CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Colt McCoy couldn't contain his enthusiasm for the Browns offense's progress in the first week of camp -- despite most of his top skill players either injured or standing on the sidelines. "How far we've made it in a week is crazy, my comfort level in what we're doing," the second-year quarterback said after the Family Fun Day practice at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday. "If you follow the transition of the whole week, we're night and day compared to where we started." Coach Pat Shurmur chuckled with McCoy in the locker room about how far they've come in just six practices. When the lockout ended, McCoy didn't even know his offensive coaches. "He's made huge strides in one week," said Shurmur. "For him to be able to come out here and execute in a lot of situations has been really good." With the Browns on a fast track to learn the new West Coast offense, McCoy was forced to install much of the scheme this week without most of his starting skill players for all or parts of the week. Here's how it went: • Top wideout Mohamed Massaquoi showed up the first day of camp with a walking cast on his lower left leg and it's uncertain when he'll be back. He could get the cast off in a week or so, but it'll take him time to get up to speed. • Tight end Ben Watson, the Browns' leader in receptions last season, went down with a concussion and missed several days. • Receiver Josh Cribbs missed most of the week with a knee injury suffered when a defender fell on it, but returned Friday. • Tight end Evan Moore missed the first five days of work because newly-signed free agents weren't permitted to practice until Thursday. • Tight end Jordan Cameron developed some great chemistry with McCoy early on in camp but went down with a pulled hamstring and has missed the past several days. • Receiver Jordan Norwood was drawing rave reviews and getting tons of reps until he went down with a hip flexor. Despite all of that, McCoy came out and excelled during red zone drills at the stadium, throwing touchdown passes to Peyton Hillis, Watson, Greg Little and Moore. "Overall, I was very pleased," said McCoy. "We threw and caught a lot of balls. We threw a lot of touchdowns. Seven-on-seven and the red zone, that was our focus. It's new to everybody and we're learning as we speak, but we're moving in the right direction." The afternoon also showed that the offense still has a long way to go in this precision scheme. One pass in team drills glanced off Hillis' chest and was picked off by Mike Adams and returned for a TD. Another deep ball for Brian Robiskie was almost swiped by rookie Eric Hagg and undrafted rookie James Dockery picked off McCoy early on in the first of his two-minute drills. "Our timing is just a little bit off," said McCoy. "The depth of our routes, my footwork in the pocket, they're just not timing up like I want them to at this point. You saw a lot of things that were just really close, just right off the hands, or somebody didn't look at it and it goes by their head. But they're easily fixable." McCoy grew weary answering repeated questions about his pick in his first two-minute drill. His second one ended in a missed 60-yard field goal attempt by Phil Dawson. "You guys really like to talk about the end of practice, don't you?" he said. "What about all the good touchdowns? "Those are things that just need to be cleaned up. That may be the second time as a group we've ever run that play. But we need to get better at that. I need to get better at that." Moore reminded folks that McCoy is learning the new offense along with everyone else. "And he's the one that's got to command it," said Moore. "He devoted his off-season to learning it. Because of his discipline in trying to get the details down he's going to be fine, but I definitely think it's a tough thing to do." Moore said McCoy has what it takes to overcome the lockout and new scheme. "This offense puts a lot of responsibility on the quarterback, but there's nobody better than Colt to handle it," said Moore. "As a young player leading the team, he's our guy and he's doing a great job." McCoy, who will face the Super Bowl champion Packers in the preseason opener on Saturday, said the key for the offense is not to make the same mistake twice. "We need more practice, get some receivers healthy; we need this next week," he said. "If we can make the same jump we made this week, we'll feel more comfortable with each other and we can go out there and compete." link
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Thought that was a nice read... I'm still not overly optomistic about our offense... excited to see them on Sat though. I hope we can get these guys healthy though!

