be stored on one or the other, they'd never be in sync.
