Speaking of hits..I went back to watch the Ward hit on Shipley and came across his highlight video. Wow...I forgot about some of his hits and plays..I think in a short time he will be the best safety in our division. I also noticed Sheldon Brown had very good coverage on a lot of plays and reinforced that Eric Wright was Awful..watching him give a half hearted effort by a waving arm tackle on Mendenhall..

Again....its a DT's job to get to the QB....if he comes in late from time to time---I would take it....Sure, the company line would always be about being more cognizant of where the ball is.....where QB released it...
But behind team doors....I am all for that kind of agression. In this league, a quarterback who is able to sta comfortable in teh pocket can pick you apart. If you are tossing these QB's around like rag-dolls, its going to get to them. You can bet other QB's will see this, and Suh is going to be a guy that they are going to be thinking about...
And the reality is....that is this guys job...Hit the QB, get in his head.....knock him down everytime you can...sometimes you get away with it---sometimes you don't....
I am want my DT's mean...I want other teams QB's dreading having to play against our defensive line---you can bet that Ndumukong Suh is on the radar of every QB n the league---and plays like this just drive home the point--this man wants to hurt you.....
While I'm ok on a borderline rough/late hit (not a cheap shot) to establish a physical nature, repeated penalties like that are just stupid. I agree that I want their QB to feel pressure and take some shots (legal, physical play), the goal shouldn't be to hurt/injure the opponent
People like James Harrison think that physical play means injuring others, and it does not. John Teerlinck is another that comes to mind as he was thought to have taught players to go for QB's knees to take them out of the game
Quote: Are we sure he can't just play with only one leg?
Dude might be dirty but he is also already a top five defensive linemen in the league. If he was on our team no one would think he is dirty, just "playing hard". (For example, T.J. Ward's hit on Shipley last year)
Bull,, Ward didn't grab Shipleys head and try to twist it off..
And I can damn well tell you that if we had Suh here and pulled that on another teams QB, I'd lobby for his instant banning by the league..
This game is violent enough without some arse doing stuff like that..

I think he was talking about Suh twisting at the head, as he is very blatant in trying to body-slam the qb in both the Cinci hit last night and the Delhomme hit last pre-season. Suh will get his due punishment I'm sure
Quote: Maybe I was wrong. But I definitely wouldn't mind having Suh on my team, even with a few 15 yarders every once in awhile.
So you don't mind having a thug on your team? Sorry, I don't agree with you.
his actions are unsportsmanlike.. at some point, the league is going to have to make a decision on him.. and if the last two clips are indicative of his actions, he's gonna have to be gone..
The league can't sit there and say,, we gotta move the KO line up 5 yards because of injury concerns, then let this punk continue his act.
Sooner or later, he's either gonna clean up his act, or get bounced out of the league..

It's called Sportsmanship. Once you crossed that line, then it's something else, a different animal.
Most of the players play within the rules, because you don't want to have your career threaten by a blatant dirty hit. Their all in the same boat. Well most anyway.
Suh, looks like he is still going to test that line.
And I doubt that we have seen the last of James Harrison (Hines Ward) going over the line too.

I'm sure we'll see more of their thug-style play, but you can bet that Goodell has found his guy to make an example of. Suh will be next I'm sure, and I bet fines are just the beginning. When guys start getting suspended for some games, they'll prob start to get the idea

I don't think Goodell backs down, because of all the rhetoric out of the Pittsburgh.

