Link The Ravens and Bills agreed to a trade Thursday that will send running back Willis McGahee to Baltimore in exchange for the team's third and seventh-round picks in this year's draft, along with the Ravens' third-round pick in 2008, league sources tell ESPN.com's Michael Smith.

Is this the next back to run all over us for a record-breaking day? Actually, McGahee doesn't scare me.

Not sure what's left on McGahee's contract, but this is not a bad deal for the Ravens at all. Assuming he has 2-3 years left.

I heard on ESPN that the Bills were very upset at McGahee for a long time. He never knew the plays, didn't know his assingments, and didn't work out with the team. They had the players explaining the plays in the huddle even. That's why his playing time dropped. Oh well....good for the Ravens (and maybe good for us).

I heard that also, good point.
I'm drawing a blank, who is Buffalo's #1 back right now?
That Raven's 3rd rounder for Reuben???

pretty good trade for the Bills...they get rid of an annoyingly overrated player, and get some good picks for him. Ravens may have got younger at RB...but they are garbage at other vital positions.
you had a good run Hank.

Maybe Buffalo would like to trade the farm for a shot at AP? Phil give them a call.

Actually I am not too impressed with McGahee so far....He is an above average back when healthy but he is NOT the Jamal Lewis of 2003...(Boy that was bad year)

Technically that would be Shaud Williams.

I say we contact Tampa Bay and pick up Will Allen. I think that should take care of McGahee.

They are gonna have to re-sign him.....that sucks
you don't give up two 3rd and a 7th with cash, to get a back for one year. I hope he holds out.

Thomas is a FA and he will probably re-sign with Buffalo. As of right now, the #1 RB on the Bills' roster is Shaud Williams.

Without a quality OL, McGahee won't be super-effective for the Rats. Their OL isn't horrible, but it ain't what it used to be. We'll teach him a thing or three twice a year.

The Bills Oline was even worse then Ravens and yet McGahee put up some decent numbers.

We can only hope that Ogden's age and Mulitalo's absence will take its toll on the Ratbirds this year.

MAN that's a high price to pay for a guy who's averaged 3.8 yards per carry in each of the last 2 seasons, and who is now being known for not even taking the time to study his own playbook.
Bad move by the Rats. Instead of trying to change RB's, they SHOULD be trying to get better linemen.
The reality of their situation isn't that the backs have been bad, but rather the line has gone south. Zeus is long gone, Bennie Anderson went to the Dolphins where he flopped and is now gone, Mulitelo was nearing the end and is now gone, Ogden isn't a pro-bowl left tackle anymore, Keydrick Vincent was said to have had a not-so-great year after coming over from the Steelers, and Pashos has moved on.
So they send 2 first-day selections off for a RB with very questionable character.
Bad move.

It was a 3rd and a 7th, wasn't it? Late day one and last rounder.

You got it, Hack POSTED 2:14 p.m. EST, March 8, 2007 McGAHEE TRADE HINGES ON NEW DEAL We were caught up in some day-job stuff earlier today, and we're catching up on the flow of the NFL info. Here's what we know about the McGahee deal, plenty of which is already reported elsewhere. The Ravens sent a third-round pick and a seventh-round pick in 2007 and a third round pick in 2008. The deal hinges on the Ravens working out a long-term extension with McGahee, and the deadline is March 13. Stay tuned. web page

This paints a little different picture:
Quote:
The deal was completed Thursday according to Ravensider.com’s Aaron Wilson. The teams swapped third round and seventh round picks in this year's draft and Baltimore's third-round pick next year for McGahee.
While that was very poorly worded, if they simply traded draft positions and gave up a 3rd next year, it's not a bad deal.
Having said that, he's not a guy I'd even want to sign as a free agent.

You know Toad,, you paint an ugly picture of what's left of the Ravens,, Now add in that thier Defensive leader is another year older and probably losing a another step and they lost Thomas,,, what it looks like is a fire sale in an effort make room to do a major overhaul.....
I get the feeling that they are gonna be bad for a couple of years as part of a master plan..
I like Ozzie,, I think he's a smart executive and I can't believe he would do all of these, seemingly insane moves without a master plan in place.. Either that or could it be that the real brains of the Ravens player selection and moves now resides in Cleveland? Hmmm Interesting!

What I painted was an ugly picture, mostly for their O-line, hehe. That line didn't do much for McNair last year, and hasn't done much for the running game for the last few.
Here's their master plan:
They are selling tomorrow in order to push towards a super bowl today. They thought they could get Lewis back with a $2 million dollar offer, then when he signed with us, they had no choice but to land a big-name back to push towards the Super Bowl. As a result of the predicament they placed themselves in, they had to badly overpay to land McGahee. Other teams were in the bidding for the overhyped former Hurricane, so they had to pull the trigger and not think twice about it.
Consider this: For another measely $1 million bucks (chump change in todays salary cap world) they could have guaranteed themselves Lewis and not had to make this move.
Ozzie deserves the credit for getting his team to the Super Bowl in the past as well as the good picks, but the luster and shine that was on him has long worn off. They are now in gamble-mode, and IMHO if they don't really work to fix that line, they will continue to be known as a great defensive team, but an offensive team that's only going to win if McNair wins it for them. We all know that McNair is no longer a guy that's going to take all 16 starts. They are doing the right thing with this strategy, but they've put themselves in this position.

POSTED 3:13 p.m. EST, March 8, 2007
McGAHEE DEAL: SEVEN YEARS, $40.12 MILLION
We're told that the Ravens and running back Willis McGahee are very close to agreeing on a seven-year deal worth $40.12 million.
As we previously explained, McGahee will receive $7.5 million to sign, an initial option bonus of $6 million, and a second option bonus of $1.5 million. The salaries are $595,000 in 2007, $605,000 in 2008, $620,000 in 2009, $3.6 million in 2010, $6.0 million in 2011, $6.5 million in 2012, and $7.2 million in 2013.
Since McGahee was due to earn $2.155 million in 2007, the deal is essentially a six-year extension worth $37.965 million.
If the Ravens cut McGahee before the back-end salaries kick in, he will earn a total of $20.42 million over four years.
