Meriweather sucks...don't want him....like at all...no upgrade over Young/Adams

DE Ford, CB Hanson and WR Gilyard otoh would be at the top of my list

Other names that stand out to me: ILB Gooden (BAL) and surprisingly a couple of Buffalo cuts: OL Wrotto, CB Corner, G M.Jean-Gilles (CIN, Heckert drafted him), CB Wade (CIN), CB P.Cox (DEN), S Afalava (IND), G DeVan (IND), DT T.Harris (IND), CB C.Butler (PIT)

Half the Eagles cuts look like nice adds: DE Hunt, DE Teo-Nesheim (3rd rounder 2010), DT Landri, G/C McGlynn, RT Tupou, RT Harris

Lots of cuts still to be made official...I would keep around 45 from our guys right now, lol

Keep a eye on the Eagles guys since Heckert had a hand in drafting them.

I really want the Hunt guy from the Iggles. He had a monster pre-season. And since it is Christmas give me some of that Gooden guy from BAL.

Chargers cut WR L.Robinson who started 11 games under Shurmur in STL last season (34 catches, 344yds, 2 TDs)..and WR Ajirotutu, who as a UDFA rook last season caught 13 balls for 262yds and 2 TDs...Dallas cut DE Olshansky...Texans released 5th round S Keo...def. would like to add him as our #4 S...he has potential

Due to the lockout and lack of trades and early cuts this year there's much more talent being cut...Miami cut all their FBs and just kept Fasano at TE, lol...I would really fill our last 5-10 spots with cuts..esp. DL and OL depth...maybe 1 WR, a RB, 3rd QB, CB, S, 1-2 LB...almost any position except TE we would could sign a better player for the last spot than what we have...will be a busy day for Heckert and his people

edit: wow, RB Slaton seems to be a cut from HOU and STL just waived WR Avery...I think we could sign a better WR cast than what we have, lol and sad at the same time

Waiver priority (and on who to use in what order) will be crucial...there's some serious talent out there

edit 2: Bengals cut 2010 3rd round CB Ghee? wow, I liked him back in that draft...might be worth a look

edit 3: Pats release WR Tate, Bucs DE Magee, DT Al Woods...Titans has some "names" in DE Ford, WR Gage, LB Curran, S V.Fuller

If we can get Slaton we need to! He would be perfect matched with Hillis!

other names I am interested in Brandon Tate, Will Allen

What happened to Slaton?

He started out like a house on fire his 1st year in the league ... with 1200 yards rushing and almost 400 yards receiving ..... then his production dropped like a rock. He appeared in 12 games last year and had 93 yards rushing and 11 yards receiving for the year.

That is a scary drop off in productivity. Sure they brought in Foster, and he became a force at RB ..... but Slaton dropped to 3rd .... and maybe even 4th on the depth chart before falling off it entirely this year. That really worries me.

In no particular order guys I think we'll take a look at or "I" would be interested in from those mentioned above...

OG Max Jean-Gilles
DE Phillip Hunt
DE Daniel Teo-Nesheim
RB Steve Slaton
DT Al Woods
WR Brandon Tate

Definitely some interesting names out there. You'd think at least a couple would get a call from us.

If I remember correctly and I might not, didn't he have a neck injury then some fumbling issues? I am pretty confident with the fumbling comment not as much re: the neck injury.

Robert Hughes was cut. In the same mold as Hillis as he is a Fullback that has played tailback. He has some speed and is a punisher..I would say bye to Marecic and bring him aboard in a second..also good at catching the ball out of the backfield..goes about 245.

Here's my list of guys I'd at least have to think about

Max Jean-Gilles, Cincy
Brandon Merriweather, NE
Brandon Tate, NE
Brandon Underwood, GB
Brandon Saine, GB
Igor Olshansky, Dal
Colin Cole, Sea

Slaton isn't on Houston's list of cuts

Edit: Holy cow, I just noticed all the Brandons. That's odd.

