Look into other tablets if you are thinking about an ipad.
The lack of Java is a biggie for me. Samsungs look cool.

you can but if you don't have a physical keyboard (which could be fixed with a bluetooth keyboard, granted), spreadsheets would be a pain.

Can you create and edit and save them? Is it a full Excel program?

That defeats the purpose of a tablet. If you are going to use a tablet as a laptop, might as well go with the laptop and get better hardware.

It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

Actually, it doesn't defeat the purpose at all, it gives you the best of both worlds.
If you need it to behave like a laptop, it can.. but you can still pick it up and walk around and use it as a tablet.

it's not excel, but you can export in excel with some of those programs. For simple databases i'm sure its not a problem. Now if your doing very complex excel spreadsheets then its probably not for you. I only have experience with numbers (apples version of excel) on my macbook. I've dabbled with excel over the years, and while i'm not an expert i do ok.

With numbers i did things easily that i could not do with excel. Graphs, importing them into documents...ect

stop at the apple store and play with one....ask some questions...ipads are cool, but i've got my macbook so i can see spending the money.

I had an iPad2 at my house all weekend from work.

Think I used it to surf Netflix from my living room chair for about 20 mins and that's about it.

I think it would be a good tool for someone who travels a lot and doesn't want to carry a heavy laptop, but as a substitute for a laptop or PC I don't think it is.

My spreadsheets are multple pages, interconnected formulas leading to a conclusion page at the end.. I think that's complex but I'm not sure anyone else would LOL I have my doubts about it working for me.
