This woman is off her rocker. She thinks Neil Armstrong raised the American flag on Mars, that the Tea Party is the KKK and that North and South Vietnam are still separate nations. Now this. Every president since Kennedy has had this kind of opposition to contend with.

Jackson Lee: Congress complicating debt ceiling because Obama is black
By Josiah Ryan - 07/15/11 03:02 PM ET

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Friday strongly suggested that members of Congress are making it difficult for President Obama to raise the debt ceiling because of his race.

"I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

Earlier in her speech, Jackson Lee said Obama has been targeted unlike any other president.

"I am particularly sensitive to the fact that only this president — only this one, only this one — has received the kind of attacks and disagreement and inability to work, only this one," said Jackson Lee from the House floor.

"Read between the lines," she continued. "What is different about this president that should put him in a position that he should not receive the same kind of respectful treatment of when it is necessary to raise the debt limit in order to pay our bills, something required by both statute and the 14th amendment?"

Jackson Lee concluded by saying that she hoped someone would step up and say that what appears obvious to her is not in fact true.

"I hope someone will say that what it appears to be is not in fact accurate," said Lee. "But historically it seems to be nothing more."

No offense man, but this lady has no couth, no common sense, no sense of propriety and has treated her own staffers worse than dogs that to even consider anything she says as worthy of intellectual discussion is a disgrace to all things intellectual.

Just google the lady and watch a vid of her talking on her phone while a lady asks her a health care question at a town hall meeting. Read how her own staffers quit regularly and one is suing her. The crap goes on and on

I wonder if she is aware that in the past we have had this very same debt ceiling debate. In fact about 8 times we have actually failed to raise the debt ceiling before the "default date" and on not one occassion have we actually defaulted because the debt interest still gets paid.. as does social security and everything else that is really important... In fact 90% of the scare and horror tactics the dems are throwing out about what will happen if we don't meet this date are pure and utter fabrication....

I also wonder how she feels about the fact that Obama voted to NOT raise the debt ceiling when Bush was President? But I'm sure that was "different"...

In fact, go to this congressional report and you don't have to read the whole thing (though it is informative) and start on page 9 and read "The Debt Limit Issue of 2002"... I'm pretty sure the President then was white...

She's also proof that just because you have a degree from a good school and went to law school doesn't make you smart... the funny thing is that the people who would defend her would make fun of Michelle Bachman for being stupid..

I'm not sure how to take that.

Well to be fair, Michelle Bachman is stupid, but this lady makes her seem like a pretty good alternative

You may not agree with her politics, that's fine, but to call Bachman stupid, with a Juris Doctor in Law from Oral Roberts University and a Masters of Law from William and Mary, this lady is far from stupid.

It's not like saying that at all. Someone who is stupid is not going to get an advanced degree. That's just an idiotic statement.

Well, you are talking about people who will bash the Republicans for engaging in class warfare, then months later start talking about how they support the Democrats notion to start taxing a certain class(the rich) of people.

I know many stupid people who have earned an advanced degree. A lot of people do.

Hell, a great deal of this board probably thinks I'm one.

What would a 60 yr old black woman from Texas know about "racism"?

Everyone knows, there is no racism in this country...right?

And, most certainly, there is no racism within the GOP and Tea Party...right?

On the issue of the debt ceiling...I have to laugh and shake my head at the GOP...

...They voted for the Iraq War...borrowed the money to fund it
...The GOP voted for the Afghan War...borrowed the money to fund it
...GOP voted for Medicare drug benefit...borrowed the money to fund it
...Tax cuts...GOP didn't pay for that either...borrowed the money to fund it

Fact is, the GOP used the American Taxpayers credit card for everything they did during the Bush2 admin...didn't pay for any of it.

The GOP voted to raise the debt limit something like 7 times, during the bush2 yrs...

Enter Barrack Obama...suddenly, the GOP doesn't want to vote to pay for the debt they ran up during the Bush2 yrs...GOP HYPOCRACY AT IT'S BEST!...IMO

I'd call her stupid, anti-intellectual even. Her ignorance on certain topics centered in the sciences has been shown to her and yet she doesn't take that as a calling to learn, rather her cognitive dissonance leads her to something called Motivated Reasoning. Her beliefs trump everything and that's how she lives her life, turning a blind eye to anything that doesn't agree with that previous notion. She believes homosexuality is a choice (it's not), she believes intelligent design and creationism should be taught in sciences classes (neither are scientific), and that the USA was founded as a christian nation (it wasn't). So yes, I'm quite afraid of the implications of her taking office when her ability to make logical choices in the face of hard fact is nonexistent.

Simple question mac, not that you will answer. Do you honestly believe the hold up on the budget is because of Obama's race? If you answer no, then WTH does anything you just posted have to do with the topic?

Can someone point out to me which part of the 14th amendment she's talking about? The fourth section says that the validity of the debt shall not be questioned, but isn't it far-fetched to say that this means we are required to "raise the debt limit to pay our bills"? Or is my interpretation completely out of line?
