The Indians just called to see if I could be in uniform tomorrow. I told them that my back is a mess, and I have a hernia ........ but they said that I would still be healthier than 2/3 of the team so they'd like me to try and get there ......

Somehow the team has scored 7 runs today though. I have no clue how ......

Seriously though .... Fukudome has been a life saver. A lot of people, myself included, gave the "Huh, What, Who???" when we traded for him ..... but I kinda hope they bring him back next year. He's been effective at the plate no matter what spot they plug him in to, and has played well in the field no matter where they play him.

we do have plenty of depth. Duncan came up huge today. Donald has filled in nicely. That's the thing, we have plenty of utility guys, but not the heavy hitter that could do it every day.

Hopefully the tigers lose today, and we're only 5.5 out going into tommorrow.

16-0 Detroit...and it's only the 7th inning. White Sox are done.

We needed the Sox to sweep, but we got the opposite. Oh well.

Mark Buhrle is freaking Sandy Koufax against us, and he threw BP for the Tigers last night. It's annoying.

Thome needs to be out of the lineup as well. All he does is strike out. The front office got the wrong twin. The Tigers add Delmin Young, who is in the prime of his career, while we got Thome, whom has done nothing since he's been here. Plus they got Fister, who has outperformed Ubaldo since the 2 trades were made. The season is just about done with. Good year however.

i kicked dirt on them a few weeks ago, now i'm just gonna put the tombstone up.

even if they somehow come back and win 2 of 3, probably not enough.

manny acta and those guys should be proud, they put up an unbelievable fight. it was stacked against them most of the year.

the front office should be ashamed of themselves. ownership should be ashamed of themselves. i can't wait to see them spin this...

not make the ubaldo trade.

go out and get a legitimate right handed bat.

they'll spin the ubaldo thing into "well we got agressive like everyone asked" when in reality it was a bargain opportunity.

starting pitching was so good all year, the bullpen was amongst the very best in the league, and their answer to that was ubaldo jimenez, fukudome, and jim thome, who arrived too little, too late.

how horrible do the cc and cliff lee trades look a few years later? My GOD we got taken to the cleaners. those teams knew we were going to unload them and we got michael brantley and a bunch of pieces/parts for 2 cy young award winners early in their respective primes.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and see what they do this offseason. If Ubaldo will get a hold of his command, he will help us a lot the next 2 years. The stuff is still there. You could never have enough pitching, especially with carrasco probably not pitching next year.

Hopefully with Sizemore off the books, they could make a run at a right handed bat. Maybe someone like Jeff Francouer, or Melky Cabrera. With Kipnis playing full time next year, that should help the offense. You would have to think Santana will get his average up.

You still have to give those trades another year or two. It took the royals Alex Gordon forever to start playing like he is now. Maybe laporta needs some more time to get it going. You also still have Jason Knapp down in the minors, who was a big part of the lee trade. At the end of the day, we fleeced boston for Masterson, and La for Santana. You have to take the good with the bad.

well that about wraps up the chance for playoffs, it was a good run but once again the FO really screwed this team again by not getting it what it needed, absolutely HATE the ubaldo trade, he was junk with his old team and junk here..we need RH bats bad...i am excited about some of the young pieces we got though

It's not over yet.

The Indians need to win the series with Detroit. They can still do that.

I didn't like the Jiminez trade all that much at first .... but I think that he'll do well for us next year. I just have this feeling. He really didn't pitch badly today ..... Victor just happened to get hold of one.

I think that the FO tried to add a right handed bat or 2 ...... but if no one is selling, and/or if a player won't waive his no trade clause to come here, then what can ya do? I kinda think that I'd like to see the Indians re-sign Fukudome next year. He's done a nice job since he came to Cleveland. We do need a right handed power bat .... but the guys whose names were tossed around weren't exactly awe inspiring. Ryan Ludwick?

We do need to win this series with the Tigers .... so that means we need the next 2. It will be hard to win the division if we leave this series down 7 or 8. Down 5 ..... that's doable.

winning the series probably won't happen since verlander doesn't pitch till weds, and i wouldn't be surprised to see detroit sweep us. We just don't have the bats to keep up, our pitchers have to be absolutely perfect to get W's. and 7.5 games out, yeah thats not going to be very doable, I think we needed a sweep this series to even make it close. detroit has good offense, their pitching isn't as bad as some thing outside of verlander and they have a lights out closer in valverde. We have a lineup that is made up of mostly minor league players, a shaky closer. I hope kipnis, sizemore and hafner coming back gives us a spark. but this lineup strikesout waay too much, i mean 13k's today against Lister? not to mention we lead the AL in them at 8 per game, thats horrible and not going to get you into the playoffs. So imo, we are done this year, i hope to be wrong, but i don't think we got the horses, too many injuries and not enough bats. There is enough games left, but i don't think as hot as detroit is and as good as they play us at home..

We definitely have a TON of injuries. It seems like every time someone really gets going, they get hurt.

If worse comes to worse, then we add a few pieces next year and make a huge run. I think the future looks really bright.

there are some things to look forward to in the future. Masterson going forward, Kipnis, Asdrubal keeping pace, Santana maybe smartening up (I've given up on Laporta) maybe Chinsenall turns the corner...

but this organization needs to spend money if they want to contend. I understand that they can't go and drop 25m a year over 7 years on a guy, but in the past they have shown that they aren't going out in free agency and filling needs. I mean Kerry Wood, really?

