The Minnesota Vikings plan to release veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb later Thursday, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

He apparently asked for his release. It's pretty obvious he's trying to get to the Bears, he's from Chicago and Caleb Hanie isn't good.

Unfortunately for them, neither is Donovan McNabb at this stage in his career.

OK....but he stinks. Come on, he lost his starting job to Rex Grossman in Washington and then his starting job in Minnesota to a rookie. He'd done. Retire.

What makes all of this worse is that how many on here thought that because Heckert came from Philly, that one of the first moves he'd make was to bring McNabb here...LOL I"m so damn glad that didn't happen.. Whew, we really dodged a bullett with that

I know he was good for a 3-5 years span. Heck, "very good" might be a better way to describe his play under center.

I can try saying "he never had IT" or "he choked under pressure" but I think he could have won a Super Bowl or two with a better defense or a lucky ball bounce here or there.

He's not a HOFamer and he's far from a bust. He had a very good career and I'm sure he'll find a job in the media soon after he retires. Hopefully, that is sooner than later (IMO, the longer he hangs around, the more he hurts his "legacy" *).

*Though I don't blame him for playing to get paid. Heck, I'd hold a clipboard for $500,000/year even if I was once a great NFL QB with multiple rings.

Shoot, even with the last 2 years being fairly poor years, he has thrown for over 37,000 yards, and still has twice as many TD passes as INT. (234-117) He has also rushed for 3400 yards and 29 more TDs.

He'll get consideration, at least.

Sorry, you're right. I didn't mean to imply he's just above a scrub and has NO chance at even being talked about the HOF. He'll get lots of talk and might even get on the ballot...I just don't think he'll get in.

And truly, if someone said you'd get to be on the HOF ballot but wouldn't get in...that's still a great accomplishment compared to so many other guys that get drafted and flame out. There's no reason for Donovan to hang his head. Good career and great earnings. Be proud.

I think he still has some in the tank. I see Chicago in his future.

Now if only Jason Campbell could convince the Raiders to release him.

McNabb obviously wants to go to Chicago, which will make it funny when Dallas claims him (they are two spots in front of Chicago in waiver priority). If I were him I'd just call it a career if that happens.

The Dolphins released Sage Rosenfels so maybe he is an option for Chicago as well.

I'm pretty sure he's out for the rest of the regular season.. and is a FA after this year...

Just Clicking

I just heard on the radio that McNabb was indeed released by the Vikings.

This story is confirming it

He made it through waivers today so he's free to sign with any team.