With no OTAs.. No mini camps, nothing,, just a week or two of practice and some practices held without the benefits of coaching leadership.. And we're changing from one system to another, a seemingly more complex system to boot..
Hell, I don't expect them to look anywhere near together until about 4 or 5 games into the regular season.. LOL
even with that, some will say my expectations are too high

It's really pretty funny and I have gotten quite a few laughs on some of the negative post this week on McCoy and the offense during their first real introduction to the new offense and new coaching, like you I don't expect them to 'all' be on the same page for the first quarter of the season.

When the schedule came out, I thought we caught a break getting pit and balt at the end of the year. We may just know our offensive and defensive playbooks by then.

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur revealed starting wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has an injured bone in his left leg.
AFC North blog
Walker ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.
• Blog network: NFL Nation
Massaquoi, who showed up at training camp with a cast on his leg, has not yet practiced and spent the workouts on an exercise bike and watching from the sideline. Shurmur did not divulge any details about Massaquoi's injury until Monday, when he confirmed it was a bone problem. The Browns have not said how long they expect Massaquoi, who had 36 receptions as a rookie, to be out.
Also, second-year running back Montario Hardesty continued to be limited in his comeback from a knee injury. Shurmur said Hardesty has not suffered any setbacks and the team is intentionally bringing him along slowly.
Linebacker Chris Gocong suffered a stinger during practice.

Wonder if they'll just stash him on IR and eat the preseason roster spot? It's either that or cut him. I guess they could PUP-list him as well.

Whu? Massaquoi? I suppose that they could. He hasn't practiced yet with the team, and reported injured. He could be a PUP.
Than again, he could start practicing again this week. Who knows?

well, Shurmur didn't say when MoMass would be back, but Holmgren said next week (up a couple posts from CBS).
so, I would suspect he gets the majority of training camp to fight for his spot (unless he suffers a setback).

Hmm... Shurmur is unhappy with Benard's conditioning (as he said in his presser released today.)

Mary Kay Cabot had said they wanted him at his LB playing weight from last year. Sounds like he bulked up a bit for the 4-3 and was a little out of shape.
EDIT*
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/08/cleveland_browns_to_de_marcus.html
BEREA -- Observations from Browns training camp practice ...
• Coaches were surprised to see Marcus Benard come to camp about 25 pounds heavier than his 2010 playing weight of 256.
Coach Pat Shurmur made a point of saying after Monday's practice that Benard needs to get in better condition. Benard doesn't disagree. He said adding the weight was his idea when he learned the club intended to move him from outside linebacker to end in the new 4-3 defense. The coaches love Benard's quickness and feel the added weight cancels it. Chalk this one up to the owners lockout, which halted all communication between coaches and players for over four months.
• WILL linebacker Chris Gocong had to leave practice after suffering a stinger, but it's not serious. In his place came Kaluka Maiava, the fourth-round pick from 2009 who spent about all of last year rehabbing a torn knee ligament. The injury happened in the second week, and Maiava called it "a long, long offseason" for him. Maiva's happy to be back on the field. He's also on most special teams.
• Speaking of special teams, it's becoming evident that the Browns are not spending the same amount of time running down on kicks and punts as the previous regime. Coaches are a little sensitive about suggestions that the special teams don't get worked as hard. Ray Ventrone said a lot of the work is done in the afternoon walk-through and there isn't the necessity "to run down six times in a row on kickoffs."
• Inconsistency is probably going to plague rookie receiver Greg Little until he completely knocks off the rust from a year of inactivity at North Carolina. After a good showing at Saturday's practice at Cleveland Browns Stadium, Little had three drops today.
• Receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has a small chip fracture on his left foot, said a source. He's still in a cast, but President Mike Holmgren told SportsTime Ohio that the team was hoping to get Massaquoi back on the field next week. Holmgren also referred to Massaquoi as the team's No. 1 receiver.
• Sitting out were running back Montario Hardesty (knee), defensive back Ramzee Robinson (groin) and Massaquoi. Cornerback Joe Haden and tight end Jordan Cameron were back in action.
• Quarterbacks and the wideouts have to work on sideline awareness. A lot of the sideline passes are being caught -- or are falling -- out of bounds.
• On the Browns' first goal-line play today, right guard Shawn Lauvao got the better of defensive tackle Phil Taylor and Peyton Hillis plunged over for the touchdown. Later in the series, No. 4 tight end Alex Smith had two sliding catches.