Strange....Slaton is listed here:

http://www.gbnreport.com/cutdownday.htm

but not here:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82...ll-32-nfl-teams

Final Browns cuts btw:

Cleveland Browns

OL Dominic Alford, OL Branndon Braxton, QB Jarrett Brown, DL Andre Carroll, WR L.J. Castile, FB Tyler Clutts, LB Archie Donald, OL Calton Ford, DB Coye Francies, TE Evan Frosch, DB Carl Gettis, LB Eric Gordon, DL Travis Ivey, WR Chris Matthews, LB Steve Octavien, RB Quinn Porter, DL Ko Quaye, DB Ramzee Robinson, DL Brian Sanford, OL Jarrod Shaw, LB Brian Smith, DB DeAngelo Smith, LB Sidney Tarver, OL Phil Trautwein, WR Rod Windsor

RB B.Jackson on IR

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...84-530c5da2d3b3

Can't believe Ventrone is still on that team...also, A.English, Jacobs, Dockery, T.Brown, Cousins, Greco, Hagg, Norwood, Paxson, A.Smith, Vallos, Murray and even 4th TE A.Smith made the roster...FOR NOW...I expect and hope for some upgrades...no problem with cutting 10 of those guys...only 7 DL, at least 1 or 2 will be added, 10 WR/TEs...at least 1 will get cut

Anybody know what happens if we pick a player up? If we add a player then our roster becomes 54. How long before we would need to cut somebody to get back to 53?

Trent Edwards?

You want a QB the RAIDERS didn't want? The same guy who couldn't succeed in Buffalo OR Jacksonville?

...Nah I'm good, thanks

I saw on NFL.com that Lawrence wilson was released. If giving is going to stay hurt, he could be a good backup to Maiava.

I also thought Smith was a nice surprise in preseason. Bummed they let him go.

If we want to keep a 3rd QB, yes. Especially after watching Seneca if the preseason.

Shopping for guards

The Browns could go after Artis Hicks, a 10-year veteran guard released by the Redskins on Saturday. As a vested veteran, he is an unrestricted free agent and does not have to go through waivers.

According to a report in the Washington Post, the Browns and Redskins discussed a trade involving Hicks but could not agree to terms.

Is Lito Sheppard to far gone to be considered?

The Carey cut is why I rail against fans that constantly beat up on FO staffs when they cut a guy they draft.

They apparently saw something they didn't like,, boom, he's gone.. Jax gave him more of a chance, but in the end,, Gone,

And for those same reasons, you can't put any stock in message board opinions on players with so little exposure. Carey barely did anything here yet was deemed a big loss when he didn't clear waivers.

Of course, just because a player was released doesn't mean he's not good. Sometimes the depth on a team is simply too good which pushes an inexperienced player down the chart until he gets cut. If he's picked up by a team with much less depth he may find himself much higher on that depth chart.

Just like you can't use individual stats to evaluate a player because his success is highly dependent on the other players, neither can we assume a player is bad simply because someone cuts him. In both cases there are just so many variables in play.

True enough, what I believe is that if a poster is predisposed to not liking a Coach or FO staffer, they use stuff like the Carey Cutting as an example of them being inept.

Time proves things out, one way or another. as it has so far in this case.

I'm confident that Carey will get picked up by another team.. maybe he makes it, maybe not.. we'll see.

Carey wasn't cut. He was waived/injured, where he was claimed off of waivers by Jacksonville. It was done because he needed season-ending shoulder surgery, but putting directly on IR would've cost the Browns a preseason roster spot. A minor technicality but still a technicality nonetheless.

Right. The inpetness wasn't about Carey the player, as nobody knew what he could become at that time, it was risking to lose a 6th rounder talent for a short term camp body who was a sure fire cut anyway...that was dumb, no matter who the player

Yeah, I remember that.. and yet, Mangini got hammered like crazy for taking Carey then letting him get away.. the point I was trying to make still stands..

I think we should pick up that Nance guy ..... because then we could lead the league in guys names "Dimitri".

I'm not arguing your point. I'm stating that saying the FO "cut" a player implies that they didn't want the player on the team. Waiving the player injured with the intent to put him on injured reserve indicates the opposite.

At the time it was regarded, as Django pointed out, as a stupid, short-sighted move. With two years of hindsight, I don't think anyone cares one way or the other that we didn't hang on to Don Carey.

It really wasn't short sighted though. Teams had done that many, many times, and there was an unwritten rule that other teams would not touch a guy waived in such a manner.

Jacksonville decided to buck tradition.

No biggie ..... but if something is done for 5 or more years ... dozens of times, and you get the same outcome ...... then it is done one more time with a different outcome, then is it really a foolish decision on the part of the person who got that single, completely different outcome?
