Yep ... that wacky whacko Harold Camping is back at the Armageddon Game again ...... http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2011/10/harold-camping-predicts-end-of-the-world-again/Oct 11, 2011 1:33pm Harold Camping Predicts End of the World, Again Harold Camping, the Christian broadcaster who predicted the end of the world would come last May, says the true end is now near. He was off by five months, he says; the real day is Oct. 21. “What really happened this past May 21st? What really happened is that God accomplished exactly what He wanted to happen,” says a post on Camping’s website, FamilyRadio.com. “That was to warn the whole world that on May 21 God’s salvation program would be finished on that day. For the next five months, except for the elect (the true believers), the whole world is under God’s final judgment. To accomplish this goal God withheld from the true believers the way in which two phrases were to be understood. Had He not done so, the world would never have been shaken in fear as it was.” Camping drew national attention in May with his prediction, and was said to be “a little bewildered” when it didn’t go as he’d said. Now 90, he suffered a stroke in June and has been recovering at home in Oakland, Calif. The Family Radio website has the full text of his latest prediction. “Thus we can be sure that the whole world, with the exception of those who are presently saved (the elect), are under the judgment of God, and will be annihilated together with the whole physical world on October 21, 2011, on the last day of the present five months period,” it says. “On that day the true believers (the elect) will be raptured. We must remember that only God knows who His elect are that He saved prior to May 21.”
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Not sure what's worse, that this guy actually believes this or that ABC finds it worthy of reporting.

LOL For whatever it's worth, I think that almost all of the news organizations have blurbed this.

He'll probably wait till the end of the month, at the very least.
Gotta get that "special communication" explaining why it didn't happen this time too.

I'm asking those of faith - why does this guy seem crazy or laughable to you?
What I mean by that ... all religion is pretty much crazy. I'm not saying that to be inflammatory or to take digs - it is, at its core, more than absurd and illogical to believe that a man walked on water or turned water into wine or that someone is going to be faced with 72 virgins in Heaven ... it's pretty senseless in terms of the reality of our world.
Now - again, I stress - I say that not to deride. Hell, maybe Jesus is the son of God and he rose from the dead. Maybe that's 100% true. But even if it is, that belief is still illogical and lacking in reason. It is, essentially, kind of crazy.
So I find it a bit odd that there's so much derision for this guy. Back when this first happened, I remember my aunt laughing at this guy, and I said 'Wait, you do think there's going to be Armageddon, right? Eventually, Jesus is going to return to earth from Heaven for Judgment Day, right?" And she says 'Well, yeah, of course."
So I guess my question would be, for those Christians who laugh at this guy - why is what he says crazy? Is it any more or less crazy than believing the events of the Bible occurred? Is it any more sane and rational to believe that, say, a man put two of every animal on an ark he built, as opposed to Armageddon taking place in October?

Mainly because the Bible says that no man will know the time of Christ's return. A supposed Christian teacher should know that.
Further ..... after the 5th or 6th time, it strains believability.

Because he's made this prediction many times and is never right, and always has excuses afterward.
And the bible says we do not know when it will happen, and we will not know.

NYTimes article from after the May 21st miss. LINKThis is interesting Quote:
“The world has been warned,” said Mr. Camping, who said this would be his last interview. He added that his company — which had bought billboard space nationwide to promote the May 21 date — would not promote his new prediction, Oct. 21............
But Mr. Camping said his company — which is a nonprofit — would also not return donations given by his followers in advance of the May 21 prediction. “We’re not at the end,” he said, “Why would we return it?”
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I suppose it's open to interpretation ...
If you told people 1000 years ago that man would fly to the moon (or in orbit) then I'm sure they would be upset as well. Or that the Earth wasn't the center of the universe ... or even up until a few weeks ago that you could go faster than the speed of light (which is still being debated/proven).
It's all about interpretation.
This guy is claiming that he is a specific prophet and that he knows when the world will end ... not exactly the same thing ...especially when he already has been wrong once.

