Could we do a top 25 playoff? I think that'd be much more interesting. You'd have to finagle the numbers a bit to make the ladder work but I'd rather have a tournament system.

Way too many.

Top 4 in a plus 1 is all it will take.

I just don't get it. How many leagues don't have a playoff besides college football?

Would the plus 1 cover any breakout schools from MWC, Sun Belt, Independents, MAC, or the WAC? If so, could it be plus two instead of plus one?

Too many teams. Not enough time.

I'm all for a 4 team playoff. I think that's perfect. I have to lolz at all these people that think they're going to see some 16 game playoff in the future.

I understand it would be nice, but once one comes to the realization football has a bowl system that isn't going to just vanish, then it is easier to "get".

Unlike other sports, football is a once per week proposition. You can't play 2-3 games in a weeks period as you can in other sports.

It would be great to include all schools so people like RocketOptimist would be happy Toledo had a shot, but the reality is not many outside of Toledo care about the Rockets.

So, start to "get" the Bowls are here for good, then you will see a plus one gets the job done.

I don't know how the final ranking will fall....say LSU,Alabama,Ok St, Stanford....or whatever....match LSU and Ok St, Ala. v Stanford.

Then the plus one, pitting the winners.

Simple and it takes away some of the fog....does it really matter a team ranked 10th doesn't have a shot at the title??

That doesn't bother me at all.

I still think 8 teams is what makes the most sense.

16 is WAYYYYY too many, because in any given year, there's just not a #15 or 16 team that can realistically compete for a national title in a playoff scenario.

Maybe start at 4 and then phase to 8 down the road.

With 8 teams you only play 3 additional games.

- Round 1 is a home game for the top 4 teams, as a reward for the regular season standings.
- Round 2 has the 4 remaining teams slotted in 2 of the 5 "BCS" bowl games.
- Round 3 aka the NC game is the "+1" as the last game of the season.

The reasons 8 teams is necessary IMO:

- Given conference championship games / division formats, some teams don't play each other so there are a lot of scenarios where a conference could (and should) get 3 teams in. Having 8 allows just that, having 4 it is incredibly unlikely. This especially becomes important if conferences go to 14 or 16 teams.

- It allows a mid major to prove it on the field. Teams like Houston and Boise will likely NEVER get a shot in a 4 team system. Case in point, Houston being one of two undefeated teams and not even sniffing the top 4 spots.

- It leaves some margin for error and SHOULD encourage more teams to play more interesting out of conference slates. Will they? Well, not everyone will but I'm sure many schools would be open to avoiding MTSU in favor of a more traditional opponent.

8 would be cool if you could give each conference winner a spot in the playoffs, and 2 wild card teams which could apply to anyone. You'll still have arguments like you do now about who gets those last two spots, and honestly it would probably be even worse, but it gives us a playoff, and still makes the season important.

I think maybe they could consider scaling down your non conference schedule to 2-3 games and maybe have one game chosen by some higher power.

Sure it makes sense. A lot of ways make sense.

The reality is 1 is all we will get so we might as well embrace that. At least it adds some clarity.

As for mid majors getting a shot....bunk on them.

Thought of doing it that way but decided in favor of better match-ups.

I've come to the point that I'm completely ok with an LSU/Alabama rematch...IF... LSU loses to Georgia...

I think that would be hilarious.

Anyones thought on LSU getting a peice of the NC Title (if they win the SEC) weather they win or lose the NC game?

Especially if they play Alabama.

If they lose to Alabam... the two teams will be split...

But that's only if "every game matters"

What I think would be hilarious is if Georgia beats LSU and the national championship game is LSU/Alabama. 2 SEC teams playing for the national championship but neither was good enough to win the conference.

As for your other question, LSU beat Alabama at 'bama. I would support a shared title if 'bama wins in a close game but not a blowout. The BCS will never let that happen. Remember THEY were created to "end" the national championship controversy and THEY are the ones who wold have to make it a shared title.

Doesn't the AP name it's own NC? They did it with USC the one year...

Side Note: I'm pretty sure Gus Johnson could make announcing the drying of paint exciting... Dude's just got it... Sucks he's only a Pac-12 guy now...

#6 Houston down 7 to #24 Southern Miss. in the 2nd quarter (7:48).

Interesting note about this game, if Houston wins they'll get a BCS bowl*...AND a $17 million payout for the conference. So, it would benefit Southern Miss. if they laid down a bit. Sure, the players get none of that money but the school would add that to the facilities, coaching payroll and recruiting budget.

*Right? They'll get a automatic BCS bid.

Would they get in or would Boise State get the non-AQ spot since they're ranked higher?

You guys are hanging so far....I am proud Turk.....I am a eastern guy.

I am probably rooting for
LSU a bit simply because it helps the SEC, but you guys are too.

All the talk was about the west, but here we go.....great SEC football.

If there is a special teams touchdown, then it's a result of .. SEC SPEED!

If there is an offensive touchdown, then it's a result of .. SEC TALENT!

If there is bad offense, then it's a result of .. SEC DEFENSE!

If there is luck involved, then it's a result of .. LES MILES!

Did I do it right?

Also - what did y'all think of that TD by LSU in the first half?? Looked like he tossed the ball to the official before he actually got in.

Seriously I'd just take the 15 yard penalty and blast mathieu every time he's back returning punts before the ball gets to him.

Maybe so, but it didn't really matter. He made the play.

Dang, Mathieu is a playmaker! Where does he project in the draft as a CB and PR/KR? Seems like a guy we could use.

As I saw the TD in the first half I said to myself it looked like a Desean situation on the goalline. But hd made the play and he was flipping it to the official.

Speaking of Desean, he'll be an URFA too. I'd want him. The contract pouting would be gone once he has a deal. Dude is awesome.

I want no part what-so-ever with Desean unless he learns how to mature and mature quickly... the guy's character was tested this year and he failed miserably...
