If, as many have said, you need 2 superstars to contend for, and win an NBA championship, then that is what the Clippers now have. They gave up a lot, but they got that 2nd superstar.

Also true.
I don't know what kind of financial shape they are in, but I do know that Mo Williams is up after this year. As much as we bag on Mo, I bet you could probably deal him as some teams would value his shooting and poor post-season play.

the Clips gave up a ton depending on that Minny pick. but, PGs are >> SGs and Paul is a proven top10 player.
not to mention they just went from a youthful team to a team with a ton of playoff experience (Paul, Butler, Billups...even Mo). And, keeping Bledsoe to learn from Paul was a smart move (he should thrive in the energy off the bench role).
i don't think they are a top4 team in the West yet, but they should definitely be a playoff team and a ton of fun to watch.

I guess it kinda sucks to not have Baron Davis anymore. It was the right thing to do though. He needs to be playing for the Knicks.
Even though he probably couldn't stand being in Cleveland, he always said the opposite and appeared to embrace the fans. It seemed very genuine, but what do I know.
I was a big fan when he was in Golden State and respected him more for his time in Cleveland.....I wish him well.
As for the CP3 trade, is it guaranteed that Paul can't opt out to be a free agent at the end of the year? I don't know why I would accept that if I were him. I would rather pkay the year out in New Orleans and then sign a big deal than play for the Clippers for two years (even if Blake Griffin is there).

I haven't heard anything about an extension, but wow, you can't make that deal unless there is somehow an agreement that there's an extension, right? They'd be the laughingstock of the league if Paul bolts in the summer.
As far as Baron goes, I'm sure you're right that he didn't want to be in Cleveland, but I don't think it was anything against the city or the franchise. He realizes that he's late in his career, the organization just drafted a future centerpiece that plays the same position as him.. Just wasn't in his best interests to be on this team, but at least he or his agent didn't go public with it like some of these other guys have.
Baron carried himself well last year, if he didn't want to be there, he sure did a nice acting job. He seemed like he had fun.

If he stays in NOrleans, he gets to pick where he plays in less than 12 months AND signs a huge guaranteed deal. If he blows his knee out next year, all that future money is gone. Dumb.

because Chris Paul realizes that his prime is likely to be very short due to his knee issues and he cannot waste time?
really, it's the only reason that makes sense because, as you mentioned, the financial risk doesn't match up (unless he is willing to sign an extension with the Clips this summer)

Yup, his health is a bit of a concern...so why delay the big contract signing? And an extension could be signed now with the Clips, why wait two years?
Doesn't make any sense.

a full extension with 'Bird Rights' (so higher salary) cannot be signed for 6 months after a trade. that was apart of the new CBA.
he likely will sign this extension in July if he wants to remain a Clipper long-term just like he would if he waited the year out with NO.
the weird thing is that this is the Clippers. if this was a team with a known good FO, then it wouldn't seem as strange (though LAC has actually had a good FO since they forced Elgin Baylor out)

There is talk that the Clippers may use the amnesty clause to waive Williams.
I think that we're going to see a lot of overpriced guys hit the waiver wire once teams figure out how the provision works.
Other people have mentioned Baron Davis and I have to say that I have nothing but respect for him. He came in here and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He never sulked. He busted his ass while he was here, and I hope that he winds up in a good place.

tough for Baron with his bulging disc. He likely doesn't wind up with a team until the allstar break when he's healthy (if he can be healthy by then, back injuries are tricky - funny that i'm responding to Ytown and saying that as if he doesn't know  ) i don't understand teams that are wasting the amnesty on Charlie Bell and even Mo Williams are thinking. these are expiring deals. saving a small portion of money makes no sense unless you have a grand-slam FA that you need to make cap room. the amnesty can be utilized in any offseason for the next several years, so wait until you are sure that it will help your team.

It's a one time thing right? Cavs will not be able to do it again? (Not that they will really need to, I believe Antawn is expiring next year, and I honestly believe he has a bit of value left, and less games this year is a definite plus for him and the cavs)

Antawn is in the last year of his contract, yes.
And it is a 1-time thing for each team, but they do not have to use it now. They can save it for later (there are extra provisions about which contracts you are allowed to use it on though - I think no players acquired in trades after the CBA was ratified, etc)

Actually I did mean after next season, but I was wrong on that, I believe Baron is the contract that is up next year. I mixed up my aging overpriced veteran contracts.

