No, but I wish he was still posting here.
He might not agree with me here, but he would agree that PRS are a dime a dozen. Both Benard and English were up against backups this preseason, so all things where pretty equal.
Give me a DE who can play 1st and 2nd down over a PRS on any given Sunday.
I'm not surprised by the response from some of you, but there are only a hand full of posters here who's opinion I value when it comes to player evaluation.
I will reiterate for those who might have a reading comprehension problem.
PRS are a dime a dozen.

What I know is that Benard developed in his time here so far. He became a capable LB, and an excellent pass rusher. Now he is switching back to DE. He has 2 things that you absolutely cannot teach; speed and determination. He worked his ass off moving from the practice squad to the main roster. I suspect that he will continue to work hard, and improve moving back to his natural DE position. I look forward to seeing his further development this year. If you don't agree ... then what do you know anyways? lol As far as English ... I thought that he played very, very well this pre-season. I was surprised that he was waived. Further, I was stunned that they only kept 7 DL. Usually a 4-3 team keep a minimum of 8, and sometimes even 9. It would not surprise me to see them bring a guy like English back up when some injuries to other positions heal up. The kept as many LB as they did DL. That's not normal for a 4-3 team. They kept a ton of DBs. The team had a lot of injuries to both LB and DB .... with guys still recovering ..... so I suspect that the roster will be rebalanced once guys either get healthy, or wind up on IR.

FL, that comment was a bit over-the-top... Generally people go on Internet message boards to share/compare opinions with other people. if you don't care about what anyone else says then why come on here? Add the two grammatical errors and it was like the stereotypical awful message board post.
For the record, I agree with the poster who said we should start Shears at LE and rotate in Mitchell while having Benard and English share RDE duties.

I hope Benard will prove to be a complete 3 down player, but the dogma has always been that he is a PRS and now all of a sudden he is more then that. GMAFB.

I'm excited about getting Quinton Spears! Turns out that's one of my wife's friend's son.... Will have to wait to see if he gets on the field much... but nice to cheer for someone I have some ties to!

Hmm ... wonder why clevelandbrowns.com has Benard still listed as a LB? I knew that didn't seem right .... but I looked at the roster 3 or 4 times and it still eluded me.

I just hope that he is a quick learner, because we are truly thin at LBer. He might be our only healthy LBer Sunday.

He seems to have the size to be a good run blocker, I just wonder how his pass protection is....anybody got anything?

When you use a question mark you need only one. Plus that was a statement not a question so no need any question marks at the end.
Dang dude, you gotta get this grammatical thing fixed. 
Just making light of the whole issue of not being allowed to have an opinion that doesn't agree with the "board consensus". I don't know why people will gang up on a guy who has an intelligent opinion and explains his reasoning behind it but God forbid it goes against the grain.
I suppose it's better to just agree with what everyone else believes. Not good for discussion or debate but it will keep the followers happy.

I don't think that the OL is a place to throw a rookie to the wolves who is trying to learn a new position at the same time he is trying to get up to speed with the speed of the game at this level.
He will be a short term solution at age 32 (NE signed Waters who is 34), but we can't afford to lose QB's over youth.

I am seeing/hearing that as well...I read a comment where they thought even Pinkston may go to RG and Lauvao to LG...the premise was that at least the rookie would not be protecting Colts blind side. (I think that may have been a message board comment posted somewhere and NOT a Browns coach or anyone else associated with the Browns.)
I gotta think they view Hicks as an immediate fill-in if Pinkston starts out slow.

I want Lavaou right where he is. His power is needed on the right side. I think if Pashos stays healthy, we could see a lot of running off the right side.

He is a player that Heckert is very familiar with and It's been said that we had trade discussions with the Redskins or maybe Heckert was simply putting some feelers out to see where he might be in their plans.
Probably right after we knew Steinbach was not going to be available to us this year.

Most defiantly a prudent move by Heckert 
"His 68 starting assignments during the regular season have come at left tackle (8), left guard (27), right guard (30) and right tackle (3). Last year with the Redskins, he played in 15 games with 10 starts at right guard."
He's a Jack and that's just what we need.

I agree, I think the Hicks signing was a very good one. We were razor-thin on o-line and now we have Pinkston as depth. The "Shears" thing happens when you post from an iPhone. As far as "message board gold," I was only referring to the dismissal of everyone else's opinion along with the noted grammatical errors. I don't have a big disagreement with you on the football stuff, and wasn't trying to use that as an indictment of your opinion at all. In fact, I was irritated they dropped English as well. I was just noting the hilarity of the outrage/poutiness that message boards are infamous for, and that we usually don't see on this one. FL, I look forward to your takes on prospects as much as anybody's on the board. I just thought that statement was so out of left field that it needed special attention.

Looks like we got our left guard.
jc...this is a move I absolutely thought Heckert would be making after it was learned that Steinie was done for the season...adding experienced OL help.
Signing an NFL veteran is going to mean that the Browns do not have to throw Pinkston into a starting job, before he is ready. The thought of rookie Pinkston at LG next to Mack with Lauvao who has just one NFL start at RG was going to be an invitation for blitz pressure up the middle.
The Browns can now allow Pinkston to gain experience at a slower pace, rather than throw him to the wolves.
When Pinkston is ready to start, great. But until he proves himself physically and mentally, the Browns can turn to their experienced backup Olinemen to step in and do the job.

Browns add to practice squad Posted 14 hours ago The Browns added a pair of linebackers to the practice squad, the team announced Monday evening. The Cleveland Browns today signed defensive lineman Auston English and linebacker Benjamin Jacobs to their practice squad, the team announced. Both had been waived by the Browns on Sunday. English recorded 11 tackles and an NFL-high four sacks this preseason. Jacobs, an undrafted rookie out of Fresno State, posted six tackles.

Glad to hear it,, English looked decent in Preseason.. don't know how that would translate to games against an opponents ones,,, but gotta be worth exploring..