Of course he's on QBs' radars...as a guy who has no qualms with playing outside the established rules of the game in an attempt to maim them. But these guys are all professional athletes, and they'll police themselves. If he keeps on doling out cheap hits, he's going to take a cheap hit. Some Olinemen will go high-low on him and put him out for a while, and that will be the end of that.
And notice, he didn't go cheap-shop punk and grab him by the head to twist him down. Joe just picked up his body from the mid-section and flipped him over his own head.
I don't see Chad getting cut... Haynesworth would not surprise me one bit to be cut.... but Chad I don't see going anywhere... he still has some left in the tank and I think has a good relationship with Belichick
Everyone knew time was short for Aaron Maybin to revive his fledgling NFL career in Buffalo's 2011 training camp. The time may have proven to be shorter than anyone anticipated. Maybin was waived by the Bills on Monday, two days after the team's first preseason contest.
Bills head coach Chan Gailey had said time and again that Maybin had to get stronger, play more consistently and be more productive. Gailey's commentary on the pass rushing linebacker often ended with "he has a long way to go."
Gailey inherited Maybin as a player who was taken in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft, a year prior to Gailey's arrival. From the time he was a rookie getting on the field for measurable playing time proved difficult as evidence by his 24 career tackles in 27 games.
Coming into this year's training camp Maybin curiously weighed the lightest he ever has (228 pounds) at the start of the season and was often overpowered at the line of scrimmage in practices.
The past week of camp he had become more noticeable with a fumble recovery, sack and quarterback pressure, but the consistency evidently was not enough to convince the Bills to hold onto him.
In Saturday's preseason opener, Maybin saw an extended period of playing time through the second and third quarters, but registered just a single tackle and at times found it difficult to hold his ground.
Buffalo's defensive staff will move forward with some of their own hand-picked prospects like Antonio Coleman and 2010 sixth-round pick Danny Batten, who logged a pair of sacks in Saturday's game at Chicago.
The promising start to the 2011 campaign by Shawne Merriman (2 sacks in nine plays) likely played a factor in Buffalo's release of Maybin as well.
Redskins running back James Davis has abruptly left training camp, without telling anyone where he was going.
Coach Mike Shanahan is asking anyone who knows where Davis is to let the Redskins know.
“If you see him, let me know because I’m wondering where he was at, too,” Shanahan said. “Missing in action.”
ESPN 980 reported that Davis left after getting into an argument with a coach about playing time. Davis did not get on the field for the team’s preseason opener against the Steelers.
Davis probably wasn’t going to make the team anyway, as he was fifth on the depth chart at running back.
A sixth-round draft pick of the Browns in 2009, Davis played in six games over two seasons for the Browns, then played in three games for the Redskins after the Browns cut him during the 2010 season.
I hope our coaches at least look at the guy .... he might not be the talent everyone dreamed of ... but a lot of players struggle to make the transition from 4-3de to 3-4 olb ...
The guy is still only 23 years old ... he trains with Lavar arrington ... I am confident he could be at LEAST as good as the rest of our undrafted free agents or camp scrubs ... worst that happens? We cut him in 2 weeks. Best that happens? He lives up to his first round potential and becomes a sack machine.
Most likely? He could be a rotational player that could provide depth. Only thing that concerns me is if his weight is as low as some people say it is ... but maybe he becomes a hybrid and special teams player as well?
I'm intrigued to say the least.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."
If he was a first round talent as a 4-3 DE, then I'd definitely try to get him on waivers. If he went that high based solely upon him projecting as a 3-4 tweener, however, then I'd skip the waiver claim and see about a tryout if he hits the street.
If nothing else, we definitely do NOT have such an overabundance of talent to preclude us from looking at him.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
I forgot to add the part about the guy who drafted Maybin in the first place ... his name was Jauron. So I suppose if HE liked him then we would have a good shot of bringing him in?
And I'm not even 100% on the Maybin bandwagon ... I am on the bandwagon that says "23 year old defensive end ... where we have a lot of questions."

He hasn't recorded a single sack in his career.
I guess he could get better, but he has shown nothing so far, and has been reported to weigh in the 215 -225lbs range. No way he fits in at DE, and he has never played LB in a 4-3.

Yeah, I agree completely. Once again, like you said, worst that happens is he's camp fodder.

He was drafted as a 4-3 end, and failed, then failed to transition into a 3-4 OLB.
Right .. and he played on a buffalo team that is 10-22 over the last two years ... who has switched back and forth from a 4-3 to a 3-4 to a 4-3 again ...
Who just saw the likes of Whitner and Posluzny leave despite those being 2 decent players ... no-one has had even 6 sacks on their team in 2010 Schobel had 10 sacks in 2009 ... the rest of the team combined for 21 ....
Basically they are a pretty bad defense. That doesn't mean there isn't good players or potential on that defense. And nothing I have seen on him reported him lower than 230. That's not a lot smaller than Maiva is. It's also not that hard to put on a little bit of weight if you are motivated. Heck ... Bernard put on close to 25 this offseason .. I'm sure Maybin could add 10 in a month or two. Plus - we wouldn't need him to be a star. Just a contributor looking to log snaps and give effort.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."
Hmmm.... drafted as a 4-3 DE and couldn't barely get on the field? Not a good sign. Then again, who was in front of him? It can't be a skill thing... is it work ethic? Does anybody know anything about this guy??
Browns is the Browns

Yeah I remember seeing him a few times at penn state. I know he trains with Lavar Arrington... and he's only 23. I think he has potential. That is obviously just an opinion.
He was a 4-3 d-end. Jauron drafted him to be a 4-3 end in the system that we (more or less) run now. He was drafted one spot behind Crabtree... and because of that his deal didn't get done for a while. (They were waiting on Crabtree's final numbers). So he doesn't show up to camp until 4 weeks into camp. Makes sense he got off to a slow start.
Fast forward 4 months and Chan Gailey switches them from a 4-3 to a 3-4 ... and he becomes a 3-4 OLB overnight. Obviously it didn't work for him.
But PERSONALLY (and I know this is opinion) it doesn't make sense to give up on him so quickly considering the circumstances ...
That would be like cutting Robiskie this past offseason because he hadn't scored a TD in his first 20 games or so. Maybe it's the player but maybe it's the system and some other factors?
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."

Look a little harder,it was in BF79's article. 230lb DE's don't last long, and if the team wants a LB,go get a LB.I hope the wasted days of trying to convert players is past us.
