I am not a fan of Droughns and think he leaves a lot of yardage out on the field, but IMO trading or cutting Droughns would be a bad move. We wouldn't save that much money, and he provides enough to this team to justify keeping him around. At worst he is a solid number 2, and he can play fullback as well. We have the cap room, might as well let him hang around one more year unless a team offers something above Droughns' value.

We have two fullbacks on our roster now, we don't need another one.

What is the sense of keeping a guy on our roster that we already know what he can and can't do just because he comes cheap? Why waste the roster spot? We could get someone else in here and give them a shot. I don't think they could do much worse.

I think the problem now a days is everyone wants to say. Well Reuben rushed for 1,000 yards two years ago. He also broke a Browns record for carries that year. 1,000 yards isn't what it used to be in the NFL anymore. Broncos all most had two this year. Addai had over 1,000 on less carries. It's time to give someone else a shot. Whether it be someone already on the roster, a FA, a late draft pick or a UDFA.

I wonder if the Browns are thinking about bringing J. Lewis in here?

I have no inside info. on this one, just something that popped into my head. I would prefer him to Droughns and I certainly don't want the Browns to draft Peterson.

I can't really say I want Lewis. I am kind of iffy on passing on Peterson but with his injury history and our extremely bad luck, i'm kind of iffy on drafting him as well. If we could trade down I think Marshawn Lynch could be a pretty descent option.

Hopefully your right. I thought the same thing last year but injurys killed us and so did Mo not calling calling the right protection for plays and it mad our line look a hell of alot worse..

If everyone can stay healthy and we can get one or two more guys on the o-line we should be set.

Seriously...what's with all the BS about his injury history.
People are playing this card WAAAAAY too much!
AP missed games due to a sprained ankle. Who the hell hasn't sprained their ankle playing competitive sports. You come down wrong or step on someones foot and you twist your ankle.
The other reason he missed games was due to a broken collar bone that he suffered when he dove into the endzone on a 53 yard touchdown run. (again 53 yard touchdown run), when was the last time a Browns fan saw that? "Run Willy run" probably.
These are fluke injuries that once they heal there are usually no lingering effects.
Its not like he blew out his knee, I think Joe Thomas did but I could be wrong.
He doesn't have lingering back problems.
He didn't have any structural or ligament damage, he had a sprained ankle and a broken bone, period.
Everyone is saying how we should pass on what alot of professionals consider a possible probowl running back because of those injuries. There is also talk about how we pass because next years RB class is going to be great. I seem to remember that BS about this years offensive tackle class. After Thomas and Brown there is a dramatic drop off.
Get our back of the future now. Yes good backs are a dime a dozen, but lgrat backs are hard to come by. We f'd up and passed on LT and we've done nothing but bitch about it ever since. Look at Houston since they passed on Bush, they had to sign a RB on the downside of his career to fill the position.

Don't get me wrong, I want peterson just as bad as the next guy........but his injury history has to be looked at whether it's a freak accident or not. There is another guy who had all the potential in the world that constantly had "freak" injuries. You might remember him. Courtney Brown.

I know that. I'm not saying I think we should not draft him. All i'm saying is that it worries me.

I mean can you blame me?

Numerous first round busts and injury after injury every single year to players we really don't need being hurt.

I think we better get used to the fact that we MIGHT just end up with a Franchise Back versus a LT...It may just happen...Even if we trade down...

U KNOW I WANT THOMAS...Thinking as a Browns war roomer tho...What if we were able to trade down and the deal was THAT SWEET...We end up with another high 2nd rounder and maybe more inside round 4...Is it worth letting Thomas go for Peterson and a combo of one of the top GUARDS and DEFENSIVE LINEMEN in round 2???...Ya' gotta think long and hard about that...

What would accelerate us more???...A LT and say a DL...Or a RB and a Top Guard and a high 2nd round DL???...Love JT or not...Dude that's a serious question right there...Shaffer ain't a POS and now he's got a Guard next to em' that won't need the help Andruzzi did...

I've gotten wind that Andruzzi played ALL YEAR in serious PAIN...

Vickers...This is the guy that can split with a Peterson if we did in fact let Droughns go...We don't need to bring in a Lewis although the thought has crossed my mind...

