I just thought I'd give a shout out to my alma mater YSU .... who thrashed and beat Valparaiso mercilessly, 77-13. (77 points scored is a new school record) Youngstown played #17 Michigan State tough last week while losing 28-6. (Obviously a complete mismatch, but they still hung in there)
I think YSU is in for a good year this year.

Way to go Penguins! My alma mater, Kent, is getting beat up by UL-Lafayette, and my other alma mater, Akron, is getting beat up by Temple. Also, I'm not a Notre Dame or a Michigan fan, but this game isn't really doing it for me. It's not a horrible game, but just looks like two mediocre teams, though Floyd is a beast. Also, get to listen to Musberger call all the guys by their first name.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

If you're looking for a better game than Michigan-Notre Dame turn to the Big Ten Network. Nebraska leads Fresno State 35-29 with a bit more than five minutes to go.

Also, is it just me or should Robinson have been picked off like 4 more times than he has been? He just chucks the ball up in the air! This has been one ugly game.

Hope he plays like this against OSU. Two straight throws that he should not have made (got bailed out on the first). They wouldn't be in the game if they were playing any other team.
EDIT: Well, I hope he doesn't throw two TD passes in the final two minutes to win the game.

Is that better than a QB with no legs and no arm?
I bet there are 100+ schools who would like him as their QB.
He was by no means sharp today but his "off day" was nearly 450 yards and 5 TDs.
Not half bad.

YSU alumnus here as well, I went to the game 5 bucks for tickets!
5 bucks for tickets next week I was told as well. Can't beat that.
It wasn't much of a game--more like a scrimmage. Best part was seeing my son in the band . . . he said his lips got tired of playing the fight song every time they scored! LOL

Gators managed their 2nd tune-up against UAB...not a total crap team but one that shouldn't have given us much trouble.
Demps went out hurt...that is a concern with the Vols next on the schedule.

I'm just pointing out that people are way too hard on Robinson.
He had 440 yards of total offense, 5 TD's and people want to nitpick him? Because he's not a statue throwing pin point laser beams?
He's adjusting to a new offense, which is obviously a little tough for him. But that doesn't discount how good of a football player he is.
I think he'll only get better as the year progresses. Will he ever be Peyton Manning? No, not even close. But he will win a lot of games and put up a ton of numbers.

punch and bigdat - heck of a game from the Rockets. hopefully, your boys can use it as a launching pad for a great season.
Buckeyes are in major trouble. They could escape Miami since they have some issues too, but I doubt it. Luckily, Colorado is terrible. But, Nebraska and Michigan State are going to punch us in the mouth (and I'm not sure our offense will bother to punch back).
I was thinking 9-3/8-4 this season and I'll stick by that for now. But, we need Braxton Miller to step up in practice enough to take snaps away from Bauserman (because the coaching staff obviously doesn't trust him yet).
--------------------------
and the ND game, ugh. michigan having only 30 seconds left and ND not having a safety back deep (or two) to swat down those balloon balls from Denard is just ridiculous. felt like I was watching a college flag football team defense (both sides of that game).
--------------------------
other big takeaway from the weekend was way back on Friday night. AZ States QB looks pretty darn good (Brock Osweiler). He's pocket-mobile, was throwing to spots, and was throwing strong. Weird to see a 6'8" guy towering over everyone throwing the ball, but he did a nice job.
Just someone that I'm going to try to catch a couple more times this year.

Penn State needs to force Jo Pa's hand like florida state did to bowden. That program has been stale forever, and I think they're handicapping the program, by not having a head coach contributing that much. I was watching that game Saturday, and it looked like Jo Pa could barely stay awake in the press box. He had no headset on, so obviously he isn't making decisions, or having any influence on the game.
You also have to think he contributes very little in recruiting. He's close to 85, and I don't think he could give the energy, or time like a young guy in his 40's or 50's. It's a shame he doesn't have sense to step down, and do what's best for the school.

I don't know if I'd compare JoePa to Florida State.
Florida State just became terrible. They were going 7-6 and playing in Music City Bowls.
Penn State, on the other hand, has gone 58-19 over the past 6 years.
Played in two BCS Bowls in the past 6 years (winning one, 05' Orange Bowl).
Shared the Big Ten title twice in the past 6 years, in a conference that was dominated by Ohio State.
I wouldn't say JoePa has run Penn State into the ground, but that's just my opinion.

Agreed on JoePa.
No one can deny the man has been a great coach and a phenomenal person for PSU over the years - but man, it's just sad that no one has the balls to make the right decision there.
Anytime you hear him in an interview it sounds like he's about 2 breaths from death. As you said, he clearly does nothing that would lead you to believe that he's actually coaching. It's my understanding that the last player he actually visited in recruiting was Pryor - Penn State has fallen past the point where a kid is going to go to PSU just because it's PSU. And in my opinion, the sadness of actually witnessing him die at a game someday is going to be FAR worse than all the good he's done over the years.
Someone has to be the grown up there and say "thank you for your years of service, Mr. Paterno, but it's over." Be it family or the university, someone has to do the right thing - because clearly Paterno is not at this point.

