[ Pollian has been riding the Manning train his entire career

Except for the part where he helped to build the Bills in the 90's that went to 4 straight Sb's . Unless your talking about Mannings entire career.

On the subject that the Colts Owners says P Manning will be out a " while" I have to say.

I don't see the significane one way or the other. I refuse to buy the premise that this player is anything more to think about than just another player on another team that I don't root for which is not the Browns.

Hey I know maybe I won't have to watch him do his stupid stuuuuupppppiiiddd comercials on my playoff watch and superbowl ads, because he won't be filming comercials because his neck hurts.

To quote Evel Kinevil, " He ain't got no arms, he don't write no more books"
It is always fine to quote Evel Kinevil, and get well soon Mr player and stay off my T.V. screen .

So how long until Painter is in?

Why not just go ahead with the guy who's been in the system for years now?

Try the old "catch lighting in a bottle" gimmick?

Do they actually expect to win consitantly with Collins?

Well seeing as they can void the rest of Manning's contract after this season...

That might not be too bad of an idea...

i think that's silly talk.

1. why wouldn't you want Luck to see how Peyton works on and off the field and learn from him for at least a year. i can't imagine that would be a bad thing.

2. why would the Colts let Peyton walk for nothing. yeah, his contract is big. but, if he has clearance from doctor's then why wouldn't they trade him (and how many teams that have 'everything but the QB' wouldn't trade for Peyton friggin' Manning)

3. most likely scenario: if they win the Luck sweepstakes, then they can draft him and shop him around for a Ricky Williams / Herschel Walker style bounty.

3 surgeries in 19 months. If I'm Manning I gracefully retire while I can still sit upright.

I heard someone on a certain network say guys like Howie Long doesn't sit upright because he has good manners, It's cause his spine is fused in a way that he HAS TO SIT UP RIGHT...

Sounds ick to me...

strahan said that in an interview recently. basically talking about how he got the heck out of dodge once he started having hints of back issues after seeing what it had done to older guys like howie long, bruce smith, etc.

If Peyton Manning has played his final down in the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts might not be on the hook for the remainder of the five-year, $90 million contract extension the quarterback signed July 31.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reported Friday that Manning would be eligible for termination pay in the amount of $1 million in 2012 and $500,000 in 2013 if his recent neck surgery prevents him from playing again, according to a league source. Manning's contract includes a $28 million non-guaranteed option and a separate $28 million non-exercise fee in place if Indianapolis chooses not to pick up the previous option, the source told Lombardi.

According to Lombardi, terms of the deal leave a small window in which the Colts could cut Manning and not pay either sum, meaning he would earn $26.4 million in 2011.

Manning underwent single anterior fusion on his neck Thursday -- his third neck operation in the past 19 months -- and will miss the Colts' season-opener against the Houston Texans and possibly the rest of the season. The Colts gave no indication of a timetable for Manning's return, however, and indicated it wasn't their current intention to place the four-time MVP on the injured reserve list.

Dr. Wellington K. Hsu, an expert in operative treatment of cervical and lumbar degenerative disorders, told NFL.comThursday that depending on the type of procedure Manning had, most surgeons would allow him to resume training in six to eight weeks and he could possibly be back on the field after about four more weeks of rehab.

Hsu also said Manning isn't the first professional athlete to have this kind of surgery, and he believes the only four-time MVP in league history has a "very, very good prognosis for coming back."

Losing Manning for any period of time is a huge blow for the Colts and turns the AFC South on its head.

Manning has not missed a game in 14 seasons -- a streak of 227 consecutive starts, including the playoffs. The Colts will now turn to veteran Kerry Collins on Sunday against a Texans squad that believes this is the year they'll finally make the playoffs.

Collins, a 17-year veteran, signed with the Colts in late August after spending five seasons with the Tennessee Titans.

Fun facts

Freeney and Mathis are going to be handcuffed by the lack of offense.

Since 2004, that duo has posted 146 sacks. 73 apiece.
Of those 146, only 22 have come with the Colts trailing.

When the Colts get behind in games, teams will simply exploit that weak run defense of theirs and Mathis & Freeney will be effectively neutralized.