If he can move all of that beef out of the hole then I like his chances against just about any that he will face.

I agree that the lack of an off season is in part to blame here, but 25lbs now he will need to lose 10 - 15 to regain that speed and quickness. With the heat and humidity we have had I don't foresee a problem with getting him back to an ideal playing wait.

I'm not sure though. They say they want him to lose weight, but all you heard the 1st couple of days was how quick Benard looked coming off the edge. 281 is big for Benard, but I could see him playing at 270 and being just as quick.

I thought perhaps Benard would come in 10 -15 tops (265-270<tops) heavier, but he has plenty of time to melt that off and this is just one of those distractions that come December will hardly be remembered.

He was one of the most productive guys early in camp ... taking over the #1 role while Massaquoi has been out.
I haven't heard much in the past few days ..... but that doesn't always mean much. Those who cover the team like a good comeback story, a good rookie story, a good QB story, or a failing veteran story. It doesn't seem like Robiske really falls into any of those categories for a feature story.

He could be that 2nd/3rd receiver though.
If he's just "consistent", there may be a role for him.
I don't care either way. I just want the best players on the team. He is one of the few guys with real on the fiel experience though. That may be a factor in his favor ... especially if we keep 3 guys like Little, Mitchell, and Norwood. If those 3 make it, I would expect us to keep 2 experienced guys (even with minimal experience) to balance their inexperience.

Guess this isn't strictly a "Marcus Benard" thing. Not really that surprising considering that teams couldn't have workouts, or practices, or even contact with players during the lockout. http://www.cantonrep.com/browns/x782943698/Browns-Notebook-Easy-to-see-players-out-of-shapeBrowns Notebook: Easy to see players out of shape By Steve Doerschuk CantonRep.com staff writer Posted Aug 09, 2011 @ 12:49 AM BEREA — Ten days into training camp, the Browns haven’t shaken “lockout lag.” The team isn’t in the kind of “football shape” normally in evidence when spring practice isn’t wiped out by a labor stink. Late in Monday’s straining camp work — a tuneup for Saturday’s preseason opener against Green Bay — the crowd near a VIP tent got a little show. A coach blew his cool during a running drill. “We need more out of you DBs!” came a booming voice. “Gotta get in shape! Go! Go! Do not slow down!” Not everybody is on the same page. Demetrius Williams, an ex-Raven who is the most experienced wide receiver in camp, got hot about something during a passing drill on the practice field nearest the Browns locker room. While Williams fumed, Seneca Wallace grabbed him by the back of his should pads. The veteran quarterback tried to calm down Williams, who seemed not to want to hear it. Rookie Round 2 pick Greg Little was part of the mess that got Butch Davis fired at North Carolina. He really needed spring practice, having not playing since 2009. General manager Tom Heckert said Little seemed “gassed” during Saturday’s Browns Stadium practice. In Monday’s practice, Little had a big-time case of the dropsies. After the choppy Monday practice, head coach Pat Shurmur was asked how well last year’s sack leader Marcus Benard is making the transition from 3-4 outside linebacker to 4-3 end. Shurmur said the guy needs to get in better shape. Maybe it’s a simple matter of the new coaching staff making sure the fellows know who is boss. Maybe the first week of camp was about shaking hands and making nice after a long, hard labor war. Maybe the second week is to remind the players who is boss. No more Mr. Nice Guy. MACK ON THE MOVE Center Alex Mack is one Brown who seems to be in football shape. As has been his custom since joining the Browns as a Round 1 pick in 2009, Mack always sprints to the next drill when the horn blows. After one drill Monday, right tackle Tony Pashos took off running, as if to give Mack some competition. It was an inside joke. Pashos knew there was no way he would keep up with the young center. If The Browns’ offensive line group were a track and field team, Mack would run the 100-meter dash. Pashos would be one of the shot putters. GOCONG DINGED There was plenty of pad-popping in the first practice before the first preseason game. Linebacker Chris Gocong left with a “stinger.” Gocong, the starting weak-side linebacker, was replaced by 2009 Round 4 pick Kaluka Maiava. At 6-foot, less than 230 pounds, Maiava is one of the smaller linebackers in the NFL, but he is tough, fast and likely to make the team. Maiava gained some notoriety last year when he told tales about hunting wild boars with his bare hands — albeit one of those hands contained a knife. He said his boar-hunting days have been on hold since a Week 2 knee injury that ended his 2010 season. Shaking off rust is a bigger issue than adapting to the new 4-3 defense. Maiava is playing the same position he played in a 4-3 at USC. “I loved it,” he said. EXTRA POINTS • Cornerback Joe Haden’s offseason included adding a tattoo on the inside of his right forearm. Below an NFL logo are the words, “Dream come true.” Asked what his dream might be, he laughed and said, “Win a Super Bowl.” • Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi is expected to miss the Green Bay game after missing the first 10 days of camp with a foot injury. The Browns think Massaquoi can start practicing next week. • Pat Murray, two years removed from playing at Truman State, is making a strong bid to make the team as an extra offensive lineman. When he manhandled undrafted rookie defensive lineman Kyle Anderson in a pass-rushing drill, Pashos exclaimed in a tone of appreciation, “Murray!” • Rookie defensive end Jabaal Sheard came close to beating the Browns’ Pro Bowl left tackle on one rush during the drill. “The good thing for Jabaal,” said GM Tom Heckert, “is that the first day he was here, he lined up against Joe Thomas on his first play.” • Heckert also thinks that 2010 Round 3 pick Shawn Lauvao, the No. 1 right guard, and rookie Round 1 pick Phil Taylor, a defensive tackle, are sharpening each other. Heckert continues to rave about Lauvao.

