As my family can attest, I love a good sandwich. Maybe I just like eating with my hands, I don't know, but there is nothing better then a good sandwich with a cold beer as a wash.
With football season upon us, maybe we can share "our" favorite sandwich. There will be lot's of Saturday and Sunday afternoons spent in the easy chair watching the game ,munching on some grub and sipping a brew or 5.
The key element for me is ease of preparation. If it's something that require a lot of prep or takes forever to make, it never hits my hands.
For me, the best sandwich in creation is the Cuban. It's the perfect sandwich...yummy, big, and easy to handle.
Here is my quick version of the Cuban....it takes 2 minutes to put together and maybe 3 minutes to toast.
Tools and Ingredients:
George Foreman Grill
1 Italian sandwich loaf
2 slices hard salami
1-2 slices plain ole boiled ham slices(depends on size of the slice)
2-3 oz pulled pork. (I can buy tubs at the grocery that are already cooked....it can't have sauce....just plain smoked pork. This is the time saver....I do them with Cuban roasted pork, but that is another process that goes against the spirit of this thread)
1-2 slices Swiss cheese
2 slices of dill pickle cut the length of the pickle....not the chips.
Mustard
On the roll, toss the salami on bottom, then the ham. Add a liberal amount of the mustard.
Pile on the pork and cover with cheese.
Cover with the dill slices.
Press in the Foreman for 2-3-4 minutes....until the cheese is melting.
Cut the sandwich from the top left top the bottom right and you have it....the perfect sandwich.
Note: You can man up on the portions if you want.....pile it on, but stick to the basic proportions....the salami and ham are to compliment the pork.
You also need the pickles... pickle in every bite.
Let's hear it....I want a new second favorite sandwich just as I hope this becomes yours.

Boy, that does sound good, 'Peen. I'm not a big ham guy, but I might have to put that aside to give this a shot. For me, I absolutely love the old fashioned PB&J. The key to mine is I put the PB and the J on the same piece of bread, then just put the other piece of bread on top. Then, I smush it down so it's almost flat. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Certainly not as exotic as yours, but I could polish off a whole loaf of bread with them, I think.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I did some extensive traveling in the far east when I was in my 20's.
If it wasn't for my Mom sending peanut butter, Grandmama's muscadine jam, and sardines as a treat, I would have starved between the local food and government issued.

Sorry about this, but this one you can't make on your own ... or you could try but I'm sure it wouldn't taste the same. If I had to comprise a list of my list of Top 5 reasons why I would never leave Vegas, this sandwich would be on the list. It is from a sandwich shop called Capriottis. They make a sandwich there that is simply the best sandwich I've ever eaten anywhere. Grilled Pastrami, Swiss Cheese, Cole Slaw, Russian Dressing ... I add grilled hot and sweet peppers (hots and sweets is the proper terminology when ordering) and extra Russian. I'm not a big swiss cheese guy, and I don't really care for cole slaw. But the ingredients married together are absolutely amazing. I know people that come to visit and want to head straight there from the airport. It is quite simply the best sandwich I've ever eaten. For all the visitors that might stay at one of the Station Casinos off the strip, there is a Capriottis in the food court of Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock Station. I'm not sure how close the closest one is to the Strip. But look it up and try it the next time you're here. I'm sure you'll be thanking me later.

First of all, on the food network, the guy who won the Next Food Network Star competition has a show solely about sammiches...not sure that time or day. I made a killer sandwich this weekend. I didn't jot down a recipe, but this is going to be close enough... Carne Asada pulled pork 1 pork loin (I'll guess it was about 4 lb) 1 package Carne Asada spice mix ( link) 2 cups water 1 large white onion Slice pork loin into 4 somewhat equal sized pieces, and place it and all other ingredients into a crock pot and put on high for at least 2 hours. The pork will literally fall apart at this point, use a fork or other fave utensil to "pull" it. If you wanted to mellow out the spices a little, I'd add more water or maybe a 1/4 cup of honey. Add your favorite cheese to your favorite bun. (I added cojita on one and pepper jack on another). I also added pickled some Red Chiles and Red Onions and added them on top - nice texture change, and the sweetness countered the spiciness a little.

I'm a big fan of the simple club sandwich.
3 pieces of grilled bread with melted swiss and american on 2 of them. Then add ham, turkey, bacon, roast beef, lettuce, tomato, mayo and sandwich bread and butter pickles. (the long cut ones)
Stack it up, nice and high on the skillet .... melt it all together ..... and enjoy.

My favourite sandwich is pretty simple. Whole wheat bread, leftover roast beef, mustard, pepper. Slap together, cut in half. Serve.

Leftover roast beef always makes a good sandwich. I generally have mayo, lettuce, and tomato on mine.

