I'm glad for the guy. He didn't work out here, but he was a class act.

Kamerion Wimbley won’t play on the franchise tag this season. That’s because the Raiders gave the linebacker a five-year, $48 million deal, a league source said Monday, with $29 million of it guaranteed.

The Raiders acquired Wimbley from the Browns last year in exchange for a 2010 third-round draft pick, then reaped the benefits. Wimbley started 16 games and recorded nine sacks, bringing his career total to 35.5 in five seasons.

I'm Glad to hear he got a long term deal. Thanks

I agree. He was miscast in the 3-4, but would have fit right in now. Oh well. Like I said, glad he got a good deal.

He's been playing linebacker for the Raiders... People seem to forget that Wimbley lost the ability to pass rush here. He's done well blitzing from the 4-3 linebacker spot. He wouldn't be having success as a DE.

And Al Davis is insane. Wimbley isn't worth anything near that.

I wasn't aware he was playing LB. Thank god you're around, Deep, to impart your wisdom.

And as if we needed any reminding of that.

This guy was selected 23rd, so maybe this will get some movement for Taylor.

I try to share my genius whenever I can.

But I also wish Wimbley well. He is a good guy and a hard worker from what I've seen and heard.

He has been at DE Deep. Maybe you saw him drop back in a zone blitz or something.

I have a feeling he'll be in camp tomorrow... can't imagine he would hold out too long...

Braylon Edwards has another brush with the law

Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2011, 10:24 PM EDT

Free-agent receiver Braylon Edwards, not far removed from pleading guilty to DUI and having his probation in Cleveland for an assault charge extended, nearly got himself into another jam in Michigan early Monday.

According to FOX 2 in Detroit, two people in Edwards’ entourage were arrested after allegedly assaulting employees at a Birmingham bar.

Per the report, Edwards’ friends got into an argument with the employees. The dispute made its way into the kitchen, and one employee was “sliced with a knife.” The wound required 14 stitches to close. Another employee allegedly was attacked with a fork. (Alas, the Placesetting Trifecta was not completed, possibly because Braylon dropped the spoon.)

Edwards reportedly posted the following on Twitter at about the same time: “Damn. Get ya knuckles ready” and “Don’t fight if. You don’t know how.”

Curiously, Edwards recently posted the following message: “Yo…Lost my phone last night someone sent tweets. Deleted them and changed my password. Sorry for the mishap hopefully never happens again!” (We’d like to think that, if someone found Edwards’ phone and realized they had access to his Twitter page, they would have been a lot more creative than “Damn. Get ya knuckles ready” and “Don’t fight if. You don’t know how.”)

Edwards wasn’t arrested and he faces no charges. However, the fact that he was present when the incident went down possibly could become an issue regarding his probation in Cleveland.

It also could take any remaining air out of the market for Edwards’ services.

Man ... I see things eventually ending very badly for Mr Edwards.

I hope that I'm wrong ..... because I would never wish that on anyone ..... but the path seems pretty well walked in.

I can't believe there were some on here that wanted this guy.

So much for second chances.

What an idiot.

I don't feel sorry for him. If he never plays another down, he should still be set for life. Cracks me up when these guys are broke two years after their career ends.

I know if I had the opportunity to work 4-10 years at 1+million a year. I'd be just fine. The average person earns between like 1.2 - 4 million in their lifetime.

Edwards could have been great. He just can't get past himself. AND he needs to lose the posse.

, Funny the guy that picked up his phone the night before, uses the same vernacular as Braylon.

This is why tweets aren't allowed as a source, never know when a legitimate tweeter might "lose" his phone.

He sure seems to be on a downward shame spiral doesn't he.. so much talent wasted because he's missing something between his ears...

If one of those guys is a convicted felon Edwards is in serious trouble.

he should have gone with the trusty line that one of his friends put up those messages. not that he lost his phone and someone happened to post messages that parlayed directly into the context of what was going on with him at the same time

anyway, this won't get him into any more trouble if he didn't actually get involved (which seems like it was the case). he is just asking for trouble if he is going out drinking with friends that are willing to start (or at least join in) things like this though.

Like someone else said, though, if one of the guys that Edwards was hanging with was a convicted felon, he could have some issues with his probation.

Can't believe Edwards would be hanging around in bars with shady people late at night during such a crucial period of his career.

Anyone think he'll suit up for an NFL team this year?

If the team you were on, that you lead in receiving yards, would rather sign a 30-somethingy year old who has been in jail for 2 years for shooting himself in the leg, than you...

...Maybe it's time to look in the mirror...

it's also why you don't see NFL players loafing as much as some of the NBA guys

it's all negotiating tactics. he'll get big money from someone; be it NYG or a trade. either way, he gets to skip some of training camp, which I am sure he doesn't mind either.

You make a great point.

I know this is just nit-picking, but several times I hear people say that Plexico was in jail for shooting himself. He was not. He was in jail for taking a firearm into a bar. Shooting himself was how he got caught with the firearm in the bar.

Yeah I know, but "He went to jail for gun possesion" doesn't begin to delve into the depths of how ridiculous the whole situation is...

And not to get all political, but I love/hate the fact that...

Dogfighting = two years
Gun Possesion = two years
Vehicular Manslaughter = 30 months house arrest and probation...

I'll be curious to how he does next season once the tackles in the division get used to his single, dip the shoulder speed rush.

I liked Wimbley and thought he was decent. Was just frustrating that he never developed further as a pass rusher.

And not to get all technical, but this might be a tad more accurate...

Running an illegal gambling ring related to dogfighting = two years
Illegal Concealed Carrying of a loaded gun in a NYC club = two years
Vehicular Manslaughter where the victim jumped a barrier, jaywalked across a highway and the prosecution didn't think they could get a conviction on the grounds that the driver was at total fault of the accident (drunk or not) = 30 months house arrest and probation

Spin? Nah. Details....yes.

Vick didn't get most of the jail time for what he did to the dogs...it was the illegal gambling ring he was fronting.

Plax didn't go to prision for shooting himself as stated above.

And Stallworth didn't go to prision because the lawyers for the prosecution, who know 4,000,000 times more than I do about Florida driving laws and other legal precedents, felt they couldn't get a conviction with the facts they had.

If you wrote up a "Dogfighter gets 2 years, other guy shoots himself gets 2 years & a Miami drunk driver kills a guy gets probation" headline on USA Today you'd get a ton of reaction...but the devil is in the details. Each case isn't black and white. And money isn't always going to save you. Vick and Plax had money and great lawyers, they still went to jail.
