http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspxRobaire Smith-DL-Titans Mar. 6 - 10:38 am et Free agent DL Robaire Smith met with the Browns on Monday. Smith and the Titans hit a snag in contract talks just before free agency began and now he's questionable to return. He'd play end in Cleveland.

He is a player I hope we can sign. He would be an improvement over both Roye or Alvin....especially Alvin

If thats true lets get him. That would make it easier to draft Thomas at 3 then a guard in the 2nd.

This sounds like he was in yesterday. I guess we didn't tie him up. I hate when they leave town. your percentage to sign drops waaaaay down.
Hopefully it's a typo and he in town today

I don't see how signing him would impact the first pick.
Any way I look at it, DE isn't something we are looking at with our 1st selection.
Nothing would change by signing this guy.

How would getting a DE make it easier to take Thomas?

I'm guessing they meant today as well. No way this would have fallen through the cracks yesterday. We are desperate for DL, this would have been reported on, at least you would hope, by the local media.

His logic is if we can focus on our d-line through FA, then we won't need to draft Alan Branch, Jamaal Anderson, or Amobi Okoye...Then we can focus on offensive line, RB, and CB's.
I would really like to see us get maybe Tank Taylor in the 2nd round if we can get Joe Thomas in the first
Go Browns!!

I guess I can see where he's coming from then.. but I don't think there's any chance of us taking DL in the first anyway. We'll take either Joe Thomas, Peterson, or Brady Quinn.

Because possibly we would'nt have to draft D-line in the 2nd. Some on here think Savage is going to trade down and take Branch or somebody on defense. We could maybe wait and go defense in the 3rd depending how the draft works out.

If thats true lets get him. That would make it easier to draft Thomas at 3 then a guard in the 2nd. Signing Smith does not change the first or second pick at all..it will reduce Phil from taking a DE high in the draft unless he has one rated higher than anyone in a given rd. We need to be able to focus on getting a bonefide NT..

...or Russell if he drops. Maybe I'm an idiot, I think Savage wants Russell more than Quinn. Like last year, find the guy on Savage's radar but with the least buzz....and you might have the guy Savage wants.
Not that this narrows it down any but I think this is how Savage's draft board is ranked:
1. Russell 2. Thomas 3. ...start listening about trading down 4. Peterson 5. Quinn
Of that grouping, the immediate impact's are 2, 3, & 4.

I have a hunch Robaire left us because of three reasons, he's looking for more $$$; PS might have said we need you to play NT; three, Robaire is not impressed with our FO. JMHO

Yeah, you are right. But the reason I didn't mention Russell is because he will be gone by #3. If Oakland decides not to take Russell at 1, and take Calvin Johnson instead... I think Detroit will take Russell. JMO

I get a kick out of these fans. EVERY FREE AGENT THAT COMES TO TOWN, WE GOTTA HAVE'M! Fellas... I understand the excitement, but last time I checked, we are only allowed 53 players. I'm not saying I wouldn't take Smith, but not to replace Roye. He's been the only rock on our D line. Maybe if Smith was on the right side with Wimbley, might be a good addition. I could see things happening there. But, That still wouldn't stop me from getting Branch or Okoye. If we make that trade with Falcons, I think that may very well happen.

Well, Steinbach was apparently VERY impressed with our organization. Of course, if you told me you'd give 49.5 million over the next 7 years, I'd say that too. Who knows?

And I get a kick out of people making assumptions that have absolutely zero truth to them like this one. There is no trade deal in the works with Atlanta. All that was ever said was what someone thought Phil should ask for IF a team was looking to trade down, namely Atlanta. Completely hypothetical.

Where in that thread or in the accompanying article does it say that a trade offer was ever put on the table?? It says what the two sides would be interested in acquiring in said trade but there was never an offer to be found. And the article that the poster got that from is called NFL Draft News & RUMORS !! Now, unless I am missing something, this holds no merit at all.

He probebly liked the fact, there were no Policemen or, patty wagons bringing players to practice, and the fact there was no bob-wire fence with rifle towers at each corner of the complexs. He probebly liked the Fact chris henry wasnt stoned or passed out in the parking lot....

That's the same number anyone else would have offered him. Going into it, everyone knew it would take a Hutchinson-type deal to land Steinbach, and anyone interested in him was going to pony up a similar deal.
The Bills giving almost the same deal to Dockery makes Steinbach look like a bargain.

Well you said it was completely hypothetical , and yet there it is, in writing. So it isn't that far fetched even if it is only a rumor.

Yeah, I know Cap. I was just being facetious about Steinbach's motivations for being so impressed with our FO when I have heard quite the contrary from other sources around the league and within our own locker room, to be quite honest.

I can understand why some people aren't enamored with Savage.
But he's done some good things, maybe more than people give him credit for.
Two years in a row he lands the highest ranked OL in free agency and shows he is willing to spend the money to get it done. Also shows he knows OL is a weakness.
His 2006 draft looks like it has the potential to be pretty good.
I think this comment is misplaced, personally...but that's JMO.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

"called NFL Draft News & RUMORS !! Now, unless I am missing something, this holds no merit at all." Never said it had merit, but trading down is a very distinct possibility. The article mearly pointed this out and that they thought it would be a good trade for the Falcons. This is no different than people saying.. "We're gonna get Thomas, or "we're gonna get Peterson" and so forth. All I was doing was presenting a possible scenario.

ok dawgbreath. no biggie. I just don't want people thinking we have a trade with Atlanta in the works when there really isn't anything besides talk on a message board. You're right, it's no different from saying "We're going to take AP with #3 overall". But just because it is said doesn't make it any more of a possibility.

If Thomas is gone, and Calvin is there we should trade our pick ( Tampa, Minny, Atlanta, shoot maybe even the Patriots could be interested) If Thomas is there draft him within .00002 seconds

The key word in your quote is "apparently". There is no definate source even quoted other than a newspaper reporting it. Guess what, the Plain Dealer reported in January that the Browns would hire Jim Tressel after the BCS Championship. Do you see hiim ni Berear?

I don't know why everyone is talking about who we're gonna draft in the first round on this thread. While it seems like Joe Thomas has a shot of slipping past the Lions, I doubt we will take him since we are set at the tackles for at least 2007 and Savage clearly wants a Qb or Rb with #3. We are gonna take Peterson or Quinn - whichever is higher on his board (Peterson prolly), and probably take an OT, DT, or CB in round 2 it seems.
Regarding Robaire Smith I really hope we sign him because he could be a great RDE for us for a couple years and really bolster our weak run defense. He would help Wimbley a lot more than McKinley and Eason did at getting to the QB too.
