Browns agreed to terms with OLB Antwan Peek on an undisclosed contract. We like it. If the 6-3/250-pound Peek can stay healthy, he'll get to the passer. Cleveland didn't need a star edge rusher as much as offensive line help, and addressed that with Eric Steinbach. Peek, 27, is worth a gamble as a possible replacement for Willie McGinest on the outside. http://www.rotoworld.com/Content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL

Decent signing, depending on the money. He has 3-4 experience and fills a role nicely. Keep 'em coming, Phil!

God, we are going to be stacked up with LB's. I'm asuming this means that we aren't going to go after Porter.
I mean as of now we have McMillan, Thompson, Stewart, Wimbley, Jackson, McGinest, Leon, Davis, Peek, Speegle?
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

March 3, 2007, 6:52PM Texans lineman Peek signs with Browns By JOHN McCLAIN Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle Texans defensive end Antwan Peek signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night. No contract terms were for immediately available for Peek, a four-year veteran who will play OLB in the Browns' 3-4 defense. When the Texans switched from a 3-4 to 4-3 under coach Gary Kubiak and defensive coordinator Richard Smith, Peek was moved from linebacker to defensive end. He was injured much of last season and fell out of favor with the coaches. Since the Texas drafted him in the third round out of Cincinnati in 2003, Peek has experienced problems keeping his weight up. He began last season at 260 pounds and finished at 238 pounds, too small to play end in a 4-3. Browns coach Romeo Crennel is one of the premier 3-4 advocates, making Peek appealing to Cleveland. john.mcclain@chron.comhttp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/4600004.html

Sweet. Probably closes the door on Porter.
Now let's get Hood signed.

Well, he is big enough, but how has he done in the 3-4 career wise and is he fast or is he more power? Still, from what i've heard/hear, he is a good player.
you had a good run Hank.

didn't know squat about this guy but found this little blurb: We like it. If the 6-3/250-pound Peek can stay healthy, he'll get to the passer. Cleveland didn't need a star edge rusher as much as offensive line help, and addressed that with Eric Steinbach. Peek, 27, is worth a gamble as a possible replacement for Willie McGinest on the outside. web page It looks like he may challenge for a starting role and at least not a bad pick-up for depth

Guess this will shut down the Porter talk. Not that we needed an OLB, but I guess our depth at the spot now is pretty deep. Beats paying a hefty price for Porter. Porter is a heck of a player, but he's not someone we need when we are already deep at OLB. We added some quality depth here for probably a reasonable price.

Don't know much about the guy. Looked up some stuff on him and he seems like he could be a pretty good player for us.
McGinest did wonders for Wimbley this year, hopefully he can make Peek a better player as well.

I saw this on the Texans board last night. I thought it was already posted here last night. The folks on the Texans board really like this guy. They say he's better suited for a 3-4 defense rather than a 4-3, which is why Houston let him walk.

That's what I read.
That is on a crappy defense too. Should be a little better here since we have a bit better of a defense. Hopefully we will have a good defense if we can get some d-lineman.

Great depth signing. Never know when Willie might hang it up. Welcome to Cleveland Antwan.

I thought we signed someone else.
This kinda seems like a very slow FA this year. I know it's only barely two days into it but it just seems slow.

Speaking of yelling funny things like this... have any of you heard the story of James "Fly" Williams?
Fly Williams played for Austin Peay many years ago, when they were actually a decent basketball team. The famous chant that Peay fans would yell was... "The Fly is open, lets go Peay!"

Glad to see that Phil is doing another fine job getting us some folks to help the line!!!

That's because we signed 3 guys overnite during the first hours of FA last year. I think teams were a bit anxious to get going since FA was pushed back several times. Yeah, I was hoping for more activity. I remember last year, it seemed everytime I looked up at my screen, we had a new Brown.

Does anyone else see the signing, and see us puttin Kam as a down lineman on some obvious pass rushing situations and putting a guy like peek in his spot and bum rushing the left side?
I kinda like the sound of it, if this guy can in fact get to the QB

I believe if you were to cast you're memory back to last season, you would realize that on the majority of passing downs,Kam had his hand down. I don't recall ever seeing this guy play,but,235 seems a bit lite for an OLB in a 3-4.Hey,if the guy can pass rush, bring him on.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Good signing...I really liked Peek as a prospect in the 2003 draft but he was a 3-4 DE/OBL tweener
He had 1 healthy season in the 3-4 in 2005, he started all 16 games:
46 Ts, 29 solo, 17 ass., 6 sacks, 2 FF, 2 FR
He is a pure pass rusher and I guess he will be a sit. pass rusher for us on obvious passing downs and I´m sure that means McMillan won´t be a Brown in September

Well it should complete the LB core..I had Peek penciled in when he was drafted.. It eliminates that need from the draft although Phil can still look at one.

It not only eliminates the need, but it means one of the guys mentioned above aren't needed anymore........I doubt we take one at all......maybe a 5-7 round pick if the value is there. Imo this also means we think Leon can handle ILB, because he is too good to not play at some point imo, and Peek is a starter folks...........probably not this year, but this kid is good enough to be a very good 3-4 OLB imo as well...........he's Willie's replacement, and a good one that again will be around for 4-5 years..............
Your doing a good job of staying away from the dinosours Phil.........keep it up!!!!

Exactly, It´s getting to the point that trading down, getting an extra 2nd rounder and drafting Branch is as good as drafting Joe Thomas...at least for me

I'd be happy trading down and drafting branch... (it's been my sig for a while now) as long as we get another OL in FA. and gget some gooood compensation for it.

I would still like to see Cleveland go after Marcus Bell who was released by Detroit, of course only if it's not for too much $.

last year both crennel and savage talked up McMillan, Romeo even saying he was the most improved on the whole team. We're probably going to lose Thompson soon. He's very tradeable and better suited to a 4-3. McGinnest is down to a few years, and Stewart is getting up there too. We'll keep McMillian.

Agreed...........Stewart and Thompson would be the guys I would think of to.....they make alot more $$$ than DM, and both seemed to regress last year imo.........DM is solid on STs, and is cheap. We'll keep him.