http://www.cantonrep.com/carousel/x21119...-Browns-offenseShurmur taking hands-on approach to revamping Browns' offense By Steve Doerschuk CantonRep.com staff writer Posted Aug 09, 2011 @ 12:57 AM Last update Aug 09, 2011 @ 01:01 AM BEREA — It’s one thing to be a hands-on head coach. The Browns’ new field boss is kicking it up a notch. Out here on the fields, Pat Shurmur gets his feet into his living. Monday’s practice for Saturday’s preseason opener against Green Bay had just begun. Shurmur was all over the place as the offense reviewed plays that would be tried later during 11-on-11 work. “All over” at one point meant Shurmur lined up at wide receiver, to quarterback Colt McCoy’s left. Shurmur was talking as he began to run in motion to the right. At the snap, Shurmur fired out and curled in front of Troy Weatherhead, the No. 4 quarterback who was simulating the role of a cornerback. Tight end Evan Moore looped around Shurmur, headed for the left sideline, and caught McCoy’s pass. Wideouts of assorted ages and experience levels are coming face to face with Shurmur as he teaches his nuances. Along these lines: n Six-foot-5 rookie Chris Matthews is learning not to slow down during a comeback route. “Push it!” Shurmur yells to Matthews with one ball in the air. “Good. That’s better.” • Seventh-year pro Joshua Cribbs turns to make a short catch and whips his body around without wasting a split second. This is a staple in the “catch-and-run” element critical to the new West Coast offense. “Thataway, Josh!” Shurmur says. His voice is raised. It never reaches yell level. A bit later, Cribbs’ footwork is off on a route to the left flat, and Shurmur quietly tells him so from the distance of a few feet. • Rookie Round 2 pick Greg Little isn’t just struggling to catch the ball — he had a rough Monday after a strong stadium scrimmage Saturday — he also is trying to learn proper depth on short routes, an essential timing point in catch-and-run. Little fires out on a route. “Now you should stop,” Shurmur says in the tone of a kindly professor. Little makes eye contact as Shurmur says, “You know what I’m saying?” Even if there comes a point at which everyone knows what Shurmur is saying, the Browns could struggle with game-speed doing. How are they supposed to match the spontaneity of, say, Green Bay, the defending Super Bowl champs, who will be in Cleveland on Saturday for a preseason opener? The Packers are running basically the offense Mike Holmgren honed as Green Bay’s head coach from 1992-98. That includes the last five years under Head Coach Mike McCarthy. Shurmur has had less than two weeks with the Cleveland players who are learning the Holmgren-style offense on the fly. Throw in the lockout factor, which wiped out the offseason new head coaches sorely need, and it almost isn’t fair. Shurmur hasn’t whined once. Players have warmed to his even-keel style and quiet confidence. “There is a lot of coaching going on,” Shurmur says. “That’s the way we want it at this point. “We’re getting used to the players’ mannerisms. They’re getting used to us ... especially if we get a little anxious or uptight.” The pressure will rise. The Sept. 11 opener against the Bengals is barely more than a month away. For now, Camp Shurmur is not coming off as all that uptight. Jarrett Brown, a No. 3 quarterback who probably will play a lot against Green Bay, was on the field at the end of Monday’s practice with a third-and-goal from the 1. Brown looked over the middle then took off running to his right. He cut inside and knifed into the end zone. Maybe he would have been stopped had there been live tackling. Shurmur was on the field, as had been the case all day. In this case, he was the referee. He made a snap judgment that Brown would have scored. His hands went up. Seeing the touchdown signal, young receiver L.J. Castile leaped into the air and let out a “woo!” Shurmur couldn’t help but to smile.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