easy enough to do in the NBA. but, they are close to being extinct on the Cavs now (until we have to hit the cap floor next year and are stuck overpaying some mid-level vet)

wanted to remind everyone that if you don't want to pony up the $200 for the NBA TV package, you can watch any 5 teams online all season for $109. https://account.nba.com/leaguepass/broadband/it's what I do to watch the Cavs. and it's going to be another tough choice on my top5 (they have an All-NBA package but it's priced the same as the TV one). so, my top5 NBA teams to get to watch the season are: 1. Cavs 2. Thunder 3. Clippers - would have been w/o Paul too 4. Nuggets 5. Pacers - my surprise team pick in the East. haven't locked it in yet. also considering Warriors and Grizzlies (I get plenty of the Mavs, Spurs and Rockets on local TV here)

of course, they could become the best team in the East with 1 simple trade that is better than anything I have seen offered to Orlando for Dwight. which will never happen because there is no way that Dwight is agreeing to sign an extension in Indiana:
Hibbert / Hansbrough / Paul George / 2 1st rounders
for
Dwight / Turkoglu
The trade works because of the new 150% matching salaries rule for trades in the new CBA (even if it didn't, Indiana could just waive AJ Price to make the room on their cap number by itself).
Orlando saves $22mil on this year's salaries, which actually is closer to $30mil with luxury taxes (or more depending on what moves they do before the season). Not to mention they get out from under Turk's 3 remaining years. Add to it that they get a promising young SF to take Turk's place, a young center alot of people have really high hopes for (10x better than Brook Lopez at least), and a hustle PF who is basically the exact opposite of Glen Davis. the picks are mostly fodder as they'll be mid-to-late 20s if Dwight signed on long-term there but still have some value for building depth.
and this would be the Pacers lineup:
PG: George Hill / Collison
SG: B.Rush / Dah. Jones
SF: Granger / Turk / Posey
PF: West / ??
C: Dwight / Foster
I'd then try to flip Posey's expiring for a better backup SG or PF. But, dang that is a nice starting 5 who all complement each other's skillsets.

Yeah, they do have the local team blackout restriction. 
That's why I dropped the MLB package last year. If I can't watch the Indians live, why shell out the cash? I don't want to watch out of market teams.Same thing for the Cavaliers in the NBA. If I am going to spend my hard earned dollars, I want to see my teams.

completely understandable. and for those that live in the local area at least 3/4 of the games should be on TV anyway, so why spend an extra $109 just to see them on your computer.
it's mostly for us out-of-towners whose only way of watching the Cavs is through something like this

They're only on TV if you have cable.
If I had cable, I wouldn't bother with a league pass. Of course, I like my hometown teams. I'm not one for liking one team in this city, one in that state, and another over in another state.
I guess the furthest my allegiances travel is Columbus. (Buckeyes, of course, to go with the Cavaliers, Browns, Indians and YSU Penguins)

I don't buy the NBA League pass because I live in Soutern California. Between the Clippers and Lakers I see a lot games on local TV and then you have the nationally broadcasted games.

pretty much, the NBA does a good job of making sure a fan in any city in America can see the best matchups. If the Heat are playing the Thunder, chances are it's going to be on a Thursday on TNT or a Sunday afternoon on ABC.
But for us Cavs fans, who won't have one single game on national tv this year, it's an absolute must.
The only chance I have of seeing the Cavs where I'm sitting, is when they play the Bulls, or if the fans vote a Cavs game as the game of the week on NBATV.

you're kidding right? he's had like 3 turnovers already, passes high, no follow through on his shots,getting swatted inside, you can tell he only played 11 games last year...i'm not saying he's going to bust, but he looks pretty raw right now. I think when scott gets done with irving, he'll be a top 10 pg in the league..just saying right now you can tell its been a short TC and he hasn't played much. I loved the irving pick, hated the tristan pick, i think he won't be anything JJ wasn't, we need to use that TE on someone inside

I'll be pissed if we use the TE on ANYBODY who is over about 23 years old....and teams just aren't going to trade you those guys. So, let it expire.
The WORST thing we could do is use the TE on somebody to try to "help now". Why? So we can go from a 15 win team to a 25 win team? All that does is hurt our future drafts and ability to compete in the long term.
No. Win 15 games and get more top 3 picks while stock-piling YOUNG talent that we can develop together and hopefully be competitive again in 3-5 years. Especially when this upcoming draft is going to be the best in a long time. We could start collecting some serious talent with a couple more top draft picks.
There is absolutely no point in being average to "good" and competing for an 8 seed every year. Either be a top 4-5 team with legitimate championship hopes, or suck and rebuild. We certainly aren't the prior, so we better be the latter.
Oh, and Kyrie is going to be fine. I don't care if he sucks for this entire season...we aren't competing anyway. But, 3 years down the line, I fully expect Irving to be a better PG than Knight (if he's honestly not already).

Totally agree. I would love to see them get a project big man. Someone who might be 2 years away from being a really good rotation big.
