Uhhhh....Jake Taylor, the catcher from Major League? He's not even real man.

...breaking away from the jokes, anybody want to guess which Choo we get back next week?
The 2008-2010 hitter that hit .300, 20 HR and 90 RBI with a rocket arm in RF guy
OR
The stinking mass of junk that we saw in 2011
I'm wondering if the injury might be a blessing in disguise. He started off cold, fell deeper in the slump and then got the DUI. Maybe a few months off from baseball will clear his head and get him re-focused on the game.

considering he is coming back from a thumb injury that was recently described as mangled. and that was considered a huge progress from what it looked like a month ago.
hmm, i'm not expecting much out of Choo this year (sadly)

I’m going to come right out and say it. “We have an okay chance at beating Verlander tomorrow.”
It’s not like he has been untouchable. Here are the runs he has allowed in his last few starts:
Aug6 vs. KC – 3 (7IP) Jul31 vs. Ana – 2 (8IP – both unearned but the error was his and he completely melted down after losing his no-hit bid) Jul26 vs. ChiW – 4 (8IP) Jul21 vs. Minn – 1 (8IP) Jul15 vs. ChiW – 5 (6IP)
Here’s Carmona’s last 5 starts for comparison:
Aug6 vs. TX – 4 (6.1IP) Jul31 vs. KC – 4 (7IP) Jul25 vs. Ana – 0 (6IP) Jul17 vs. Minn – 2 (6IP) Jul02 vs. Cin – 0 (2IP)
Is Verlander a better pitcher than Carmona? Of course.
Should Detroit be favored in that game? Of course.
Has Verlander been untouchable lately? Not at all.
Have we seen the Indians blow better pitching performances than what is listed above for Verlander? Regularly.
Is it a foregone conclusion that Verlander will win game3 of this series? It shouldn’t be.

i hope this is the start of the tribe gettin on a roll. they gotta start playin above .500 baseball again. seriously, watching detroit? this team isn't better than the tribe like most experts say. I think the tribe can take this division.
as far as ubaldo goes, i was not a big fan of the trade, because they gave up pomeranz, but i am gonna give ubaldo more than 2 starts to really judge him. He has pitched well tonight though. You can see with the stuff he has that he has ace capability. he just has to put it together.
although i guess you can say the same with fausto, fausto doesn't have the pitches ubaldo has, but he has great stuff and hasn't put it together.
wow, kipnis is 5 for 5, kid is unreal.

We didn't pick up Jimenez for his pitching, we traded for him to improve our offense. And it is working. We are averaging 8 and 1/2 runs in games he starts.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

The Tigers will turn to Verlander (16-5) in Thursday's series finale against RHP Fausto Carmona (5-11)
Verlander is having a Cy Young-caliber season, but is just 11-11 with a 4.82 ERA in his career against Cleveland. Most of that success has been in Detroit.
At Progressive Field, Verlander is only 4-8 with a 6.31 ERA in 13 starts.

JC Gotta love that Manny Acta referred to Kipnis as a "dirtbag", which is a compliment in baseball describing a hustling, winning ballplayer. I have to say, he looks like the real deal - reminds me of Chase Utley.
Jason "Dirtbag" Kipnis. I like it.

Yeah, Kipnis started off a little slow (2 hits in his 1st 7 games) ..... but he's been dynamite since.
I'm glad that he was brought up so that he can start getting used to the Majors. It's funny, but I thought that Chisenhall was well ahead of Kipnis, but it appears that Kipnis has made a better initial adjustment to the Majors.
I do suspect that our other youngster, Carrera, will be the odd man out when Choo comes back. Yeah ... I suspect that Austin Kearnes, he of the .200 batting average, will again, somehow, manage to avoid the chopping block.

I noticed that Acta pulled Duncan out of LF in the 9th, in favor of Kearns, so its fair to say they like Kearns' defense better than Duncan's. Duncan was a little slow to get to Cabrera's bloop double, actually got the heel of his glove on it, but couldn't make the catch. I think a lot depends on how serious Brantley's wrist injury is. Carrera is here as long as Brantley is hurt, Fukodome will probably move to LF when Choo comes back and platoon with Duncan or Kearns. In that scenario, I think Kearns get released, because you'll have Fukodome as a late inning defensive replacement in games Duncan starts.

hey, we won the Detroit series. now, let's take Verlander down a couple notches and make this thing a 1 game division.

I liked the lineup from last night. Marson catching, Santana at first ... Laporta and Kearns on the bench.

That's like say the being burnt at the stake is better then impalement.
I see no way how Kearns can stay when Choo comes back. Zeke is better defensively. Duncan is a better hitter. If you are seriously pushing for a playoff spot, a questionable defensive outfielder hitting .200 with 7 rbi on the years cannot be on the team when there are younger, better, alternatives already here.
But I'm sure your right, he'll stick around.

if Zeke is sent down, then he can be brought back up Sept 1st. Kearns would be waived (not that anyone would pick him up). I prefer ridding the team of Kearns as well, but I don't see it happening this late in the year. we've survived him this long (despite having all 3 of our OFs currently injured), we can survive him the season. it's sort of like putting a handicap on the team. not only did you win the division, but you did so with Kearns on your roster the whole year

We should get bonus runs to start playoff games for that.
