Hmmm.... drafted as a 4-3 DE and couldn't barely get on the field? Not a good sign. Then again, who was in front of him? It can't be a skill thing... is it work ethic? Does anybody know anything about this guy??
I honestly know that Bills fans hated him with a passion. Wanted him cut after a year, which shows how bad he was. He has the ability, just doesn't seem to have the desire or the smarts, not sure which.

right ... but 228 being close to 230 is literally the difference in a meal or a bowel movement. Still he didn'tquite hit the 215 Cle23 said he was at.
I didn't say I wanted him at LB (or I didn't mean to anyway) I'm just saying I have heard enough of the "you can't play well because your weight isn't good enough" .... we have a guys named Kaluka Maiva, Brandon Jackson, Colt McCoy, and D'Qwell Jackson who have all been criticized for not being the right size at one point or another ... and I don't mind having them.
If the only knock on him is his weight then it's all the more reason to bring him onboard. It's a lot easier to have a guy put on 20 pounds of muscle than it is to teach a guy with size how to play.

except thats not his only knock.
his 24 tackles in 27 career games is a huge knock, his inability to find the field on a terrible buffalo defense is a knock. His inability to play good football while on the field is a knock, and through 3 seasons a supposed pass rush specialist has a grand total of zero sacks....0, zero...

Bills | Aaron Maybin waived Mon, 15 Aug 2011 10:29:59 -0700
The Buffalo Bills have waived LB Aaron Maybin.
No thanks. I would rather have signed Gholston. He is light and weak..He can't play DE at 230 pounds and I wouldn't want him for a LB.

Right. But like I said. Got to camp late and didn't find himself in a starting position. In year one.
After the season, they switched to a 3-4 where no-one on the team ... not one ... had more than 5.5 sacks. In fact - their starting set of Linebackers ... on the entire 2010 roster produced only 9 sacks. Maybe it wasn't the one player ... maybe it was they had zero penetration (almost half a sack per game from the linebackers) so they switched back to the 4-3. And maybe that caused some troubles considering they had prepped the whole offseason to run a 3-4 then just switch out of nowhere ....
And he only played 2 seasons.
Like I said ... just calling him a bad player by only looking at the stats and not the situation is a cop out. That's like disregarding the fact that Robiskie started camp in mangini's doghouse and had a horrible combination of Quinn and Anderson as his QB's in 2009 then had Daboll's offensive juggernaut in 2010.
And instead of looking at the entire picture you write him off because you say "Robiskie only had 36 catches and 416 yards in 2 years ... well the Browns have a horrible offense so if he can't make it there he must suck."

I forgot to add the part about the guy who drafted Maybin in the first place ... his name was Jauron. So I suppose if HE liked him then we would have a good shot of bringing him in?
And I'm not even 100% on the Maybin bandwagon ... I am on the bandwagon that says "23 year old defensive end ... where we have a lot of questions."
I didn't know that Jauron was both HC and GM in buffalo..

Didn't mean it like that. I just meant if the GM was drafting players without the input of the coach ... then there was more problems than can be counted.
My mistake if it came off like I thought he was the GM. Just meant he is a defensive minded coach so I assume he had somewhat of a say with the draft.

I like James Davis, I want the Browns to sign him before Detroit or Pittsburg or Oakland does. Of course I always have a skewed outlook when it comes to runningbacks. However, in his positives, I think he can pound through the line if he gets his carries, and can be tough to tackle. He would have played behind the Browns line before, some of them I'd still think he'd have more to prove than Mike Bell did last season. If the Browns brought him into camp he'd be grateful for the opportunity (translates to greater effort) Didn't James Davis get some carries in that Pittsburg win on thursday night 2 seasons ago? He'd fit right in here, 4th on the depth chart behind Jackson, Hardesty and Hillis. But situationally he'd be 2nd on the depth chart for Plodding, behind Hillis. Is he gonna sign, NO, are they gonna get him NO, But my heart wants to see this guy on the team, (its biased) . and if you disagree with me, that's nothing new. I'd give ya carries James Davis, just like Zach Thomas used to get, from first and goal from the 2... 8 carries for 9 tds or something like that...

James Davis won't be back in Cleveland. RB's in this league are a dime a dozen.. He lost his head, and now will have a hard time finding work in the NFL bc of it.
He is very talented, and I probably loved the pick just as much as any one on this board, but he messed up.

1. He walked out on his team. I never want a guy like that.
2. If healthy, I think Hardesty would be the 2nd "plodder" ahead of Davis even if we signed him.

They got their KR.
Not that it will be much of a factor this year.

He certainly is not a Safety or anything else.

It'll be a huge factor.
I expect the Bengals will be receiving lots of kick offs
