Yup, there goes that rumor. Hopefully we really wanted Thompson then because we are stuck with him now most likely.

Even the non-english speakers can describe Bosh to a tee.

Z just exercised his option with Miami for next year.

Jan Vesely goes to Washington ... then gets attacked by his wife/girlfriend. lol

Detroit takes Knight and the Bobcats take Walker ..... so no potential for trades with the Cavaliers there.

For all the talk of trades that we heard about, it's certainly been quiet on that front. Usually I've talked myself into a draft pick by now, but I still don't get this one. We now have 2 starting PG's and 4 starting PFs.

Hopefully we're setting up to trade Jamison or something.

We do have a glut of bodies at 2 positions. Strange so far.

They're flipping out on wknr right now, LOL

I'm shocked by Thompson too, but I'll be damned if I don't give the kid a shot and wait to give judgement

and that's even if he's a Cavalier by tomorrow morning!

So many people think that this is gonna get fixed overnight, we're not gonna be a 60 win team next year.

I also don't buy the argument that it should have been Williams at 1 simply because they could have gotten a pg at 3.

When you're in the Cavs position which is rare to have 2 picks in the top 4, you don't base your top pick on what you can get at 3, you just don't.

I do agree that moves with the roster have to be made because they are backloaded at power forward and also have a problem with having a kid who looks like he can start at the 1 right away, and a guy who gets paid a boatload of cash who may be a problem if they don't let him start.

The Morris brothers go back to back. Born 7 monutes apart, picked 5 minutes apart.

The Spurs may have a deal with Indiana for Kawhi Leonard

Fits perfectly for that team if they do get him.

That would make sense.

So ..... are the Cavaliers done in the 1st round ..... or do they make a trade, using Ramon Sessions or Boobie Gibson perhaps?

Maybe they still manage to grab a guy like Iguadola using their exemption. If there are no other takers, the Sixers may start worrying a bit.

I like the Sixers pick there. I think that they got great value.

Could be interesting to see who the Knicks take ... because the player may be a Cavalier in a trade for Sessions ......?

The trade exemption is good till next month ..... so we don't "have" to use it today.

I thought a lot of trades happened later in the draft in past years.

Next month there will be no trades because of the lockout.

When does the lockout begin?

The Cavaliers could make a trade tonight using the exception. Hell, they might make a trade using their own 2nd round pick and the exception for a particular player. Who knows?

Like they said though, I would rather see them not use the exception than to use it unwisely.

Lockout begins July 1st ... same day the trade exception goes away. I think the order of some picks have screwed up any trade scenerios that we may of gone for. Other than Irving, it's been a pretty depressing day ... thanks for reminding me that the trade exception will probably now go unused.

Man the Timberwolves have had a weird draft.

I'm not willing to go crazy over the trade exception yet. There's still a week after the draft for it to be used. In that case it would be for a player, and not a pick ..... or player + pick ...... but who knows what's going on behind the scenes?

wasn't there an issue of asking for an extension? Although I have no idea how that works or if a team would work with the Cavs to make a trade with it during the time of a lockout..

I agree with Ytown, I'd rather see the Cavs let it go unused than to just use it to use it.

Signing and trading lbj had to be done as much as that hurts, you had to at least put that exception in your back pocket just in case you saw the right move. Maybe it never came to them.

I think it expires a year from when the deal was made so it would be like July 7th or 8th if there wasn't a lockout.

you are correct and if there's a hard-cap, then there's no such thing as a TPE, so it could expire on July 1st with the lockout.

here is what I had to say about Tristan before I knew he was the pick:

i’ve been forcefed alot of Tristan and Hamilton here in Austin. while I want no part of Hamilton (he’ll be able to score, but he’s way too apathetic on defense and he has Josh Smith disease when it comes to shot-selection), I do like Tristan.

However, the #4 pick in the draft for Tristan? I haven’t seen anything that makes me think he’ll be worth that selection. Even in this weak draft.

Here’s more detail into what I have seen/heard here with Tristan:

He’s apparently an incredibly hard worker. And if you saw him his first year to today the best way to demonstrate that is how he went from looking like a Glen Davis clone to being the sculpted beast he is now. Also, on the court, he’s always hustling and moving and barking out commands to teammates. Not in the over-the-top Garnett fashion but you can tell he was the leader for the Longhorns this past year. His newfound strength allowed him to overpower guys for position in the post. I am not sure if he’ll be able to do this as easily in the NBA because he won’t have that advantage (he struggled against the Morris twins for instance). Also, he’s a lefty, which teams either didn’t always properly scout/prepare because there were times it took awhile for teams to adjust to it (Perry Jones, I see you). He can also run the fastbreak really well for a big man and also was good at getting the outlet pass off a rebound to the proper guys.

The issues with him are one that while he’s strong, he’s also going to be undersized at PF. the undersized PFs in the NBA generally are not “power” guys, but that is Tristan’s game (extremely poor man’s Charles Barkely). And, it’s not like that is going to change anytime soon because his outside/midrange shot is so ugly that he could go to Shawn Marion for pointers. And that extends to his FTs too.

all that said, I do like him and he would be a fine selection. if we were drafting in the later part of the top10. at #4, we have to get someone with a higher ceiling (IMO).

One other thing to think about. If Thompson does not have any kind of a mid-range/long range game, than you cannot play him alongside andy varejao who fits the C position at times. Perimeter guys will get SWARMED.

Just in general .....

I do think that the Cavaliers like Erden (who they traded for last year) as a developmental Center ...... so they may have figured; "Why draft another guy we can't put on the court this year?".
