I just received word that I am going to a conference for work in of all places .... Las Vegas. And I leave on Halloween. It stinks that I won't get to take my kids trick or treating, but I guess that's how it goes.

Anyway, I've never been to Vegas and was wondering if there's anyone out there who can tell me what the best thing to do in Vegas on Halloween night would be. I'm open for suggestions.

I'm staying at The Lexor if that's any help.

I've been to Vegas about 6 times. As recently as last week and once over Halloween weekend long ago. Vegas is crazy enough on every non-Halloween weekend so let's get that right out of the way. I was actually surprised at how many people weren't dressed up. Of course, it's an older crowd that's there to party and gamble.....and nothing says "I'm a high roller" like wearing zombie makeup at the blackjack tables.

I'm sure there's some wild parties if you're looking for a costume party......but otherwise, it's going to be a normal Vegas weekend (nuts).

I'd tell ya one thing, check out City Center while you're there. Amazing!

I can't speak for Vegas on Halloween, but if you're there on a Sunday I'd park myself at the sportsbook for several hours if I were you.

I'd go to the Mandalay Bay Sports Book. It's the size of a blimp hanger

Last time I was there Pete Rose was laying down a wad of dough on the ponies.

Quite a place.......

I've gone to Vegas for Halloween weekend 3 of the last 4 years. As crazy as Vegas can be normally - it is crazier then. As scantily clad as people are in Vegas normally - they are even more so on Halloween weekend. As crowded as clubs are on a normal weekend they're worse on Halloween weekend.

That being said, if you are flying out on the 31st, it is a Monday and it won't be different than any other normal Monday in Vegas, the parties/craziness will be Friday/Saturday night.

My buddy was just at Mandalay Bay two weeks ago and said Pete Rose was up there... Mandalay must be his spot. And you are right, they have a great book. I watched us beat the Rats on opening day back in 04 at the Mandalay Bay sportsbook, so I will always have great memories of that place.

I will be in Vegas the 1st-4th of November. Staying at the Aria in City Center. Can't wait.

Aria is very nice, indeed.

But it is still second to Bellagio. I've stayed at both and you can't go wrong at either one but the Bellagio is still the crown jewel. It's Sportsbook is better than Aria's, too, IMO.

Fargo is staying at the Luxor and their Sportsbook is, shall we say, cozy. That's one reason I'd walk over to Mandalay if I were him. Maybe Pete can give him some betting tips.....

That's cool. Thanks for all the tips everyone. My conference is actually at Mandalay Bay, but my reservation was so late, I couldn't get a room from the block of rooms registered. That's why I'm staying at the Luxor.

Growing up, Pete Rose was one of my heroes. That would be cool to get his autograph.

Thanks everyone. Anyone else can sure chime in too!

I just went to Vegas over New Years, and I found the best party in Vegas, is right on the strip. Forget about trying to find places to go and party ... Grab a case of beer or a bottle of whatever you drink, and walk the strip.

if the conference is at Mandalay Bay - hit that dinner buffet. if it's still the same (been 3 or so years), it was the best buffet I have ever been to. pricey (~$25-30), but so friggin' good.

Thanks No logo. Employer is picking up the tab so $25-$30 won't be so bad.

Is there anything else I should absolutely, positively see? Like the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop from Pawn Stars?

Don't even bother going there.

It's just a pawn shop. I went in expecting it to be filled with all kinds of cool stuff. You see all the cool stuff on TV, that's in one little corner of the shop. The rest of the shop is just a regular pawn shop. Waste of the $20 cab ride.

if you have never been, then you should definitely try to hit it (I would stick to the strip on Halloween night, that'll be enough). but, don't bother going to Fremont unless it is dark out (for the overhead light show)

most of the other can't miss stuff is long gone now (sahara was the last)

vegas has so much stuff though, that the 'can't miss' stuff will be different for everybody. i would suggest going to one of the vegas vacation sites, then come back here and list the ones you find interesting (to see if there are any opinions on those).

for me, you've already got the best buffet and sports book listed, and the old timey stuff is closed, so I don't have much else to offer.

I love Vegas but I have never been there during Halloween.

However, there are 2 things that are always going to happen during Halloween.

1. People are going to party

2. Girls are going to dress like skanks

Multiply that by a million and that's what Vegas will be like.

I'm just sayin.