TRAINING CAMP REPORT - DAY 10 (8/8/11)
Perfect Weather Day: I don't think the players or fans will have a better day weather-wise the rest of training camp. As a fan, one of the worst parts of camp has been having the sun melting me as I stand still for the duration of practice. Monday was different -- I'd say there was cloud cover for about 80% of practice, and that definitely made practice a lot easier to sit through. This also seemed to be the most attended camp of the three I've been to in Berea, which surprised me considering it had been raining a little bit just prior to the session. Early Nightmare Avoided: One of the first thing teams went through were the position drills. Right in front of me were the quarterbacks, and the first thing they were doing was practicing their drop step left, then right, then left, then right, etc. for a good chunk of yardage. The first time that Colt McCoy did it, I saw an equipment bag had been left near midfield. Sure enough, McCoy was backing up fast, and was about two-three strides away from the equipment bag. I thought to myself, "oh god, I'm going to witness an end to McCoy right here." Thankfully, one of the assistants yelled, "hey, watch out for that bag, McCoy," which promoted him to stop. He turned around and looked at the bag as an equipment manager moved it out of the way. Disaster averted, whew. Joe Haden, Jordan Norwood Return: It was good to see cornerback Joe Haden participating fully in drills again. The same goes for wide receiver Jordan Norwood, who was back to playing the slot with the first team offense. You can add defensive end Marcus Benard to the list of players who returned too, although he never ended up missing a full practice after hurting his knee Saturday at the stadium. Third String Lowlights: I usually like to highlight players, but unfortunately, I need to point out some of the "lowlights" from players who really don't have that great of a chance at making the team. Quarterback Troy Weatherhead could not throw the ball to the chest of an assistant coach in a simple drill early in practice. On two occasions, he threw the ball well over the guy's head. In terms of accuracy, he is clearly separated from the other quarterbacks, and not in a good way. Running back Armond Smith had two drops in an offense-only drill, and so did fullback Tyler Clutts. Jackson > Hardesty: Based on what I've seen from Brandon Jackson so far, I've drawn this conclusion: Montario Hardesty should probably be the third running back to start off the season. Jackson has been one of the team's best receivers in camp. The team especially ran a lot of drills with him today in which he started in the backfield and did a wheel route to the sideline. On one play, there was tight coverage on Jackson but he kept his concentration and hauled in a perfect pass by Seneca Wallace. It's hard to gauge how well Jackson will run against a live defense, but he's getting good work in during some two-back sets. Formation I'm Liking: I liked seeing the offense run this play in offense-only drills: fullback Owen Marecic lines up behind Colt McCoy, and Peyton Hillis lines up to the right of Marecic. On the snap, McCoy goes for a playfake, Hillis runs the wheel, and Marecic blocks the direction McCoy rolls. McCoy then fires a pass down the sideline to Hillis. If the defenders come up on that play, Hillis (or whoever else we put in that situation) have the hands to catch the ball down the field. Mulligan, Please? There was an ugly portion of practice, and with a veteran like Seneca Wallace under center, I feel more inclined to blame the people he's playing with. On one play, about six offensive guys jumped early for a false start. On the next play, the quarterback/center exchange resulted in a fumble. Wallace picked it up and had to throw it away. Hurry Up Drill: For about two minutes of practice, the Browns ran a drill in which the offense ran one quick passing play and they raced off the field as the field goal unit rushed on to the field. They would quickly set up and get the kick off as soon as possible. After that, regular field goal kicking was worked on, with the crowd in awe any time Dawson's kicks hit the camera lift. Moore Leads All: I think Evan Moore is the best receiver on the team. I am really high on this guy, maybe even more so than I used to be on Jerome Harrison. Moore delivered another good practice session on Monday, as he was no match for the defenders he was up against. He is one of the few players who works with the first-team offense and the second-team offense. Another Good Tight End: It should also be known that tight end Alex Smith has been catching everything thrown his way, and most of the stuff he is getting is 10-15 yards down the field. That was the case during the Saturday practice too. He is getting a lot of reps with Jordan Cameron still resting. With Smith being considered a good blocker, I still stand by the fact that we'll keep four tight ends. Regular Series: Each offensive unit had a chance to have a regular series against a defensive unit, with no real