This is our new fave.
Sassy Tailgate Sandwiches (I know, the official name is stupid)
1 pkg. (12 count) Hawaiian Bread Rolls 1 lb. shaved black forest ham 12 slices Gruyere cheese 1 tub (8 oz.) Philadelphia Chive and Onion Cheese Spread 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted (don't use anything diet) 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1/2 Tbsp. dried minced onion 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
Cut rolls in half. Place roll bottoms in a 9 by 13 pan. Place equal amounts of ham on each roll bottom and top with Gruyere.
On each of the roll tops, spread a generous amount of the cream cheese spread. Put tops over bottoms to make a sandwich.
In a separate bowl, mix together the butter, Worcestershire sauce, minced onion and Parmesan Cheese. Pour over the sandwiches and let sit for at least 20 minutes. (You can make these ahead of time and let sit overnight in the fridge)
Place the sandwiches, covered in foil, in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until warmed through. Makes 12.

Tongue. Slice up some precooked tongue heat it up in a little butter. Put it on white bread with some salt. Better than any roast beef sandwich. Dont knock it if you havent tried it.

I make a pretty mean grilled chesse sandwich. Texas toast with white cheddar cheese, sharp provolone, and monterey jack! Yes indeed, a perfect combo of cheese makes for a killer grilled cheese sandwich. It is easy to switch it up a little and add favorite meats such as ham, salami, turkey, or whatever is in the fridge. I had the best pulled pork sandwich today at LeeRoy Selmon's. It had pickles on it as well. The sauce is out of this world. You get down this way you should stop in Selmon's, everything on the menu is top of the line. Ice cold beer to wash it down with....good stuff!

I've driven past Lee Roy Selmons a few times but have yet to eat there. As usual, I googled it to get reviews after reading the posts regarding his restaurant. The top headline showed a post 2min old saying he had a stroke and is in serious condition. That was weird.

Anyways, back to one of my sandwiches.
Marinate a tri-tip bottom sirloin roast. Remove from the fridge and allow to come to room temp 2-3 hours before you grill.
Grill to medium rare and allow to sit for 15 minutes
Mix mayo, goat cheese, and garlic and apply to a fresh deli roll
slice the roast, add a healthy amount on the bun and top with meunster cheese, sauteed onions, and bake until melted.

Bingo I thought I had eaten good pastrami before, but this place made every pastrami sandwich I had ever eaten had seem pedestrian. Simply melts in your mouth.
I also like how they shave off some slices of meat for you to try at the counterwhile your sandwich is being made. Their corned beef is amazing as well.

Not sure why my mom ever called this recipe "Italian Roast Beef" but here it is:
Beef roast Onion soup mix Water Worcestershire Sauce
Put in slow cooker for several hours until beef is tender and falls apart. Keep in slow cooker and pull beef apart in juice.
Kaiser roll Provolone cheese Beef
Don't need anything else, but if you did, I'd going with a spicy mustard or horseradish.

What kind of bread?
I'm not sure what kind of bread. It's some type of sub role. Soft, kind of fluffy...maybe a little chewy. It's also very good.
I'm telling everyone that comes to Vegas. Look up Capriottis and order the Capistrami with grilled hots, sweets, and extra Russian dressing. It might just be the highlight of your trip.

Because that is your basic Italian beef recipe. It doesn't hurt to add a dash of oregano if you want to make it more Italian

Ah ha! Now I understand. LOL! Was not aware of that and none of the ingredients seemed particularly Italian. It's very yummy! Think I'll have to make it soon and add some spicy gardeniera (sp) on it.

Oh man Peen, Cubans are great.
This place down the road from me called Yolo has some great Cubans. My fav there is a Mojito Chicken Cuban that rocks. With their festival style fries....good eating for sure.
Let's see.....well, if you want something quick and easy, I love making a simple melt. Which is basically a glorified grilled cheese with meat thrown in. Preferably turkey and bacon. You can use a variety of bread and cheese in them.
The simplest that I'll make is basically a couple slices of buttered bread, some smoked turkey breast, some cheddar or a sharp american cheese, and bacon slices. Grill it up. Super simple.
I think one that I have made, which is probably really unhealthy, but not hard to make, could be my fav. Little more time involved, but not huge if you buy the pre-made stuff.
I use some of the garlic cheese ciabatta bread from the freezer section for the roll, and heat up a breaded chicken breast. I'll get some frozen Tyson ones and just heat them. Throw on top some chunky marinara sauce and some parmesan cheese, and instead of sliced cheese, I heat up some mozzarella sticks, place them on top of the sauce, put the top bun on, and smash it down. So you got the cheese sticks with the marinara together, the chicken parm aspect in it, and the garlic bread aspect. And the cheese sticks count as the cheese.....yeah, probably a crap ton of calories, but man does it hit the spot.

Sorry guys, I was talking about the sandwiches they served at his restaurant, then found out he had died.
Not the proper place to post about his death, jumped the gun...he was a pretty good person in the Tampa Bay area, and has a bunch of restaurants in this area.
It is true, I should have started another thread concerning his death, I stand wrong for that one!
Either way, hope he rests in peace, he seems to have been a really good person.

Not really much of a sandwich eater. But love the usual P&B sandwich.
