I assume with Texas getting their own TV Network gimmick, they either want the Big 12 to stay, or they'll go Independant.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Joe Bauserman reminds me too much of Todd Boeckman and not in a good way. Is there really any point in starting Bauserman? Why not start Braxton Miller and let him have his growing pains this season instead of next?
Fickell needs to win now. He probably feels more comfortable wit Joe because of experience. He can be a game manager and rely on OSU being more superior in talent than bad teams.

i completely agree. he knows he needs to win now. winning fixes everything. bring joe in and rely heavily on the run game. we are loaded at runningback. i expect to see a lot of running the ball, controlling the clock, and relying on the defense this year.

It all starts tonight! GOOOOOOO TOLEDO! Beat New Hampshire! I have a strong feeling the Rockets will start off 2-0 before losing to the Boise St the 16th. Oh well, 2-1 isn't a bad way to start the season. And yes, I realize Toledo is playing that team from Columbus on the 10th.

the fact that you have a 26 year old senior quarterback with years of knowledge of the system, and you are still talking about a freshman maybe starting, tells you everthing you need to know about joe bauserman.
my advice for fickell would be to get braxton out there immediately because i think we all know the ceiling for bauserman. i was at the illinois game last year when he came in for 3 plays and i honestly could have done better.

well, I don't know. You may think you are going to win, but I hear Capital University is expected to finish 6th in the OAC. You might have more troubles than you think http://stage.capital.edu/Athletics/Athletics_News/Crusaders_Tabbed_Sixth_in_OAC_Preseason_Polls.aspx
if you are playing any other university in the Columbus area, then you might as well accept defeat now. because this isn't michigan. even in the down years the Buckeyes take care of MAC schools

Pffftt....the Buckeye's won't have the magic sweater vest to protect them from our Rocket power!
We beat Michigan in the Big House a few years back...and now it's our turn to beat tosu at the Shoe.
Boom goes the dynamite!

All Bauserman needs to do is not screw up and just get the ball to our 3 headed monster. Berry, Rod Smith, and Hyde will beast.
Can't wait to see Andrew Luck. If he gets help from his defense I think Stanford goes to the title game.

I dig your style, but I'm not jumping on the enthusiasm train just yet - I've been burned too many times by writing checks that my teams couldn't cash.
I will say though, that if the Rockets are ever gonna beat OSU this would be the year.
Beat Penn State... beat Michigan... one more left.
One step at a time though, better take care of New Hampshire, lol.

58-22 Toledo. Should have been 58-15 but apparently a freshman missed a tackle toward the end of the game and let up a long TD run. I'll take it

Didn't know if this should have it's own thread or not. With more players being suspended this is getting ridiculous. I know it's for one game, but again!? By Erick Smith, USA TODAY Updated 5h 35m ago Two projected Ohio State starters and one other player have been suspended for the team's season opener against Akron. Running back Jordan Hall and defensive backs Travis Howard and Corey Brown received impermissible benefits at a charity event they attended earlier in the year. None of the players obtained benefits worth more than $300. Hall, who is listed at the team's top running back for the Akron game, had 37 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns last season. Howard is OSU's starting left cornerback on its depth chart. He saw action in 10 games and had 13 tackles and two interceptions. Brown, a backup safety, played in seven games and totaled five tackles. Six other Buckeyes are already suspended for the game, including running back Dan Herron, wide receiver DeVier Posey, offensive tackle Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas, who all will miss five games as part of their involvement in an investigation that led to the departures of quarterback Terrelle Pryor and Jim Tressel. "We take this matter seriously," athletic director Gene Smith said in a statement. "Our commitment to institutional integrity is steadfast, and we must hold everyone associated with our athletics programs accountable for lapses in judgment. We believe in transparency with the NCAA, all regulatory bodies and all of Buckeye Nation." Hall, Howard and Brown will be eligible to return on Sept. 10 against Toledo. Link to story

What a joke, lip service from my alma mater. I know this happens all over the NCAA, but what a joke this has become. Super unfortunate from a once proud institution. Ohio State, deservedly so, you get sent to the back of the pack.

???? I'm no Gene Smith fan but what are they suppose to do? They caught the kids, they issued a punishment that matches what NCAA hands down for that $$ amount. Don't know what they could have done differently.
Are they suppose to hire a person to shadow each member of the football team at all hours of the day to make sure they aren't taking improper benefits?

Sure, that would be a good idea. That way we won't have anymore players suspended, coaches fired and seasons lost. They should have Brutus on the sideline Saturday drinking a 40 in a brown paper bag

before or after he gets dinged up?
been watching him for years now. he's a dynamite player, but he gets hurt too easy, he is not a good passer, and he's hyped up more than he should be (i've seen him as a Heisman sleeper which is silly) because his overall stats always look good because he really beats up on the bad teams.
oh, and against TCU last year:
16/28 for 164yds 1TD 0INT 14 rushes for 21yds
lost 45-10

Heard on the radio on the way home from Dustin Fox that it was a goodie bag that had a Coffe Mug, a bag of cookies and a computer mouse. Had they ran it through compliance it would of fell into acceptable category but since they didn't they were suspended.

Watching the Zips against the Buckeyes. I find this commentary absolutely horrible. No one has done their research on Akron which is quite embarrassing. They act like there is no other team on the field.

The announcers are pretty horrible.
"I don't know why they didn't leave the young QB (Miller, 0-1) in there" ...... as Bauserman's gone 7-8 for 97 yards and a TD ......and he ran for another TD. (3 runs for 26 yards)

if you're talking about the tv announcers for bspn, i agree..
i love chris spielman, i think he has great passion for ohio state, he was a great player, but he is really bad in the booth. i like urban meyer so far but wish he'd open up a bit more.
the friday night crew has really grown on me. joe tessitore and rod gilmore. they usually get a decent game plus when i see them on i know it's friday lol

Wow, Mark May is a complete idiot once again this season! Every has nice things to say about OSU and he's blinded by his hate thinking a 21-0 lead at halftime isn't good enough because it's Akron. At least Lou Holtz straight up called him an idiot, I love it! Ahh back to Mark May suckage.

Yeah ... that was kinda ridiculous. It was like "Complete domination by a team with 7 suspended starters and 2 new QBs is simply not enough. They should be doing so much better. Oh, and can you believe they missed a FG too?" What a tool. That catch by Spenser was absolutely incredible. He spun and caught that ball with one hand, while falling backwards. Just amazing.

Can't STAND him... As soon as he started talking I turned it over....
Also on the announcers I have never really been a fan of Spielman as an anouncer... Urban was alright but I'm not sold on him yet...
for the Bucks it was a solid game.... doesn't tell us much since it was against a bad team. But offense looked pretty good for not having a lot of play makers. Both QBs looked really good... Braxton is going to be a beast in a few years!
Defense looked solid... special teams needs some work.
Overall I liked the game plan as well. Was happy for Luke.
we'll get a better idea of how OSU will be this year when they play Miami

it's obvious mark may hates ohio state and will not give them credit for anything.
he was raving about how alabama looked, while they were pumelling kent state. double standard with him.
it's unprofessional. i understand he may have history with ohio state, but dude, be a professional when you're in front of the cam, what a db.

Source: OU, Texas talking Pac-16
The concept of the Pac-16 is again being discussed by Pac-12 officials as well as officials at Oklahoma and Texas, a source close to the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad.
The source said the pair of Big 12 schools know the opportunity to join the Pac-12 is their decision. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech could also join the proposed Pac-16, according to the source.
Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said Saturday the conference isn't seeking expansion partners, but acknowledged that "schools have reached out to us." "We are not doing anything proactively," Scott said to reporters before Saturday's Oregon-LSU game. "We've not initiated anything. But schools have called us. And we are certainly going to listen. We always are going to evaluate."
Scott emphasized the conference wasn't being "predatory." While Scott was aggressive last year trying to expand Pac-10 membership to 16 teams, with Texas as the cornerstone, he said his motivation then was securing a lucrative TV contract. He's done that with a 12-team league by signing a $3 billion, 12-year deal with ESPN and Fox, the richest deal in college sports.
"We haven't felt one iota of need since we expanded," Scott said. In other words, Scott feels good about where the Pac-12 is positioned at present and if anything were to change. "I wouldn't rule out any possibility," he said.
Citing that TV deal and its revenue-sharing model, Scott did say that Texas could not keep the Longhorn Network if it were to join the Pac-12.
"We're wedded to that model," Scott said, adding, "anyone who is going to be a member of our conference is going to be a part of our network model."
However, a source told ESPN's Schad that Pac-12 officials believe the parties could work through Texas' network issues.
Even with Scott in Arlington, Texas, for Saturday night's game, Texas officials told HornsNation.com's Carter Strickland there is no meeting scheduled between Scott and Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds.
Scott has no plans to meet with Oklahoma officials, a school source told The Oklahoman on Saturday.
Oklahoma was offered a chance to join the Pac-10 or SEC last year but decided to stick with the Big 12, even as Nebraska left for the Big Ten and Colorado for the Pac-10. The Big 12 took a further hit when Texas A&M announced Wednesday it will leave the Big 12 by July 2012 if it can find another home, preferably in the SEC. The Aggies' departure would drop the league that once had 12 teams to nine members.
Dodds told The Associated Press the Longhorns love the Big 12 and want to stay in league. He said Texas will be watching to see what happens to the league over the next few days if Oklahoma decides to leave.
With all the moving pieces, Oklahoma State billionaire booster T. Boone Pickens said Saturday he doesn't think the Big 12 will last much longer and believes the Cowboys eventually will end up in what's now the Pac-12 Conference. Pickens said he believes the Big 12 probably won't exist in five years.
On Friday, Oklahoma president David Boren confirmed multiple conferences have shown interest in the Sooners and he expects to decide whether to leave the Big 12 or not within the next three weeks.
Boren said Oklahoma is seeking stability in its conference relationship with "partners that are both outstanding athletically and academically as well because a conference that's strong is not only stable but it's one in which there are multiple relationships, along with sports, between the university members."
Missouri athletic director Mike Alden called Boren's comments eyebrow-raising, given what Missouri thought was a conference-wide belief in the future of the Big 12.
"It's somewhat surprising that comment came out because I know everybody's been working together," Alden told The Associated Press Saturday. "You put something like that out there and it just reinforces that image of being unstable."
Kansas State athletic director John Currie also said Saturday his school remains committed to the Big 12, whether that means in its current configuration or through future expansion.
Currie told The Associated Press in an interview Saturday he believes the nine schools that will make up the league after Texas A&M departs prefer to see the Big 12 endure. He also says the conference could add one or more members, but the primary goal is to achieve stability.
Information from ESPN.com's Ted Miller and The Associated Press contributed to this report
