Proving it was the only problem..
Right....because possibly there was no way to prove it or there wasn't anything there to prove.
Another example of the justice system working, and we should all be glad.
Say just for a moment she really is innocent of murder(I am talking to those who would have hung her months ago)...the system worked..a innocent person didn't get convicted.
Say for a moment she did it...the burden is on the state to prove she committed the crime.
Obviously they couldn't....so she should walk.
With time already served, I doubt she is locked up much longer.
Just as with the OJ trial, I think she did it....but that's just my opinion, and my opinion doesn't count.
Now she is innocent, as handed down by a jury of her peers.

But I do care about justice, and I despise the way the media blows things up just to get ratings. I am very surprised she was acquitted, but I'm glad. But, only to the extent it shows that the media can't persuade too much.
I understand what you are saying, and agree to an extent.
Now, think this a bit deeper. Did the media coverage and subsequent circus cause the state to move forward with a half assed case?
There is no limitation on when they could move forward with charges of murder.
IMO they moved way too soon....under duress from the public.
Eleven hours of deliberation after a trail and case such as this to deliver acquittal tells me the states case was flimsy from the start, and I am not blaming the DA here.
Sometimes John and Jane Q Public get frenzied in to needing immediate action.
OK....now that I have said that...is there a womans name that starts with Q??

Good point, 'Peen, and I agree. Thanks.
As for women's names that start with Q, maybe Queen?

I didn't mean a made up name....if Queen Latiffa's name is really Queen, her parents are morons, and holding as such, I don't count that as a legit female name.
If that is real, so be it.....but it's like a dog name.
Fluffy and Quennie might work for small dogs, but not for human females....but hey, that's just my opinion.

Color me one of those people that didn't follow the actual trial - and only knew about the case from what I read in the media.
With that said, I was sure she'd be convicted - based only on what I had read over the last however long.
I find it interesting, though, that the jury - the people that sat through the whole trial, heard all the testimony, all the facts, etc - acquitted her. It re-affirms the reason we don't try people in the media.
Did she do it? Help? I have no idea - I have a guess - but that's what it is, really - a guess.

It's a shame she got away with it. Pretty sloppy for a perfect crime, but it ended up being just that. I don't blame the jury, there obviously wasn't a good piece of hard evidence to convict the monster. Shut up, Phil.
That's just it. When all you have is circumstantial evidence, you need a strong motive to convict...and they weren't able to show one.

You of all people know there is a difference between being innocent and not guilty.
And Mantis, I know you know the answer to the question you are asking, why not just argue your point instead of feigning ignorance?
Some people believe in "karma", some in an afterlife where a higher power deals with you, etc. As you know, regardless of which one of these type of things they believe in, they mean they will pay somewhere other than in the court of law.

Does innocent or not guilty really matter?
Either way, she walks and she can never again be tried for this child's death. The rest is just semantics.

One thing that really interests me about this case - and like I said, I know nothing other than what I have read in the media - but, what interests me is there has been a somewhat similar situation not too far from me. John Skelton - Morenci, Michigan - his 3 sons are "missing"....there was a thread about it a while back. No sense going over all the details here......but, everyone around here "knows" he killed his 3 kids.
I am one that "knows" he did. But, there's no evidence of that, aside from the missing kids. He, however, is not being charged with murder - just kidnapping. 3 counts. My understanding is, if found guilty, he could get life for each count.
Anyway, I don't want people put in prison for something that is not provable in a court of law. If I was a betting person, I'd lay money that Anthony did it, or at a minimum, was in on it (the florida case here). But if you can't convince the jury - well, you can't.
I'm afraid this hill jack up here, Skelton, might get acqutited - but, with the charges being kidnapping, things change just a bit.
The kids were last seen with him. His story has changed so many times (like the Anthony case) it's pathetic. And just this week, he changed his story again. Instead of "I gave my kids to a group to protect them"......it's "this underground group took my kids, and if I don't get out of jail, the kids will never be seen again."
Anyway - I see so many similarities between the Anthony case and the Skelton case.....makes me wonder. However, Michigan is not charging Skelton with murder....................

I haven't paid one bit of attention to this case.
Until today.
It seems like everyone I know is up in arms over the verdict. I haven't followed the case at all ..... but man ..... the jury was out for less than 1 day ....... and they reached a unanimous not guilty verdict. That tells me that the prosecutor didn't put forth much of a case at all. They didn't even pursuade 1 juror, for one day. That's pathetic on the part of the prosecutor. I don't know why they even brought the case if it was that damn weak.

The father is presumed dead. On an unrelated note - and I want to say this can't be real, as someone couldn't be this stupid - Salon is quoting Michele Bachmann with the following on tonight's 'Hannity': Quote:
BACHMANN: Well, I've been visiting all the primary states, and I've been talking to people, and people all over the place are asking me, why, in Barack Obama's America, someone who murders a baby who happens to be white doesn't get punished

No, it was satire, that Salon chose to run within their news.
Took them about an hour or so to correct it, adding in some more off-the-wall quotes.

