Never played up to his draft status, it's not like we're losing a Pro Bowler here. It just means other guys will get opportunities.

Not really. Guy didn't want to report to Cleveland, no problem.

We could have played hard ball, but it would have still cost us a 5th round pick next April.

The fact that he could become a FA after this season could have been a deciding factor.

Ok, I have a question. Does this count as the Broncos acquiring yet another former Browns DL

It says a lot about the perception of your franchise around the league when a busted first round pick refuses to play for you. Especially if he does report to Denver.

There's no point in worrying about how other team's fans perceive us. We all know Cleveland is not an attractive destination for a lot of guys right now... only winning will change that. If the guy doesn't wanna be a Brown, then good riddance (even though he was never actually in Cleveland ) .

I'm glad the owners and players worked things out. I was starting to miss the pessimism. You guys crack me up.

Though I guess it is easier to set your expectations low.

Well, in some ways it is.

Anytime you have a player refuse to report, it tells you something.....and it isn't good.

Yeah, who cares...The guy is a borderline bust anyway. I read he wanted a chance to start..LOL How bad must Denver's line be? Also, the guy is built of Muscle but he must have the Confidence of a 6 year old if he doesn't think he can Crack our rotation...

I'm not talking about how other teams' fans perceive the Browns. I'm talking about how players who we may be interested in signing perceive us. Although I forgot, here in Cleveland we only build through the draft anyways. You're right...doesn't matter.

Winning will change that. Guess what we haven't done in over a decade?

Built through the draft? Not signed big FAs who end up having very little impact?

Yeah... but maybe he thought he'd start in Denver. Or maybe his wife/mistress is from there. He's a backup D-lineman, who really gives a damn if he doesn't want to play in Cleveland?

Guarantee that winning will change things...

If that's what it was, then yeah, it kinda says that. But frankly, I don't care. It's not like he is a top flight DLineman,...

I'd be less bothered if it was a top-flight player. Elite guy doesn't want to come to a bad team? That's understandable. He's good and he has a limited window of opportunity.

Guy who is mediocre and was probably going to be cut doesn't want to play for you? Bad, man...really bad.

Anyone who thinks that players around the league don't take notice of this type of thing is nuts.

No, but it's his loss.
The Denver franchise is a mess if you ask me.
They have a RB imposing as a QB

Multiple sources are reporting that 2006 Round 1 pick Brodrick Bunkley, whom the Eagles had said was traded to Cleveland Saturday, instead has been swapped to the Broncos.

General Manager Tom Heckert told us at 2:30 that he had “nothing to say” about Bunkley’s fate, but he seemed a bit flummoxed by the whole thing.

Heckert encouraged the people in our room to “talk to Philadelphia” about why a deal might have fallen apart.

Bunkley coming here never made sense on this level: Even though he didn’t start (aside from five games) for the 2010 Eagles, he had been a starter in three of the other four years since Heckert drafted him at No. 14 overall in 2006.

That was Tom’s first year as GM of the Eagles after he held a lesser title for several years.

Bunkley didn’t make sense because Heckert this year spent a No. 21 overall pick on DT Phil Taylor, while the best defensive lineman coming back from last year, Ahtyba Rubin, also deserves to start at tackle.

Someone was going to be unhappy if Taylor, Rubin and Bunkley all wound up in the tackle pool.

The Browns are back to searching for line depth and trying to get the holdout, Tayl;or, signed.

Neither Heckert nor Pat Shurmur has consented to talk about the Bunkley trade.

We did get Shurmur to say this about Rubin today, as to fitting in the 4-3 after spending three years in a 3-4:

“He’s done a good job. He’s pretty comfortable where we put him. Looks like he’s getting a pretty good feel for how we want him to play.

“There’s times it will be on the center and a majority of the time he’ll be playing on the guard.”

Doesn’t tell you a whole lot, I guess. But here’s what there is to tell about Bunkley’s role with the Browns: Zero, zip, nada.

The Twittersphere above eastern Pennsylvania has it that the deal fell through for reasons more complex than Bunkley griping about a deal.

We’ll keep our antenna up for damage that may factor into future trade talks with the Eagles. Heckert owes a lot to Andy Reid. We can only guess whether he feels ill used by his old mentor, Andy Reid.

• • •

Eagles GM Howie Roseman told philly.com:
“I think that (Bunkley) enjoyed it a lot here and, I think, part of the reason (Bunkley railed against a trade to Cleveland) was that this all shocked him. He’s a first-round pick (No. 14 overall in 2006). I think he thought he’d be here his whole career. I think he likes kind of the energy that’s going on around here.”
Roseman confirmed the trade, saying Denver will give up a conditional 2013 pick.

Since Heckert has chosen to not speak on the subject, then I guess all we know is what Roseman had to say and so I guess my original thought that he might not want to come here is substantiated by Roseman's press'er here.

It sounds to me like we might have only had him for a year anyways if this is the way he felt about coming here.

Right. I was just going to say that Mary Kay Cabot has said that he did show and something went wrong with his physical.

My bet is that he was overweight and out of shape.

Physical is what I'm thinking too...

Is Reid trying to dump KNOWN damaged goods???...He had the elbow last year...Love to see him fail the physical in Denver too...

May very well be why Heckert said "Check with Philly"...

Screw u Reid...

Well I thinkw e can believe either he truly failed his physical... or he didn't want to come here and the browns are using the physical as an excuse to let him get out of the trade...

either way I think he was a beast but doesn't look like in the end he was the best fit... unfortunately I think this could have been a great pick up.... so we still need DL and CB help...

If the Browns turned him away for medical reasons, certainly not, unless that medical reason was "he didn't take his physical".

My line of thinking is along Jaybird's.

How do you give a guy a physical if he fails to show.

some one is not telling the truth.

So he can't pass ours, but he passes his physical in Denver

Apparently he did show, but something during his physical didn't check out (guessing elbow) and we either rejected him, or asked philly for a diff compensation to be sent (guessing 6th, etc). Either way the trade was deemed null and void and he isn't here. Moving on.

Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital.

J/C Is it because he'll probably start in Denver, vs play behind Taylor and Rubin? I mean he could look at it as "Cleveland sucks, but I could probably start elsewhere."

There were reports that he was in camp at one point.

Then Sheldon Brown described him as "One big muscle".

Must have been a tear in that big muscle or something ... because it sure sounds like something medical to me.

He's had injury problems. I can't believe he was overweight considering how jacked he has always been. There isn't a DT more put together.

I didn't see that he passed a physical in Denver?

Or, if he did, maybe our doctors were more stringent?

Or maybe they traded him to Denver for a conditional pick (ours wasn't conditional) and that allowed them to take a chance we weren't willing to.

If the worst is true, and free agents are jumping through hoops to NOT come here to play, that really sucks.

That's also something that can be fixed pretty quickly. Put together consecutive seasons of forward progress, and everyone (fans, media, players) will forget about your much longer history of ineptitude.

We need to start digging out of this hole ourselves.