I don't think it's inflammatory to point out that a literal belief in the popular religions of the world is illogical and lacks reason.
It is illogical. It does lack reason.

I agree.
Like, I said, maybe Jesus is the son of God. Maybe that's true. It still doesn't make a literal belief in the New Testament any more logical or rational.
But beyond that ... and I almost want to say forget this guy, because he's too easy of a target ... why are Christians so quick to dismiss someone as a heretic when the namesake of their religion was treated like a heretic, and would still be if he came back to earth today?
And he would, wouldn't he? If Jesus Christ in the flesh came down and said 'Hey, guys, I'm here. Let's end war, feed the poor, heal the sick, render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, turn the other cheek. Ready?' He'd be laughed out of the room as a heretic, a socialist, a weirdo, a hippie, a loser, etc., etc.
Anyone who claimed to be a holy person of any sort is automatically discredited, right?

I have often wondered how Christ would be treated if He came back today.
Further, I wonder how He would be treated if He came back as a Black or Middle Eastern man.
I would hope that I would be open to a message of hope and love, much like many people were open to the message of Martin Luther King. It wasn't an easy message for many people to accept at that time ... throwing off lifetimes after lifetimes of prejudice and hatred for no other reason than the color of a man's skin .... yet somehow he managed to communicate his message, and managed to do so not only to people of his own race and/or skin color but to those of us not of his race and/or skin color. King's message managed to change the world, and lives on today, and is accepted and revered by people of all races and colors.
I would expect that Jesus would be , at least, as powerful, influential, and persuasive as MLK was. Even in today's jaded world, I would bet that Jesus would manage to get His message heard.

I suppose you're right but I don't know. I'm not disagreeing with you but I'm not agreeing with you either. What I mean is that ... well what you say makes sense. From a logical point of view you are correct and I side with that and agree with that. BUT ... even in the bible it says to beware of false prophets. Beware of those who motivate through fear. And yes Jesus was treated like a heretic, but I suppose that this guy is different. And as far as I know ... (though I could obviously be wrong) if a message was SO important that God wanted everyone to know it ... why would he pull a little boy who cried wolf? Then again .. I also know enough about this (supernatural and things above my - humanity's - intelligence) just enough to know that I DON'T know all about it.

That was kind of what I was getting at. He would be dark skinned to very dark skinned coming from that particular part of the world.

The New Testament seems to disagree.
Just about any translation you find has Christ returning triumphantly, raising the dead, judging the living, and then taking those who belong up to Heaven.
# The coming of Christ will be instantaneous and worldwide.[5] "For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." —Matthew 24:27
# The coming of Christ will be visible to all.[6] "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." —Matthew 24:30
# The coming of Christ will be audible.[7] "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." —Matthew 24:31
That sounds exactly like coming down and rallying the troops.

You made it sound like Jesus would come down, try to rally the troops, end wars, etc etc etc, like it would take days, weeks...whatever.
When the time comes - it's here and now. People will see what is happening, but it will be too late. I don't want to say instantaneous - but close to it.
edit to say : It's not like Jesus will come down and preach one last time, trying to rally the troops.
Make sense? Your first quoted scripture should be re-read.

Phil, if you believe in the Bible then you have to put a few things together... 1. Nobody knows when Jesus will come again. 2. When He DOES come again, it will be the end. 3. He is coming from heaven in all of His glory. 4. Before that happens there will be many false prophets. So If a man walks out of the subway in a hoodie and claims to be Jesus, as a believer, I can't believe him. If somebody claims to be here to end war and hunger, that means it's not the end, so I can't believe him. If somebody claims to know when Jesus is coming, then for me to believe that, I would have to accept that God was a liar when He said nobody would know, so I can't believe it. Now if the heavens open up and angels begin to sing and a man descends to earth... then I'll believe it.

So to answer YTowns question ... Refer to his first sig.
He was killed because of prejudice (fear).
