If this counts as a rumor, delete. It's being reported as about to happen. Quote:
Oakland and Cincinnati are on the verge of completing one of the NFL's biggest trade-deadline deals in decades, with the Raiders acquiring holdout quarterback Carson Palmer from the Bengals in exchange for a two first-round picks, according to sources familiar with the deal.
The first first-round pick is in 2012 and the other is a conditional first-round pick in 2013.
It's a bold move for each team.
Cincinnati is empowering a team it could be competing against for a playoff spot or even in the postseason. The Raiders are turning over another high pick for a quarterback that has been holding out and has struggled in recent seasons when some around the league questioned his arm strength. But ultimately, both sides believed it a gamble worth taking.
The deal became feasible when the Raiders lost starting quarterback Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone and the Bengals watched rookie quarterback Andy Dalton lead Cincinnati to a 4-2 record.
Oakland and Cincinnati spent much of Monday discussing the deal to the point early Monday night when a select few people realized it could happen. People involved in the deal's discussions thought it could happen, but they also recognized how delicate the talks were.
Palmer has been working out in Southern California with former Jets quarterback Ken O'Brien. Palmer also has a strong relationship with Raiders head coach Hue Jackson, with the two men having worked together in Cincinnati from 2004-2006, when Jackson was the Bengals' receivers coach.
Now Palmer will became another former Bengal to make his way west to the Raiders. And Oakland needs him. With Campbell out, the Raiders turned to Kyle Boller to replace him and also had Terrelle Pryor on the bench.
The trade became possible for the Bengals because Dalton has been impressive throughout training camp and the season's first six games.
Palmer was willing to restructure his contract, which would pay him $6.9 million for the balance of this season, sources said. In Dec. 2005, he signed an extension with the Bengals through 2014 that was valued at $118.75 million that had remained in tact when he informed the Bengals in January that he wanted a trade or would retire. He has never spoken publicly about his status and his agent, David Dunn, has only confirmed the original report that Palmer had met with Bengals owner Mike Brown to inform him of his feelings. It has been reported recently that Palmer himself had been speaking to Brown to persuade him to make a trade.
Palmer's wife, Shaelynn, is a former swimmer he met at USC and was raised in the San Jose area.
Until now, the biggest recent trade-deadline deals involved receivers. One came in 2008, when the Detroit Lions sent wide receiver Roy Williams and a seventh-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exhanged for first-, third- and sixth-round picks in 2009. The same week, Williams agreed to a five-year, $45 million extension that included more than $20 million guaranteed. Williams wound up being released before training camp began last summer.
In 2009, the Browns traded wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the Jets. But rarely have trade deadline deals involved quarterbacks, especially ones in a situation like Palmer's.
Link
No way I'd consider giving a 1st round pick let alone two first round picks for Palmer. Oakland got hosed in this deal.

Wow, good trade for Cinci. I mean, REALLY good trade for Cinci. Two potential first rounders for a guy that wasn't even going to play for them?
Maybe it wasn't Al Davis who was pulling the strings on these goofy trades???

THIS is a way overpriced deal. The Raiderrss are tough, especially when you let them get up on you. But this seems more like a step back to the days when they were the Elephant's Graveyard for NFL careers. Props to Palmer's agent; apparently Kitna wasn't available. Or George Blanda . . . .

Been watching this unfold this morning. Hate when potentially good things happen for the Bengals, however, I'm sure they'll find a way to screw things up. They get the blind squirrel award for Dalton so far, but I'll go with their usual track record.
A change of scenery may be just what Palmer needs to reignite his career, we will see.

Its a first and a second, with the second possibly becoming a first if Palmer reaches certain goals. Have not seen yet what those are.

Even a 1st and a 2nd are ridiculous!
Gotta hand it to the Bengals. If Mike Brown has another couple drafts like this last one, they could be a pretty tough team.

That is an insane price for a QB who clearly appears to be on the decline. 5 years ago .... definitely a 1st and 2nd, and maybe even 2 1sts ....... today ...? That's just nuts. Wonder if the Raiders held a seance before making this deal? Of course ... they may feel that they are a contender right now, and they need a QB who can elevate the rest of the team. Palmer might still be that guy. He is excellent off play action, and the Raiders can run the hell out of the ball.

It's as is Al has never left
Honestly though, hopefully the conditions are that the Raiders make the playoffs 2 years in a row or something legitimate for the conditional pick to turn into a 1st... that would really suck if they based it on playing time

http://mike-freeman.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6264363/32802463NFL source: Palmer to Raiders done The Raiders have traded for quarterback Carson Palmer sending the Bengals a first round pick in 2012 and a conditional pick in 2013 that will also likely be a first rounder. The deal is done. Jay Glazer of Foxsports.com was the first to report the trade discussion between the two teams. One team official said the deal should be announced either today or tomorrow. This is a remarkable deal. Mike Brown, the stubborn owner of the Bengals, had refused to trade Palmer. He was mocked as a stubborn fool and old goat. Yet here is the old goat getting two first rounders for a washed up thrower. Simply incredible.

