Hopefully the Twins can hold on and get the Tribe to within 2.

Should hold, as it's in the 9th.

Tribe back to within 2 without playing a game.

huge congrats to Thome. not only for #600 but for knocking Detroit down a peg in doing so

and, i'm going to repeat myself here: I love that when Detroit doesn't have Verlander on the mound, they have to put out guys like Fister, Penny, Scherzer, and Porcello (though he has had a couple nice stretches).

delmon young is not a pitcher

I'm surprised the tribe didn't look into young. Talented guy who hit 24 homers and drove in 112 last year with the twins. I know he sometimes could be a problem in the clubhouse, but the tigers got him for practically nothing.

congrats to thome, well deserved, 600 is huge, he should be a first ballot HOF'er

the tribe should really look at today's standings and realize they control their own destiny. tigers up 2 games but they are tied in the L column. and they have 9 left with the tigers. just go out and play the way you have the last few weeks.

they're up against it tonight though, the sox for whatever reason have had their number all year. they gotta get this first game to shake that monkey off their back. sox are going to be charged, they are back to .500 for the first time in a while. hopefully things change against the sox with the young guys who have been brought up and are producing. Maybe kipnis goes nuts in his hometown tonight.

Exactly! Still helping out the Tribe after all these years.

As far as being two games behind Detroit, it's almost a mis-nomer. Somehow we've played 4 less games than them, so we would have to win all FOUR of those extra games to pull even with them.

the odds are stacked a little against us with the injuries and lineup issues that we have along with the deficit. but, this team seems to like to scrap. i'll take my chances with them.

they are incredibly tough for such a young group. these guys got hosed by the sox in their first 2 games of the season and came back to rip off 8 straight.

even just 2 weeks ago when they had those heartbreaking losses on the road, they still came back. it's like every time you are ready to write them off, they come back.

even with all the walk off victories too, how many of those were comeback? it's an incredible story, and i think a ton of credit should be thrown manny acta's way for being calm through everything. i don't think there is a team in the league, at least with the good half of teams, that has dealt with injuries like the tribe has.

early on he was a shoe-in for manager of the year, now i think he has to win the central to get it, even if he may deserve it anyway.

+1

He has to win the Central to get the award.

It stinks we have to makeup four games to end the season. That's 4 days we'd be resting otherwise. So that stinks, but they're also games we can make up the ground Detroit has over us if we win them (and Detroit can't do anything to stop them from climbing).

So if the Tribe can win those four and just play the other games 1 better than Detroit, we're in the playoffs. Simple, right?

i kinda like that they won't get rest, i mean the fact that they're beat up hurts, but if they can get on a roll, it might be to their benefit to not have an off day.

they started off 30-15, it'd be awesome if they could finish that way.

you would think they gotta get hot right? they haven't been "hot" since may, they've been treading water since.

i do think it's nice that they have the depth in starting pitching to do this 45 in 44. especially since david huff looks unbelieavble right now.

let's also mention that we signed 17 of our top19 round draft picks (round 8 and round17 are the guys we did not sign). great job by the FO to get that done.

we missed out on our round20 guy (Dillon Peters) who only dropped that far because he was considered a lock to go play for Auggie at Texas. apparently, we actually almost convinced him to sign as well.

in MLB for small and big markets (who need prospects for trades), the best bargains for your money are through the draft. good to see that we are continuing our recent trend of properly investing here (top5 spender the last 4 years)

Here's a link to the draft picks signed as well as write-ups on each one:

Will be interesting to see how Lindor does. He sounds a lot like Omar. Great glove, good hitter, good speed, so-so power. The best thing is he's only 17, so he has lots of room to grow.

We're scheduled to miss Verlander over the weekend, wonder if they re-arrange the rotation again. JV would have to go on 4 days rest as he is scheduled to start Monday vs. Tampa.

Tomlin vs. Scherzer (Fri.)
Huff vs. Fister (Sat.)
Jimenez vs. Porcello (Sun.)

Just saw that Angel Pagan cleared waivers, do you think we will have any interest? Not really knowing the extent of Brantleys wrist injury, I think pagan would be a decent season ending fix.

Sunday would be the regular rest for Verlander.

I guess since the game is a 1:05 start it would be 4 1/2 days rest. i have a feeling he will be on the mound.

good speed, good defense, so-so hitter. sure, if Brantley and Sizemore are going to be out until mid-Sept (I'm guessing, I have no idea), then I'd give the Mets a call.

that didn't work so well for the Tribe with 2 other "great name" OFers (Coco Crisp and Milton Bradley)

some team needs to get all 3 of those guys on the field at the same time though.

man ubaldo is garbage, we gave up 2 first picks for him, i was mad at the trade because i thought starting pitching was fine, i wish the indians would just scrap the owners and FO and bring real baseball people in. Our defense in this game has been pretty sad, not to mention the hitting, they are half-assing everything it looks like..seems whenever detroit falters, we do right along with them, they don't realize that sox our right on our heels as well.

I don't think its safe to say that Ubaldo has been garbage when our team has played defense that would get you yelled at on a Little League team. He hasn't looked great, no, but our defense has looked incompetent tonight.

Indians back to within 5-4 with 2 on and 2 out.

Let's go Tribe!

The unpire just called ball 3 strike 1 ......

But Donald walks in a run anyway on ball 5.

Game tied at 5 with the bases loaded.

Freaking Choo. Watching another ball sail over his head. Looks like crap.

Edit: Nice. Just gave the lead right back because Choo can't field a damn fly ball and Santana can't field a grounder. Bundle those two up with LaPorta and get them all the hell away from my team.

This staff has a disgusting habit of giving runs right back after the offense scratches a couple across. Not just tonight, either. The better part of 3 months now. Three times now tonight.

Wow, a called strike on a pitch that hit the dirt in front of Hafner's back foot

This game should be over, though...Tribe caught a MASSIVE break on that fielding blunder.

worst called game I've seen all year. That check swing on hafner was an absolute joke. A dirt ball called a strike, and that pitch called a strike to cabrera, that was 6 inches outside. If he calls that a ball, we may score 5-6 in the 6th inning.

Pretty sure the 3rde base umpire called it a strike cause he said Hafner swung.

Sure got lucky on Beckham's blunder. This strike zone is a joke tonight.

Choo messed up again, allowing a runner to get to 3rd.

I' don't know how that umpire is allowed to call a game ever again. If you watch this game pitch by pitch, this guy has missed at least 10-15 calls. Has no consistency in his strike zone, and called obvious balls, strikes.

Another horribly played ball by Choo nearly cost them the game. Whoever that was that hit the triple should've been rung up anyway on the pitch that was over the plate but called a ball.

There was an appeal on the BS strike on Hafner, but it was still the wrong call.