crunch on time in effect. The first-team defense faced the second-team offense (led by Seneca Wallace) to kick things off. The first-team offense won that easily, as they forced a three-and-out. Up next was Colt McCoy and the first-team offense against the second-team defense. The first play was a handoff for 6 yards, followed by a nice pass to Ben Watson for 14 yards and a first down. On the next play, Peyton Hillis rumbled forward for a 15-yard gain. The next play was a quick slant to Greg Little...who dropped it. More on Little in the next bullet point. The next pass was a pass catchable, but also ahead of Cribbs, who couldn't haul it in. On third down, McCoy threw it to Owen Marecic in the flat. It would've been a gain for about five yards, but a defender came in and knocked the ball away. Last up was the third-string offense (led by Jarrett Brown) versus the third-string defense. There were only two plays allowed. Jarrett Brown made a low throw over the middle to Evan Frosch that fell incomplete. On the next play, Brown way overshot Juan Nunez down the field. Disappointed in Little: With this being the first year I've attended a training camp, it's not a good thing to see Greg Little consistently having so many drops on passes that are right at him. Most of the time I see him drop the ball, it looks like it's in a position where he expects to catch the ball and get ready to head up the field. It's not that he takes his eyes off the ball, but it looks like the anticipation factor might get in the way. He seems better when he knows he's already in the end zone and there's no where else to go. Little had about three more drops on Monday, a step back from Saturday. Two Minute Drills: Toward the end of practice, the two-minute drills were run. First-teamers against first-teamers, and so on. There was 50 seconds on the clock to start each drill, and the offense started at midfield with one timeout. Here is how each unit did: Two Minute Drill (First Teamers): 1st-and-10 @ 50, 0:50: McCoy throws to Hillis in the flat for 5 yards. 2nd-and-5 @ 45, 0:45: McCoy throws a deep out to Watson, but it falls incomplete. 3rd-and-5 @ 45, 0:39: McCoy hits Moore for 5 yards and a first down. 1st-and-10 @ 40, 0:22: McCoy is sacked for a loss of 5 yards. Timeout called. Should've called a timeout after Moore's completion. 2nd-and-15 @ 45, 0:15: McCoy's pass appears to be tipped, target unknown. Incomplete. 3rd-and-15 @ 45, 0:10: McCoy hits Moore, who gets pushed out of bounds after a gain of 14 yards. They might have given him a first down, but the next play is the last anyway due to time. 4th-and-1 @ 31, 0:04: McCoy gives Robiskie a chance in the end zone on a good attempt, but Sheldon Brown is there to defend the pass and knock it away. Two Minute Drill (Second Teamers): 1st-and-10 @ 50, 0:50: Wallace passes to Jackson in the flat for no gain. They waste a TON of time getting the next play off. 2nd-and-10 @ 50, 0:30: Wallace throws the ball to Clutts for a 6 yard gain, but still in bounds. 3rd-and-4 @ 44, 0:11: Wallace throws to Jackson in the flat for 3 yards. Timeout called. 4th-and-1 @ 41, 0:06: It's Hail Mary time. Wallace heaves the ball into the end zone. No receivers are there yet, and James Dockery intercepts it for a touchback. Two Minute Drill (Third Teamers): 1st-and-10 @ 50, 0:50: Brown fires the ball to Castile for 27 yards. They run up quick enough to keep things rolling. 1st-and-10 @ 23, 0:30: Brown goes for the kill and tries to hit Matthews in the end zone, but he can't haul it in. 2nd-and-10 @ 23, 0:23: Brown hits Windsor for a gain of 10 yards. He got out of bounds too. 1st-and-10 @ 13, 0:18: Brown drops back, has no where to go, and is sacked. Timeout called. 2nd-and-16 @ 19, 0:11: Brown throws it out of the back of the end zone in Windsor's direction. 3rd-and-16 @ 19, 0:06: Probably one play left. Brown throws it to the left corner of the end zone for Matthews. He tries to one hand the ball but it's incomplete. He complains that he was interfered with. They give it to him -- ball is placed at the one yard line with the clocks at 0:00. 1st-and-goal @ 1, 0:00: Brown rolls out and has the option to run. He takes it himself and scores from a yard out. Success! Goal Line Plays: I could not see this from where I was at, so I'll quote what Tony Grossi said about it: "On the Browns' first goal-line play today, right guard Shawn Lauvao got the better of defensive tackle Phil Taylor and Peyton Hillis plunged over for the touchdown. Later in the series, No. 4 tight end Alex Smith had two sliding catches." Brownies: It looked like Jarrett Brown might have been leading a scout-team offense (as Green Bay) during one-stretch of practice since he was facing the first-team defense...after some early drops, there was one weird stretch of practice where Tyler Clutts was targeted successfully on three straight plays...Chris Matthews has too many drops for his liking, I'm not sure if I'd even put him on the practice squad...Grossi notes that LB Chris Gocong had to leave practice with a stinger but should be fine.
Go Browns!!!

