Really wanted the Browns to take a look at him. I guess they're confident with Haden, Brown, and Skrine?

Panthers have interest in Carlos Rogers
Posted by Mike Florio on July 31, 2011, 10:51 PM EDT

The Panthers have spent plenty of money in the early days of free agency. And they could be spending some more.

Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette reports that the Panthers are interested in free-agent cornerback Carlos Rogers.

Rogers, the ninth overall pick in the 2005 draft, has spent his entire career with the Redskins. He expressed frustration in May regarding the perception that he’s the No. 2 corner, behind DeAngelo Hall.

In Carolina, Rogers would fill the void created when Richard Marshall took a one-year deal with the Cardinals.

Tim Hightower is a kid, depending on how many RB we take into the season, who could be interesting.

He's a nice runner, and an excellent pass receiver. He had 34 receptions in 2008, and 63 receptions in 2009, but fell off to only 21 last year with DA at the helm. He averaged 4.8 yards/carry and gained 736 yards on the ground.

He's a 6' 220# RB, so he has good size. I would definitely look at bringing him in if I were in charge.

I had Tim Hightower on my FA wish list too, but with the Brandon Jackson signing I don't see us bringing in another Vet. unless of coarse dare I say an injury

The New York Giants have given permission to the agent of Osi Umenyiora to work out a trade for the two-time Pro Bowl defensive end, a league source told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

The Giants want a first-round pick in exchange for Umenyiora, who continues to be unhappy with his contract status even after a meeting with team officials over the weekend, the source said.

Obviously I wouldn't give up a first rounder for a 30-year-old anything. But that price comes down to a third rounder I'd be all over that.

make it a 1st rounder if we win the superbowl, 2nd rounder if we make the playoffs and 3rd rounder if we don't.

i'd be all over that (though, yes we could win the superbowl with Osi on the IR, but really I'm willing to take on that risk )

no way Osi gets a 1st round pick... at best a 3rd rounder.

I think it'll likely end up being a 4th rounder that can slide to a 2nd dependent on Osi and team success.

But, with as good as the Falcons look to be, one of our 1st rounders might as well be a 2nd rounder (I'd take the Falcons over the Eagles or Packers if I could only place 1 bet on a NFC team).

Does anyone think that Tatupo would be a guy we'd go after?

I would snag him, but DQ is set at MLB... no one is getting his spot. I would like him as an OLB over Gocong though.

I think HotB is saying that not necessarly because he believes it, but because the coach and others in the media (Cabot) have been saying it as well..

I'm not completely certain that anyone outside of Rubin, Fujita, Ward and Haden have an absolute lock on a job.

I realize it probably will not happen, but I would like to think there is a possibility that the Browns would go for Samuel. The Browns do seem to have a history of dealing with the Eagles

Eagles CB Samuel reporting to camp Monday

By Jason La Canfora | Published: August 1st, 2011 | Tags: Asante Samuel, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin, Kevin Kolb, Nnamdi Asomugha, Vince Young

With his future in Philadelphia in question, CB Asante Samuel will report to the Eagles’ training camp Monday, according to a league source. As the dust settles on a go-for-broke spree that saw Philly snatch up CB Nnamdi Asomugha and acquire CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the Kevin Kolb trade, Samuel appears to be the odd man out. With three Pro Bowl cornerbacks on their roster, the NFL’s new “Dream Team” holds the chips in a potential trade. Samuel, who has 42 interceptions in eight years, was excused from training camp at Lehigh University the first two days.

I think that the WIL LBer position is wide open, unless we sign someone else my money is on Maiava.

Didn't see this anywhere. Vonta Leach is the best fullback in the NFL and is now in our division.

My hopes are high for Maiava. And they have been pretty high since we drafted him. When coming out of college I thought he was the second best of all the USC linebackers that year (Matthews, Cushing, Maualuga). It seems like he could thrive in this new defense.

and his old team the Texan's are said to be in conversation with our old buddy Lawrence Vickers.
The Ravens also might lose a pretty good FB (Le'Ron McClain). unofficially to the Cheifs.

Looks like Randy Moss is out of the picture. Per ESPN, he's decided to retire.

What's really amazing.. especially given how high most of on here were on him, but I've not heard much about Vickers except that his agent is contacting Leachs former team..

Didn't his agent say Moss was in freakish shape just last week? Sad to see the guy end his career on a bad note.

Tatupu is coming off of double knee surgery in the off season. The Hawks tried to get him to restructure..guess he didnt like that idea.

At any rate...it would depend on how healthy his knees are...

I would definitely give up a 2nd rd pick for Osi. It's not like this guy is 35. He probably has 3-4 years of good football left. His last 3 years he's averaged over 10 sacks, and hasn't missed any time the past few seasons. People always overvalue draft picks. Most of the rookies that come into the league will never be as good as Osi has been in his career. With that extra pick from atlanta, I would not care if we gave up a 2nd to land him.

I agree in theory, but when dealing with a pick after the season, I don't see much reason not to put some type of restriction on it.

perhaps it could be as simple as: 3rd round pick unless Osi plays 12 games, then it becomes a 2nd round pick

but, something to protect the investment is always a wise move.

Funny thing is I just went through his Hometown on my way to Myrtle Beach. Forget the name of the city but under it reads "Hometown of Vonta Leach".

Latest Browns RapidReports

Aug. 01, 2011 4:55 p.m. - by Nick Eatman - Cowboys, S Elam make little headway
While free-agent FS Abram Elam has hinted through twitter that he’s interested in joining the Cowboys and DC Rob Ryan, who coached him last year in Cleveland, there seemingly hasn’t been any headway in the talks. Owner/GM Jerry Jones said Sunday the price tags for available safeties have been too high. Cowboys RapidReports
