OK....going to put myself out here a bit.....
...so let me say that recently I have been seeing a therapist for some issues I want to resolve (maybe MACs posts finally pushed me over the edge ).

One of the things she asked me to do was to take a personality profile test so I can learn more about myself. Its basically a Meyers-Briggs personality test to help see what makes you be you.

Personally I found it quite intriguing which would make sense since I am an INTJ. Take the test and you'll know what I mean by that. My 'J' is very low though and a different test of a similar nature had me at an INTP. I found a long essay on INTPs and it read like an auto-biography for me. Even mentioned the Monty-Python humor appreciation. I'm probably more of an INTx.

I was wondering what everyone else is? Don't be shy (like my INTJ/P says I am -- which I am). Once you take it, read up on yourself on various sites and relationships with other types. It really is fascinating (at least to me) stuff.

To take one type of test:

So what are you?

I'm ENFJ. Says I would be a good teacher (which I was for the few years that I did teach). Says I would be interested in politics, which I am (but would never do because it would be too frustrating).

And, this is exactly 100% true:

I donno ... so many of those questions could of gone either way depending on my mood or the situation. I got slightly ESTJ, which is considered a "Supervisor" ... but like I said, a number of those questions could of easily gone the other way and I'd be considered something else on another day.

On another note, glad to see you're seeing a therapist. I know a lot of people make fun or don't understand, but it can be very helpful. I had a rough time a couple years ago with a job situation that was just terrible. It helped a ton to just have someone to go to and vent, and who could then give me some good advice.

That's why I took a couple of different variations of the test. I did retake this particular one a few days later and I was still an INTJ but the %s changed (with my mood) .
There's one that tries to box you in with only 4 selections. http://www.haleonline.com/psychtest/

Thx. Means a lot. I said I was putting myself out there a bit (even though most here don't know me). But just doing this and your comment has helped.

ENFJ.

As for your seeking counseling - don't EVER let anyone tell you - and don't EVER think - that's a sign of weakness, or a fault.

In actuality, it's a sign of strength.

Your Type is: ENTP
Extraverted 44%
Intuitive 38%
Thinking 50%
Perceiving 11%

Usually the most out-going of all the Rationals is the Inventor (ENTP). That's because they love bouncing their ideas off other people and seeing their reactions. It is not unusual to find this type in any job that requires new ideas and people contact. You might find them in politics, in real estate development, in advertising, in marketing, or in public relations. They could be a venture capitalist, a management consult, or a sports agent. As long as they have the opportunity to invent a new product or a new experience, they will shine.

ENTJ

"I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?"
ENTJs have a natural tendency to marshall and direct. This may be expressed with the charm and finesse of a world leader or with the insensitivity of a cult leader. The ENTJ requires little encouragement to make a plan. One ENTJ put it this way... "I make these little plans that really don't have any importance to anyone else, and then feel compelled to carry them out." While "compelled" may not describe ENTJs as a group, nevertheless the bent to plan creatively and to make those plans reality is a common theme for NJ types.

ENTJs are often "larger than life" in describing their projects or proposals. This ability may be expressed as salesmanship, story-telling facility or stand-up comedy. In combination with the natural propensity for filibuster, our hero can make it very difficult for the customer to decline.

TRADEMARK: -- "I'm really sorry you have to die." (I realize this is an overstatement. However, most Fs and other gentle souls usually chuckle knowingly at this description.)

ENTJs are decisive. They see what needs to be done, and frequently assign roles to their fellows. Few other types can equal their ability to remain resolute in conflict, sending the valiant (and often leading the charge) into the mouth of hell. When challenged, the ENTJ may by reflex become argumentative. Alternatively (s)he may unleash an icy gaze that serves notice: the ENTJ is not one to be trifled with.

Famous ENTJs:
U.S. Presidents:
Franklin D. Roosevelt (YIKES!)
Richard M. Nixon

Others:
Napoleon
Jim Carrey
Harrison Ford
Newt Gingrich
General Norman Schwarzkopf
Patrick Stewart (STNG: Jean Luc Picard)
Margaret Thatcher

My career indicators run towards Management, Law, Politics, and the Military. (presumably with me in charge)

http://www.personalitypage.com/INTP.html

You can substitute for type in the above url using caps and get this sites analysis:

INTP

As an INTP, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you deal with things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is external, where you take things in primarily via your intuition.