Well it was stupid for them to go after the death penalty in the case. If it was less, like manslaughter or something like that, it may have worked. Another thing to keep in mind is that some "evidence" that has been released by the media was dismissed by the judge to be not admissable(sp?) in this trial.
But then again, Scott Peterson got convicted and sent to death row under circumstantial evidence which is what didn't convict Casey Anthony in this case.

As I said earlier....the media coverage frenzied the public in to forcing the DA to take action.
That or the DA got caught up in the frenzy and confused the real evidence with what he or she was watching on tv.
At least that is my feeling.

Well, I've kinda calmed down a bit and after some reflection, I can see why they didn't convict Casey of Murder or manslaughter.. They just didn't have enough hard evidence to do so.
While I'm guessing that just about everyone on the planet feels she's guilty. with no proof of guilt, not guilty was the only reasonable verdict.
I'm sad for Caylee...

Peen, serious question.. do you think the popularity of shows like CSI have tainted juries? A lot of people watch those shows and in those shows they always end up with a perfect trail of irrefutable scientific evidence that leads right to the guilty party.... Real life doesn't work that way and I wonder how many jurors expect it to work that way.

Wasn't OJ tried and convicted in a civil lawsuit after being acquitted in his criminal lawsuit? Could the same be done to Casey Anthony? I remember the burden of proof is much less of a factor in the civil lawsuit, which is why OJ lost that one.

J/C
Am I the only one here who thinks that she won't make it another year in society? The ONLY reason why I say that is we now live in a world where folks are willing to bomb clinics and send threats at the drop of a hat and she is now thrust into a situation where folks are rabid for her to get the justice they feel she deserves. I certainly have no sympathy for her, (I think she's guilty as sin) but I do think in this case, as opposed to OJ, we will see some form of vigilante justice. The circumstances in this case are so radically different from OJ considering that case was a crazed abusive husband, whereas this case deals with a defenseless 2 year old that was *supposedly* kiled by her partying mother so she could continue with her life unhindered by Caylee.
I get the sense that this case won't die the death of cases as we have seen in the past. This just deals with too much raw emotion. And because of that, Casey will NEVER be allowed to live a normal life in society, and I think that is perfectly fine with me.
On a side note, I'm a single male with a healthy appreciation for females, but there is absolutley nothing redeeming about Casey. I've read comments on Yahoo and here about how "hot" she is and how she should make money with her body. Really? I can't believe any sane, rational person could even look at her and feel attraction to her. She seems like the biggest ice queen ever, not to mention a child killer...

if that happens at all (and it seems plausible that it could happen some of the time), then it would be pretty ironic. the shows creators said one of the reasons they came up with the idea for the show was to educate the public on some of the evidence that is used in trials (partially inspired after the OJ trail jurors basically dismissed the DNA evidence because they didn't understand it). Oh, and to make a ridiculous amount of money off another cop show. That too (but that doesn't sound as good in interviews).

This case is an absolute travesty!
This case is a classic case of jury incompetence! straight up incompetence!
lets ask a few questions here shall we:
1. "Why would Casey lie if she didn't have anything to do with the murder?" The jury found her guilty of 4 counts of lying.
2. "You found Casey to be not negligent". How can a parent not be negligent if they haven't reported their child missing AFTER 30 DAYS??
3. Why didn't you hold the Defense team responsible for bringing up the "Accidental drowning of Caylee" (cause of death) and then NEVER MENTIONING it again---and never offering any PROOF that it happened that way???
how can a jury not find a mother to be guilty of negligence when her daughter is missing not reported for 30 days and then ends up dead? really? shes not at least negligent?
this is the idiocy we have in society today....
if Anthony had nothing to do with this, she would not have lied to police...she told stories to the police and purposly mislead investigators for as long as she could to allow her kids body to decompose beyond the point of finding any evidence.
the fact Anthony lied to police and covered this up means at the very least she is an "accessory or in part to blame" for the death of the child...that a fact...
I agree even though she is guilty of murder there was not enough evidence to convict her of murder however there was MORE THEN ENOUGH ample evidence to get her on Manslaughter...thats what im ticked about.
This is just another classic case of jury incompetence no different then the OJ Trial....
you mark my words...Casey was involved in that kids deaths...now the state of Florida needs to sue her for lieing to police and wasting tax payer dollars chasing after people that didn't exist among many other things.
also, if the kids father is smart..he files a civil suit against her for "being responsible for his childs death" just like the goldman's did against OJ
the father needs to make sure this disgusting woman NEVER benefits from any of this....this girl only got off becuase of an incompetent jury....Scott Peterson was found guilty on the same kind of evidence...the difference was the jury had common sense, obviously this jury in Florida didn't...

I hope your never on a jury if I'm accused of something, because apparently physical proof is not more important than your personal opinion.
It's very possible the only thing she is guilty of is covering up an accidental death. That's a lot different than killing the child herself.