They're not going to do it, and you just know they are gonna throw the fact that they competed all the way until September as an excuse not to, just like they used the fact that the team played so well after the all star break last year. It's the Dolan cycle. I love Manny and those players, but I have zero faith that the Dolans are going to actually put the funds forward to make a legitimate championship team on the field.

They need to make sure guys like Masterson and Tomlin stick around, but do you have faith that those guys will be here in 5 years? I don't.

we would have an ok offense if everyone was healthy.Brantley, kipnis, cabrera, hafner, choo, santana, fukodome, hanahan, and marson. But yea, right now, more guys are from columbus.

Not sure why you're calling perez shaky.. Guy has converted 32/36, with an era under 3. Not too many closers could say that. I know he makes it interesting more times than not, but the guy is a top 5 closer.

We probably won't get in, but to me this was a very exciting year of baseball. Never seen so many last at bat wins and comebacks. Outside of a 3 week stretch we were in almost every game. Overall, just didn't have enough hitting to get to the postseason. Outside of a few games, I watched/listened to all of the games.

as hard as i've been on these guys, the fact that they are/were still revelant is amazing. No team could survive the dl stints this team has. Coming in to this year, this would have been best case senario without the injuries. Well done tribe!

Yep ... I think ESPN.com had us ranked dead last in the majors at the begining of the season. This was still supposed to be a rebuilding year for 2012 and 2013.

Indeed. This has been a fun year to be a Tribe fan. This team has been scrappy all season long. Unfortunately, it just looks like we're too hurt and a bit too young to keep pace with a Detroit team that seems to be getting it all together at just the right time.

Season's not over yet, but win or lose, these guys have a lot to be proud of and a lot to build on going forward.

In April and May it was fun to be a Tribe fan. Lately its been fraught with disappointment. Figures that it would be Carmona who finally put this season out to pasture.

I would say that the fat lady is definitely warming up her pipes, getting ready to sing.

It's been a fun year. I hope that all of the experience that damn near everyone we had at AAA got at the Major League level this season will pay off next year.

umm, well yeah.

still have plenty to root for (finishing over .500, Ubaldo building some confidence for next season, young players continuing to develop), but it'll take a Rockiesque style run to catch them now.

kudos to the Tigers for slamming the door on both us and chicago.

Good point.

I figured it was a comment towards the Tribe on two fronts:

1. Stick a fork in them, it's over
2. They are poo

And yes, congrats to the Tigers for dropping a beatdown on the Sox and Indians to close out the division. That's the way you treat teams that are lesser than you at the end of a season.

Hey, I resemble that remark. lol

I see nothing wrong with holding out hope until such time as we reach a hopeless situation.

We needed at least 2 of 3 against the Tigers to stay in this race ..... but we didn't get it. Injuries have caught up to us, and our AAA team can't beat their Major League team. 9 1/2 games out at this point is as close to insurmountable as you can find. We gave it one hell of a run though ..... even with massive injuries.

The thing that hurt today was that we finally got to Verlander ..... and Masterson decided to have a rough outing. I think that he's wearing down.

I am excited as can be about next year though. Add a couple of right handed bats and we'll be in the playoffs for sure. (or as sure as anything gets in sports .... we'll be in great shape to compete for a spot anyway)

Not even 3 weeks ago they were just 1.5 games out. As mediocre as they were, they had every chance to get it done. Detroit was just better. If they could get another starter to contribute besides Verlander, they could make it to the world series. they have everything else. No shame losing to these guys.

I know he takes alot of flak at times, but there is little denying that he has done alot of good things as well. Shapiro moving onto a big market club and taking some of our methodologies to use with a much bigger budget is intriguing as an idea (and scary in that he'll be taking away some of the draft prospects and FAs that we would also covet).

note: this is only a 1way interest at this point (shapiro to cubs)

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/rumblings110913/detroit-tigers-roaring-postseason

Quote:

We've heard lots of famous names connected with the Cubs' general manager gig. Well, here's one fascinating name we haven't heard: Indians president (and longtime GM) Mark Shapiro.

According to people in the game who are close to Shapiro, he would be "intrigued" by the Cubs' job, and has always looked at the Cubs as a special franchise. Those people describe Shapiro as being happy where he is and not looking to leave Cleveland. But the Cubs' job represents such a unique set of compelling circumstances, they believe that if Shapiro were approached, he "probably would listen."

There are no indications the Cubs have spoken with him. And when Rumblings contacted Shapiro, he declined comment. But he seems to fit the profile of the kind of GM that new owner Tom Ricketts is hunting for.

Shapiro grew up around the game, spent nearly two decades working in baseball operations in Cleveland before becoming club president, was in the forefront in embracing new technologies, has exceptional people skills and is still only 43. So he is a name that "makes a lot of sense for them," said an official of one AL team. "I could see the combination of the baseball challenge, along with the Cubs' other challenges, having great appeal to him."

I hear the Cubs are going to chase Theo Epstein.

How would this look on your resume:

yeah, and it's not like the Cubs don't have the resources. they just were dumb going for the quick fix (FAs) rather than spending like mad in the draft and then sprinkling in a major FA acquisition (or trade using those prospects) to put them over the top.

Cubs do have some talent though. Garza, Wells, Marmol as pitchers (even Dempster isn't a terrible 3rd/4th guy). Castro, Barney, Aramis in the IF. They just have very little depth in the minors, no huge power threat with the bat (except for the inevitable 3week stretch every year where Aramis is on fire), and no bullpen (again speaks to the depth of their system).