The Raiders might get another 2 years of good work out of Palmer..but lets face it he's not the same QB he was 5 years ago. 2 injuries and he's prone to the turn the ball over in crucial situations. The Bengals fleeced the Raiders. Andy Dalton is looking to be the real deal and extra high draft picks will only give him more talent around him....

Why? We are not that far removed from the Bengals now and we have 2 firsts this year and it looks like both of our firsts might be slightly higher than theirs.

the Raiders FO is ridiculous.
they apparently haven't watched Carson for the last 5 seasons. or followed trades of other QBs in the past years. they should have used the McNabb trade as the barometer (Philly to Wash).

This just makes me think of one thing and get Angry. USE THIS AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO. The Raiders lose Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone and they wait, what is it 46 hours to go get a suitable replacement, a quarterback who has some experience. The Browns lose about 3 quarterbacks in whatever year it was, 2006 and finish the last 4 games with Ken Dorsey and Bruce Gratkowski fighting to stay healthy. Carson Palmer is greater than Jake Delhomme, by age, by production , it is not alot but it is so, I looked it over last year. Jake Delhomme, was brought in to help the dismal situation of DA, and Quinn, and the Browns get rid of him because they have to see what they have in McCoy.... blah blah blah Hey Raiders! What will you take for Kyle Boller?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

They did three attempts with their board. First attempt spelled McCoy while the next two spelled Palmer.

The Raiders are 4-2 with a pretty decent team and they are in a relatively weak division... the Browns were 4-8, going nowhere and waiting for Brady Quinn to take the helm in 2008 (the year you are talking about).. are you saying we should have grotesquely overpaid for an aging QB with declining skills to try to somehow save our season by giving up a lot of our potential future?

They have more pieces in place than us IMO. Their defense is better, they have a potential #1 receiver that scares opposing defenses and possibly a really good QB. I won't feel as bad if Dalton isn't going to be franchise material (book still out on him), but he looks pretty darn good for a rookie. I just see a whole lot better things happening for them as much as I hate to admit it. We still need a lot more pieces than they do IMO, and with those additional first round picks it isn't looking good. Yes, I know we have the 2 firsts this year which is great and cause for some optimism; hopefully we use them wisely.
This is the most pessimistic I have been about the Browns. I'm numb to even getting upset anymore. I used to yell and scream at the TV, but I don't think I raised my voice once during the Raiders game except when we got the onside kick. I feel beaten and question why I spend the time and money I do on this team - I know I'll still do it, because as 'Peen said in a thread a while ago, "it's what I do". Year after year after year of this wears on you and then you see one of the clubs that is perennially mocked pull off a mega-trade at the deadline for a player that wasn't even suiting up it just makes me sink deeper.
As Jules said, there is always an excellent chance that Mike Brown will screw it up so there is at least hope there.

I agree, Columbus. Adding two additional 1st rounders to the Bengals is bad news for us. Here's to hoping Palmer doesn't report.

Crazy trade.
Totally....stupid Raiders....this time it wasn't the Pats raping them. Now these idiots have traded away their 1st to 4th rounder in 2012, pretty much losing an entire draft class for Palmer, rookie OT Barksdale (took him late 3rd and gave Pats 2012 2nd, lol...he's a backup G), Terrelle Pryor and part of Campbell...they also gave their 7th for part of Curry-trade...so they have their 5th and 6th left, lol
and now they've dipped into the 2013 draft too with probably a 1st and a mid rounder for Curry
These idiots will never learn

I'm stunned.
An in-his-prime Carson Palmer is worth two firsts. This version might not be worth one first, let alone two.
The Bengals look to be on the up for the first time in recent memory.....

I'm saying teams like the Ravens, who needed a rb and took less than 2 days to sign when they signed Willis Magahee,
and now the Raiders who needed a QB and took less than 2 days to sign C Palmer understand that they won't let their talent or experience level fall below a certain level.
The Browns won't let their talent or experience level rise above a certain level.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

What happened to it? It's called negotiation tactics. And it worked.
Brown is a very cheap, very poor owner, but he's shrewd, and he won this time. Was a great move by him.

i think that goes out the window when someone is willing to vastly overpay even what the Bengals might have thought to get for him.
heck, this proves out the 'we won't trade him rhetoric' if the Raiders thought they had to overpay to get the Bengals to listen.

This sucks. Bengals took AJ Green this year, who's already a stud, and possibly did what virtually never happens-- nab a franchise QB in round 2. The defense is young and loaded with talent and now they pick up 2 very significant draft picks for a player that was completely expendable to them.
