I might be completely wrong on this ... but does anyone else think the Eagles are going to have to blow up their team within a year or two? It just seems like all of these big name free agents they are brining in will hurt them financially ... especially when Vick AND DeSean need to be paid now ... and that's not even counting their year to year free agents who will want money soon ...

well, we'll see but it sure appears that it could happen that way. Thats what every team that has spluged in an attempt to win it all.. within a year or two, they gotta tear it down and start over.

But sooner of later they'll have to ante up. Say they don't win a SB this year or next.... and still have some hope for a title, feeling the pressure to re-sign guys... might not be good on the bottom line. BTW, I can't root for them because of Vick. I'd just as soon root for the Cowboys.
Isn't Steve Smith coming off of fairly serious knee surgery?
Anyway ... since someone added their Super Bowl picks .... I see New England winning another.

The only new guy that is making any guaranteed money past this for the Eagles is Asomugha. Even Vick is only on the hook for money this year. If some guys don't perform well they can be cut with no repercussions following the season. They are obviously going for it this year, as they should because you don't know how long Vick will hold up (although Vince Young is a really good backup and should be even better while learning in that Eagles system, he is 30-17 as a starter in his career).
what did NE do to fix their defense? a couple old DL to replace the old DL they let go? their pass rush and pass defense was subpar last year and did them in. maybe they get better, but I don't see the improvement yet.
they'll win their division sure, but I'm really hoping someone steps up to knock off Pitt or Balt because NE, NYJ, and Indy all seemed to take small steps backward (do I really need to put my hope in KC? that's scary).
My pats fan cubicle neighbor said they're going to be running more 4-3 this year. This takes one of their lesser LBs off the field and makes two of the old guys they acquired (Haynesworth and Warren re-sign) more valuable.
ok, I can see that (they ran a bunch of 4-3 last year as well).
But, then who is getting to the QB? Haynesworth, Warren, and Ellis are all really DTs in the 4-3 and who knows if Albert can still cause issues in the middle like he did that one year for Tenn.
They are stuck in a tough situation because I think no matter what they will struggle to get to the QB. I hope I'm wrong because if they can then they are the best bet in the AFC to beat Pitt.
I suspect that Haynesworth will wind up with 12 or more sacks this year.
I'm not quite ready to put money on it ...... but I'm close.

huh? he wanted a multi-year deal but no teams came knocking so he gave up and accepted a 1year deal to a 4-3 team (which is exactly what he didn't want when he started the process).

I thought that everywhere I read, $3 mil was exactly what he was wanting and the majority said it was a pipe-dream. Maybe not . . .
So he got the money he wanted but is in a system he doesn't like and doesn't suit him. Seems like if you have to take a one year deal you would try and get in the ideal situation and try and cash in the next off-season. Oh well, Roth never seemed like the brightest guy.

I actually think he fits the 4-3 better, but he said he didn't want ot play in a 4-3 so it is a bit confusing that he signed with them.
i think you're right, and his argument was how much they would line him up as a DE in sub packages, even though his "natural" position with them is OLB (at least in their base 3-4)

I have to go against dogma and Roth's personal opinion of himself here and state that I think Roth is better off at DE then at OLBer in a 34.
He is too slow and like a fish out of water in coverage.
Bills | Open to trading Lee Evans Thu, 11 Aug 2011 16:28:58 -0700
The Buffalo Bills are open to the possibility of trading WR Lee Evans. Evans said he has not asked general manager Buddy Nix or head coach Chan Gailey for a trade.
I've known Buddy since he was head coach at UTC and have played golf with him several dozen times....and he always played better then his handicap.....hello???
Buddy come's across as a bumpkin, but don't let that fool you....he is sharp as a whip and he knows football.
I'd say if Buddy is willing to trade Evans, Evans is out of gas, or pretty dern close as Buddy would say.
Here's Buddy. He makes Southerners wonder where he learned to talk like that??:
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
