I liked what Savage said about McGahee, any team that trades for him would be married to him and Savage wasn't going to do that...

I don't think it is a very smart move at all...

As for you comment Steve..Offensive lineman improve QB and RB's play

I may be very wrong in my assessment, but I think of the Ravens sort of as the Raiders from four years ago.

Great talent...old as hell. They strike me as a team that could get a bye-round to the playoffs one year and totally drop off the next. RayRay, Samari, Pryce, Ogden, McNair...they're not getting any younger. Just remember, you're only one play away from Kyle Boller.

BTW, anyone else see them going OLine 1st and 2nd round this year since they're out of a third?

I don't think the Ravens got robbed at all. In fact, I think that is a pretty good deal for them.

McGahee wanted out of Buffalo and he forced their hand by being a malcontent.

Everyone is ripping on the Ravens and I understand why. But, I still think they will be a contender next year.

We'll see.

The Ravens can afford to throw away a couple of draft picks on a malcontent. If McGahee changes his attitude and hits the playbook he will be a great pickup. He has already proven he has the ability to run with the ball.

I really like this trade as far as the Bills are concerned. They really need help and two extra third rounders in the next two years will really help. I just wish we had someone we could get that kind of value out of.

Vers, I kinda see what your saying to a point, but still, that to me is a lot to give up for him when you look at the age of the "stars" on that Ravens team..

I just kinda get the feeling that they need to stock up on young talent,, But it's JMO and has been proven over and over again,, I ain't that smart

hefty price

Willis McGahee signed a new seven-year contract, the last two seasons of which are option years, that can be worth a total of $40.12 million.
The final two years are phony, so McGahee's deal is basically for five years and $26.42 million, with $15 million guaranteed. It just doesn't seem necessary to pay any running back that much, especially one with a career yards-per-carry average under four. McGahee will receive an initial signing bonus of $7.5 million and subsequent option bonuses of $6 million in 2008 season and $1.5 million in 2009. McGahee would have to be a true bust for the Ravens to consider bailing after a season.

I definitely agree daman....As old as they are getting, giving up picks for a decent to maybe above average running back is a little bit of a stretch. In my opinion the Ravens stars still are good players but the key to mainting a winning team in this league is to keep your team full youthfull talent. I see the Ravens being good for another 1 or 2 years and once their usuall suspects start getting slower and older your going to see their success decline rather quickly.

On the other hand though they are good enough right now to do a move like this because they don't have that many glaring needs in the present. Key word - right now.

At first glance this move looks good but as time goes by this might be a move that comes back to hurt them down the road. Let's hope so

We do seem to be the "Geriatric Bunch" but anything is better than silver and black, kind of reminds me of an old, oh no I said old "Ravens" keeps popping up...BOLLER, NOOOOOOOOOOOO.......

The Browns are going to have an interesting season as where I believe you guys have the supreme opportunity to shape up the rest of the AFC North, if not "take it"........

Exactly my point,,, they have a strong but aging group of foundation players,, and those are dropping like flies already.. They need to restock every year with young talent..

See, they aren't doing that and that's why I made the comment that maybe the brains behind the Raven Drafts now resides in Cleveland.. I think it's possible that Savage had a lot more to say than was originally believed,,

Without a quality OL, McGahee won't be super-effective for the Rats. Their OL isn't horrible, but it ain't what it used to be. We'll teach him a thing or three twice a year.

Interesting point, but, the Ravens O line just had one of the best seasons of any Ravens O line... and they're all returning.

Willis is an upgrade, + Mike Anderson is still under contract, and Mus Smith just resigned a 1 year deal.

With all due respect intended (does anything good EVER come after that statement?) that line has been on the downside for a year or two and they are gambling on some really unproven players to step it back up. Of course you just oversighted the fact that Edwin and Pashos left via free agency. If I had a dollar for everytime I've forgotten something like that.....

In an odd twist, I just read this today:

Quote:

Jamal Lewis likes Browns’ future

By MIKE McLAIN Tribune Chronicle

BEREA — Jamal Lewis obviously knows something that the general public doesn’t know about the Cleveland Browns.

In making his decision to sign a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Browns Wednesday, the former Baltimore Ravens running back banked on the belief that better times are around the corner for the struggling franchise. In particular, Lewis likes the fact that moves are being made to highlight the ground game.

‘‘The first question I asked was how is the offensive line?’’ Lewis said during a conference call Thursday from his home in Georgia. ‘‘They made a good addition (in guard Eric Steinbach), and they’re looking to make more moves. It looks like they’re committed to running the football.

‘‘That’s what I was looking for the last three or four years in Baltimore, but no moves were made there. That was one of my main concerns (about the Ravens). Talking to (general manager) Phil Savage and the offensive coaches, it looks like they’re making the moves to put things together.’’

web page

I don't take anything he's said or going to say about the Browns with any hint of honesty. No player in the history of the league has ever signed with a team then questioned them out of the box *L* However, I thinkk it's very fair to say that players offer legitimate complaints when leaving their former team. "The organization quit on me" "They didn't offer me enough money" "It was a business decision" "They wanted to go with a cheaper player" etc etc etc. In this case, Lewis reflects something I said either in this thread or another, which is that their line hasn't gotten better over the past few years, only worse.

So will McGahee do a great job? I think he'll be ok, but only as good as he was in Buffalo, and that wasn't spectacular. For the investment of a couple of first day picks and $20 million over several years, I'd want more. The line has kept Lewis from being what he was, though I don't feel he's got much left in the tank.

McGahee was on Sirius Radio's "Movin' The Chains" on Friday.

This must be one of the least educated, grammatically challenged and poorly spoken men who ever attended higher education that I have ever heard. It was painful and embarrassing for the hosts also as they attempted to send him easy to answer "Yes or No" answers. What a pity!

I do wish him well in his future football career and hope he saves his money wisely as there is no shot at a communications job when he is done.

good trade by the Ravens. He is a very good replacement for Jamal. He should really help out this offense and help it have a stronger running game

If McGahee was upset in Buffalo because of nothing to do off the field in that city, then he won't be much more happier in Baltimore

As for the Rats getting old, that is 100% true, Johnathon Ogden is going into his tenth year I think, Ray Lewis is starting to age, McNair's best years are way behind him, Mike Flynn is starting to age also, and letting go your great young OLB in Adalius Thomas just hurt them badly, Terrell Suggs will end up in jail.....

Indeed they are the Raiders of '01 and '02...

Ravens | McGahee still feels he is best in league
Sun, 11 Mar 2007 11:47:29 -0800

The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens RB Willis McGahee wouldn't back off his statement from a few years ago that he believes he's the best running back in the league. He did, however, acknowledge Friday, March 9, that he has something to prove after rushing for a career-low 990 yards and six touchdowns last season.

KFFL

Guess he's never heard of LaDamian Tomlinson... or Larry Johnson... or Frank Gore... Steven Jackson, Willie Parker, Rudi Johnson... etc, etc, etc...