If we trade Droughns away there isn't much left for us out there as far as RB's are concerned. Also, this move (I could be wrong) would be like showing our hand to all of the NFL. It would be saying, "yes we need a RB and yes, the draft is where we are going to get him." If we did that then we'd effectively be stuck at our spot without a real chance at enticing anyone to trade up with us.

I'm not saying we "need" Droughns or that there aren't other better RB's out there. But I think with our needs, OL, DL and such, we can't afford to be looking at ONE position as a need over another and that's what we'd be doing by trading Reuben. We'd be saying we NEED an RB before anything else because who do we have in our backfield? An injured Jason Wright? A rookie Jerome Harrison? No, we can't afford that especially with the very real possibility that Joe Thomas could still be there for us at 3.

I know some are only about AP, but if JT is there, you've gotta be thinking "franchise LT." I like AP, I think if JT isn't there, AP is our guy or at a close second, Alan Branch is. But JT isn't a guy you pass up on, he can't be with our O-Line situation the way it is. We've gotten a few pieces to the puzzle, but it is a puzzle with a lot of pieces still missing IMO.

I'm just saying we can't afford to be hanging our boots up on ONE guy above all the rest. I know there are other possibilities out there in Tony Hunt or Antonio Pittman and whomever, but as you get into the later 1st day picks, you never know who will be there and who won't.

like someone else said, shopping droughns could just be smoke to get someone to jump. the rumors and possibilities are endless. one day it's schaub and #10 for our pick, the next its carr, and some of their picks. i've even heard the jets might play along in the bidding for that wonderful #3. that's why this time of year can be almost as exciting (and the nfl knows this) as the regular season. this is where you build. right now its just a big game of poker

my first choice would be thomas, but if he's gone trade down a few spots, and get branch and another pick. droughns is on the downside but he is serviceable if he's not of value to another team. get something for him if you can, there are runners in FA. if you can't, use him for what fits the team, he can run powerfully when healthy, catch a little, block, and play special teams

It is like I have been saying....Thomas would be a great pick, but he isn't so good as he would be better than another top pick plus a top pick second rounder.

Obviously you have to assume the people you select work out, but at this point Thomas is in the same boat, so you have to assume they will.

Another running back that may be dumped:

LaMont Jordan, the former Jets running back who is due a $4.75 million roster bonus on March 7, may be released by the Raiders.

Dead Zone BS thats all.

Somebody brainfarted this in the Denver press and it was quoted in Cleveland press and now quoted by Rotoworld and soon to be KFFL too.

If and when we sign a FA like Jamel Lewis or draft an RB of Peterson/Lynch quality then we would be in a position to trade RD back to Denver...probably for a 6th round pick or something...nothing more...or a CB they will be cutting now that they got Bly???

I don't know about Jamal Lewis coming here.. it kinda bothers me a little that he has had a character issue,,, but I can get past that if he straightened out and it appears that he has.. But it's the drop off in production that bothers me,,

It could be that because they brought in McNair, they just didn;'t use Lewis enough to get him rolling.. But that doesn't exactly hold water either..

He ran the ball 314 times for 1132 yards, 3.6 yards average, 9 TDs and a long run of 52 yards...

He added another 115 yards receiving on 18 receptions... So I suppose he's at least as good as Reuben has been for us... actually, a little better to be honest..

YEAH, if he has his act together on the character side, I'd take him,.. savage knows this guy pretty well,,, if he brings him in, then he must be convinced his troubles are behind him,.,,

As for Peterson,,, I just love how this kid runs,,,, so fluid,, very fast looking and great moves,,, But what concerns me is what concerns everyone,,, his injuries...

Heres whats not forseen..depending on far the drop would be, it doesn't guarantee Peterson would be there..that would be a blow if RD is gone.

Hey, this is Cleveland lets blame everybody except the OL.

Everyone on here wants OL. We've worked on the OL. Re-signing Fraley, and signing Steinbach. Last year, we got Bentley, he just ended up hurt. For some reason, you seem to think that this team is an OL away from being a contender, and that's not the case. Yes, we need OL, but we have many other needs as well, including RB, and QB.

I wouldn't like releasing Droughns. I'm not his no. 1 fan, and I think he has something to prove, but I think he is at least serviceable. He isn't super-expensive. Also, I just don't want to pick Peterson, and if we get rid of Droughns, I see us maybe going that way.