INTPs live in the world of theoretical possibilities. They see everything in terms of how it could be improved, or what it could be turned into. They live primarily inside their own minds, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. They seek clarity in everything, and are therefore driven to build knowledge. They are the "absent-minded professors", who highly value intelligence and the ability to apply logic to theories to find solutions. They typically are so strongly driven to turn problems into logical explanations, that they live much of their lives within their own heads, and may not place as much importance or value on the external world. Their natural drive to turn theories into concrete understanding may turn into a feeling of personal responsibility to solve theoretical problems, and help society move towards a higher understanding.

INTPs value knowledge above all else. Their minds are constantly working to generate new theories, or to prove or disprove existing theories. They approach problems and theories with enthusiasm and skepticism, ignoring existing rules and opinions and defining their own approach to the resolution. They seek patterns and logical explanations for anything that interests them. They're usually extremely bright, and able to be objectively critical in their analysis. They love new ideas, and become very excited over abstractions and theories. They love to discuss these concepts with others. They may seem "dreamy" and distant to others, because they spend a lot of time inside their minds musing over theories. They hate to work on routine things - they would much prefer to build complex theoretical solutions, and leave the implementation of the system to others. They are intensely interested in theory, and will put forth tremendous amounts of time and energy into finding a solution to a problem with has piqued their interest.

INTPs do not like to lead or control people. They're very tolerant and flexible in most situations, unless one of their firmly held beliefs has been violated or challenged, in which case they may take a very rigid stance. The INTP is likely to be very shy when it comes to meeting new people. On the other hand, the INTP is very self-confident and gregarious around people they know well, or when discussing theories which they fully understand.

The INTP has no understanding or value for decisions made on the basis of personal subjectivity or feelings. They strive constantly to achieve logical conclusions to problems, and don't understand the importance or relevance of applying subjective emotional considerations to decisions. For this reason, INTPs are usually not in-tune with how people are feeling, and are not naturally well-equiped to meet the emotional needs of others.

The INTP may have a problem with self-aggrandizement and social rebellion, which will interfere with their creative potential. Since their Feeling side is their least developed trait, the INTP may have difficulty giving the warmth and support that is sometimes necessary in intimate relationships. If the INTP doesn't realize the value of attending to other people's feelings, he or she may become overly critical and sarcastic with others. If the INTP is not able to find a place for themself which supports the use of their strongest abilities, they may become generally negative and cynical. If the INTP has not developed their Sensing side sufficiently, they may become unaware of their environment, and exhibit weakness in performing maintenance-type tasks, such as bill-paying and dressing appropriately.

For the INTP, it is extremely important that ideas and facts are expressed correctly and succinctly. They are likely to express themselves in what they believe to be absolute truths. Sometimes, their well thought-out understanding of an idea is not easily understandable by others, but the INTP is not naturally likely to tailor the truth so as to explain it in an understandable way to others. The INTP may be prone to abandoning a project once they have figured it out, moving on to the next thing. It's important that the INTP place importance on expressing their developed theories in understandable ways. In the end, an amazing discovery means nothing if you are the only person who understands it.

The INTP is usually very independent, unconventional, and original. They are not likely to place much value on traditional goals such as popularity and security. They usually have complex characters, and may tend to be restless and temperamental. They are strongly ingenious, and have unconventional thought patterns which allows them to analyze ideas in new ways. Consequently, a lot of scientific breakthroughs in the world have been made by the INTP.

The INTP is at his best when he can work on his theories independently. When given an environment which supports his creative genius and possible eccentricity, the INTP can accomplish truly remarkable things. These are the pioneers of new thoughts in our society.

Jungian functional preference ordering:

Dominant: Introverted Thinking
Auxiliary: Extraverted Intuition
Tertiary: Introverted Sensing
Inferior: Extraverted Feeling

irog...OR, maybe my posts and opinions have allowed you to view some situations and subjects from a different perspective.

Interesting test...

As for the seeing a therapist...irog, fwiw and imo, most people could benefit from at least a few sessions with a mental health professional.

For the most part, today's society has moved beyond the old fashioned stereotypes that labeled individuals who sought the services of a mental health professional...only the ignorant continue to believe in those stereotypes.