It's really bothersome to see that Colt only throws the ball to TE's.. I mean if he is moving the chains.. cool.. but dang.. give the WR's a chance to succeed.

I agree, to a point. I don't want McCoy just dumping off because he can't make the throws to the WRs.
But, on the other hand, I don't want him forcing it to WRs just because they're out there. If they're not getting open, then I'd want McCoy to dump it off.
Not seeing what's going on, it's tough for me to rag on McCoy. And, it'll be tough to rag on him on Saturday since I'll be watching on TV and won't get to see really how the WRs do.

I will be watching.. lol. I wish Shurmur would let the fans know his game plan in regards to how much playing time the 'starters' will get.

My understanding is that the starters won't see much time, that this game will mostly be 2nd and 3rd stringers.
I have a feeling preseason games 2 and 3, we'll see the starters quite a bit more.
I'd love to see our offense get some game speed work, but there's always those injuries to worry about. *knocking on wood*

Maybe I'm wrong, but in practice, McCoy seems to go to the TEs a lot because they are open a lot, especially Moore. I could easily see Moore leading us in receiving this year.
Or maybe our defense just can't cover TEs.

Well, as big as Moore is, he's a mismatch for whoever's going to cover him. So, if he's open, why not throw to him?
I mean, are we really going to complain if McCoy can lead us down the field to TDs throwing solely to TEs and RBs?
Granted, teams will start taking that away, but if the TEs and RBs are open and can create gains, why the heck wouldn't you throw to them??