I was at the Kent v ULL game. I dont think beat up was a fair statement, our defense was tough and I think will be one of the best in the MAC this year. Our offense basically gave them 14 points. Then the torrential downpour came and nobody could do anything. I mean dude, it was a freaking monsoon. We stayed to the half and right as the second half was about to start there was a lightning strike and the delay started we were soaked to the bone and it was getting colder so me and my daughter left.

I've heard he wants to coach another couple of years, which would push him close to 90. Like you said, there's a very good chance he could die on the field.
If this program ever gets a high profile coach, I think they would become a national contender, right there with the other top programs. Right now they don't have that guy that could be the face of the program. No too many top recruits would want to go play at Penn State, when they lack a true leader at the top. Especially one that has little input, and a guy that could die at any time.

I think JoePa helps PaState more than he hurts. They have been a stable, good program since he gave much more reign to the rest of his coaching staff. He is basically a figurehead though he obviously has input into things. But, as long as recruits site JoePa as a positive reason to go there rather than a negative, then he'll remain.
Also, I feel he deserves his post. He hasn't taken a raise in 30yrs (he makes ~$170K/year), the program can manage to let him carry the torch.
Finally, when he does go, don't be surprised when they hand the HC job to Jay.

penn state got dominated saturday, but it was by an incredibly good team. No shame in that when you are in a year where your program just ain't all that. They aren't a top-25 team.

I can say with no hesitation that Maryland will LOOK better than WVU this Saturday.
As far as how they stack up I can't say that I know too much about what WVU has this year. My analysis of Maryland is pretty simple, do what you did against Miami but finish drives with TDs. They moved the ball up and down the field at will until they got into the red zone then their inability to run the ball hurt them. (Which is odd because they have typically been a good running team).
I look for it to be a pretty close game... WVU is 2-0 with wins over Marshall and Norfolk State so who knows. I know Norfolk State had them down at halftime until WVU exploded in the second half.
And if anybody would actually like to purchase one of the game jerseys or helmets worn against Miami, they are at auction here... web page Jerseys are running about $800 and the helmets at $1200... and people wondered why they wore them.

I saw some of WVU vs. Marshall, but that was really a strange game with all the rain delays. both teams looked out of sorts coming into the game, then having it called and playing later again.
I also did see they were down 12-10 vs. Norfolk State at halftime. Think it ended 55-12 or so. I have no idea what to think of them either.

Figuring the number of jerseys and helmets with the going auction rate, Maryland could raise $100-150K auctioning off these uniforms. That would make a nice down payment that could help them lure one of those big fast defensive ends away from the SEC.

Oklahoma Sooners Will Reportedly File for Membership in the PAC-12 Share Monday, September 12, 2011 SoonerSports.com By Todd Kaufmann Senior Writer With Texas A&M’s departure to the Southeastern Conference looking more and more likely, the demise of the Big 12 Conference may not be far behind. Once the Aggies left, the general consensus was the Texas Longhorns would depart for conference independence or the Oklahoma Sooners would depart for either the SEC or the PAC-12. It seems, according to reports, the dominos are beginning to fall. According to Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, the Oklahoma Sooners will apparently file for membership in the PAC-12 Conference before the end of September. Contrary to PAC-12 commissioner Larry Scott saying they were not interested in any further expansion, there’s no question adding a school like Oklahoma does nothing but benefit the conference as far as their fight for an automatic BCS bid. Once Oklahoma puts their application in, the likes of Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and a few others might follow with applications of˜their own. So what does this mean for the PAC-12 who already has two divisions split between North and South divisions? If they accept the applications of Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, it could force the Texas Longhorns hand to make a move of their own. There has been talk for quite some time that the ‘Horns would love to go independent especially with their new television deal with ESPN. But, they are realizing that a lot of networks don’t want to pick up a network which will only feature the University of Texas, especially outside the state of Texas. So it could force Texas to head out west with the other three schools which will also keep the ‘Red River Rivalry’ between them and the Oklahoma Sooners in place. A game that will move from the grounds of the Texas State Fair in Dallas, Texas to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas in 2015. So with Texas A&M and now Oklahoma and possibly Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Texas on the move, it leaves the likes of Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor left to wonder what happens to them. The Big 12 is in certain turmoil and while Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State are all keeping Texas A&M from moving to the SEC, it won’t be long before they will have to admit defeat and the inevitable. The once strong Southwest turned Big 12 Conference is crumbling before our very eyes. It’s holding on by a thread that is slowly coming apart. web page

how does Chip Brown get the scoop on all of this ahead of everyone else? that guy has got some major connections. an important part from Chip's article that got left out in this Sooner one Quote:
If Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were accepted into the Pac-12, there would undoubtedly be a hope by Larry Scott that Texas would join the league. But Texas sources have indicated UT is determined to hang onto the Longhorn Network, which would not be permissible in the Pac-12 in its current form.
Texas sources continue to indicate to Orangebloods.com that if the Big 12 falls apart, the Longhorns would consider "all options."
