Asdrubel showing why UZR is a flawed defensive metric again last night
Masterson is an actual ace. Hopefully, Belcher can work his magic with Carrasco as well (Tabasco is a year in development behind Masterson)
The 'Chis' sure looks good so far.
And, most thankfully, our defense finally is back. We took a 3 week vacation from playing the type of defense that we had been playing to that point. For whatever reason, it's back and I hope it stays.
also, how amazing is it that the Tribe is in 1st place despite having 2 of the statistically worst starting pitchers in the AL among their regular rotation (Carmona and Talbot).
If either Gomez or McCallister can take Talbot's spot (they don't have to be great, just below average and it'll be an improvement) and White can take over for Carmona when he gets back late this month, then we should actually get a boost.
Had to respond to DC's post in the other thread ....
Quote: Not sure I consider myself an organization basher but if the trades lead to a couple good years and a couple playoff runs but then we have to sell off the top 2 or 3 players again then what have we accomplished?
Then we've accomplished a couple of good years and playoff runs ... the alternative is to be a team with 2 or 3 big name, large contracts and NEVER get to the playoffs ... that's the Seattle Mariner/Baltimore Oriole Model.
On another note, my cousin posted some picks of her trip to Jacobs park the other day. The crowd looked like something out of the early 90's Muni days ... for a first place team.
Well ... the Indians are making it interesting ..... down 4 - 0 in the bottom of the 9th .... bases loaded ...... nobody out ......

Quote: Hamilton is one of the very best at what he does in this town. What a call.
Hamilton is one of the very best in the game, and I say that as an outsider. The best part of that call was the silence... I've always thought the secret to being a good play-by-play guy is to know when to shut the hell up and just let the listener soak up the moment; that's what he did there. Imagine what the crowd would have sounded like had their been more than 18K?
"If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college" GO ROCKETS
For those that were able to watch the game, how did McAllister look? I see he only lasted 4 innings due to a high pitch count, was he out of control?
he looked like a rookie pitcher. the blue jays seemed to want to work the counts to see what the kid had. he strike out a bunch (4) and walked a bunch (3) along with giving up the 2 earned runs (stupid errors).
it was a promising start as he didn't look like he was overwhelmed, but he definitely didn't look as good as Gomez and Tomlin did in their debuts last July. he's back in AAA now (valbuena called up), but I suspect we'll see more of him before the year is out.

He looked super nervous, a lot of balls in the dirt and sort of wild. With that in mind, he had some really good pitches and calmed down a bit as the game went on. I think he will do a heck of a job, he had some good stuff out there.
Quote: Wow, nothing can top a walk off slam in a game. Freaking fantastic man.
And being 3 runs down when it was hit. That's exactly what every kid dreams about (well, Game 7 in the World Series too).
They said the last time this happened for the Tribe was April 22, 1973. Funny, that was 2 weeks from my actual birthday. I don't really remember that one...this one, I'll remember.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Not sure why, but I can't seem to post youtube stuff anymore ... Anyhoo, I didn't see it posted, so here's a link to see Hafner's blast from last night. Majestic.
i think the other thing that gets me excited was that it's first pitch. if hafner is taking the first pitch and crushing it like that, you know he's on. He's such a patient hitter that you know he is right on point when he is that agressive first pitch.
love it. i think the guy's back. just hope he can stay healthy.