Yeah, and actually, I think with the signing of Steinbach, Tucker coming back, and the re-signing of Fraley, and the possiblity of Bentley back in '08, the DL is a more pressing need than the OL at this point. I was just pointing out that we have a lot of holes to fill, including the skilled positions.

Actually, we don't know for sure if we have "needs" at RB and QB yet. That's the point of contention. We KNOW that we need OL and it has been a top priority, same as DL. Droughns had 1,200 yards a year ago and MAY be able to return to form with upgrading of the line. We may actually find out what we have at QB with the OL upgrade, too. Let's fix what we KNOW is in need of fixing and then we can actually fix things if they are indeed in need of it after we know for sure.

Well look at it this way, the O-Line is a need, so if Joe Thomas is there, draft him and it's likely to no longer BE a need. We take him, put him at LT, move Schaffer over to RT, and move Ryan Tucker inside to RG. Our O-Line is set (on paper) and all it has left to do is gel and get used to working as a unit. It would look as such:

LT- Joe Thomas
LG- Eric Steinbach
C- Hank Fraley
RG- Ryan Tucker
RT- Kevin Schaffer

Sure, it's a OL in the making still, we are going to have to consistently draft more OL in other rounds of other drafts, but we'll have the basis for a good O-Line. The fact that Ryan Tucker is a mean streak, mauling type RT with a hard punch means he would fit in perfectly at RG. The fact of the matter is, OL will always be a need because we just don't have the depth to really be secure with it right now. But with ONE draft pick in Joe Thomas, we have a pretty solid starting O-Line for the 2007-08 season.

D-Line would be our next priority and there are enough DL prospects out there to be alright with picking one up in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. And if we're still bent out of shape with our OL, we can still pick up an OG in the 2nd or 3rd round too. If we have a chance to fix a portion of our team FULLY (OL) then why not do it and get it out of the way. Turn the weakness of our team into it's strength.

That, IMO we need D-linemen and a RB (if Rueben is truely gone) above any other position. I am of course assuming we have drafted joe Thomas

It had detailed reasoning however I am too irritated with the IE to re-type it.

I don't think we'll take Adrian Peterson like most people think. I think one of 3 things will happen:

1. Detroit takes Joe Thomas, so we take Brady Quinn
2. Detroit takes Brady Quinn, so we take Joe Thomas
3. (Best case scenario if Detroit takes Thomas) Detroit takes Joe Thomas, we take Calvin Johnson, and we force Tampa to take Brady Quinn, and give up a boatload for the rights to Johnson, in which turn we'd end up getting Quinn, plus some picks.

I can see a situaion where we outright take someone like Alan Branch. Phil, shock me once shame on you, shock me twice, shame on me.

Don't get me wrong, i think it will be Thomas or Quinn, but Phil is a shifty lillte guy.

I would not be surprised at all if Phil shocked everyone and took someone slightly off radar, like last year with the whole DT tackle thing, Nagata, Bunkley....this year it's Peterson and Thomas....

Alan Branch at #3? Nah, I can't see that happening. If we end up trading down to #7, sure.

There's a big difference between drafting in the 3-hole vs drafting #12 (particularly this year). The top 5 guys tend to be pretty tightly defined (different teams may have them in slightly different order, but the same five probably are listed as such). Once you get outside the top 5, I think the perceived value of the remaining players gets blurred more quickly as you go down the line.

Since we ARE picking third this year, I think Phil will stick to his top 5 board which probably doesn't look a whole lot different than any other team's top 5 board. I would be surprised if any team has Branch in their top 5 (including the Browns). Now if he gets a deal he can't refuse to trade down, all bets are off.

See I think that the top board is subjective. Alan Branch was penciled in as our #3 in a ton of mock drafts.

He had a very good combine, and he slides down?

Now with all of this trading Charlies Frye nonsense, and with us shopping Droughns, it does look less and less likely but I am saying don't be shocked.

The Broncos filled one of their biggest offseason needs today, agreeing to terms with running back Travis Henry.

Henry, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, agreed to a five-year deal believed to be worth about $12 million guaranteed.

Denver found itself in need of a running back after shipping Tatum Bell to Detroit last week in the package for cornerback Dre' Bly. Mike Bell and Cedric Cobb got playing time last season, and Cecil Sapp, primarily a fullback, might get some looks at running back in training camp.
