To all of the people raising hell over this move, I'll ask a 3rd time. Just what should have been done? He himself admitted the slump. Should we have taken up a roster spot by benching him?

Nope. He earned and deserved the right to work through his issues at LEAST through the end of this season. He was having a bad year it's true. The first time EVER in his career though.

I don't care if he snapped the ball over Maynard's head every snap the rest of the year. You don't cut the man. If he's "perfect" we'll win....4 games. If he sails every snap over Maynard's head we'll win....4 games.

Cutting him in the middle of the season like this, after all his years of being literally the best in the world is a slap in the face. It's saying 7 years of excellence means nothing if we can pin our current struggles on you. Of course, guys with 0 years of excellence struggle and are more detrimental to our team every stinking Sunday and yet keep their jobs.

Sometimes forcing someone who's in a slump to keep going through the repetitions is the worst thing you can do.

Unfortunately, I think you are correct.

Fact is, he did play a part in our struggles, and he sure wasn't the best in the world this year. He could get a punter or holder injured with those snaps. It's up to the FO to determine who's worth keeping and whose time is up. He was paid to do a job and was rewarded for his exceptional efforts. He was a long snapper who could not long snap anymore.

Guess what, if he does his freaking job correctly, we are 6-5 right now and fighting for the final wildcard spot. He earned the right to get cut and that is all that he earned.

Enough of this whining over a long snapper that sucked all year long.

You are absolutely out of your mind if you honestly believe we SHOULD be 6-5 if only for our long snapper. Fighting for the playoffs...LMFAO what a joke. We're lucky to be 4-7 IMO. Personally I think we "should" be 2-9 right now based on how "well" we've played. A last second win over a bad Miami team after we were dominated for 90% of that game? A 6-3 game against Seattle? That's not a win. It was barely football. Same with 14-10 against a terrible Jax team coming down to the final play of the game. The only game we lost that should be a W was the opener against Cincy.

If we are relying on last second field goals to avoid losing to the freaking St Louis Rams AT HOME and the Cincinnati Bengals...the long snapper is the least of your worries. The coaches and team never should have been so horrible as to put us in those last second situations.

That being said, there is no arguing those 2 plays hurt and he's struggled this year. The point is, he's earned the right to play through a few bad plays or even a few bad GAMES. His snaps didn't lose the Rams and Bengals games...they just didn't bail the team out after terrible games that shouldn't have been that close anyway.

Instead of fixing real, actual problems....we cut this man in the middle of the season. Thanks for nothing. I think he should have pulled a DA and given the front office a big middle finger on his way out personally.

As others have said, his job is to snap the ball. He wasn't doing that successfully. He was cut. In the long run in won't even matter if uor new guy does his job.

Graff....he was a long snapper who wasn't snapping all that well. Don't make it sound like he was a future hall of famer.

This was a message cut. The message to the players was do your job or you can go.

Ponti had enough time and elevation with the team that he was the perfect guy to cut.

How is a long snapper not being able to snap NOT a real problem?

If he was all that, wouldn't someone have grabbed him by now?

As was said, he's a long snapper. Long snappers who can't snap long get released. We do not hear about it on the other teams because this is not the kind of thing that makes big news.

He gave us good years, and I respect him for that. He lost it, and I feel bad for that. But he had to go.

That's fine as long as all the other players and ESPECIALLY the coach and FO are held to the same standards. How about we start with being able to win ONE out of every 3 AFCN games? Guess that means we better damn well beat Baltimore today...otherwise it might be time to "message cut" Shurmur and Co.

We all know that won't happen though.

It's not the same standards.

One was a 7th year special teams player...

The other is a rookie Head Coach...

I get it if you hate Shurmur or whatever, but lets be realistic...

Umm let's see here... o yeah we got rid of the long snapper.. cause we couldn't win games cause Phil couldn't kick FG's to win... like maybe 15 FG's since this team can't score more than a td.. if lucky a game...

So what was the result in this game ? Ahhh.. lost again....lol...

But hey wtf !!!! we still lead the league in dropped passes..

Come on man...who needs WR who can catch, QBs who can read defenses and make throws, coaches who can coach, LBs who can tackle or presidents who can assemble a team??

We've GOT to fire the long snapper instead. I mean I know he's a pro bowl player...but he's just been bad this year. We can't and won't stand for that. Our team is too proud and strives for excellence in all facets.....

I can't even type that with a straight face. Ridiculous.
