Well, if I'm going to compare two Running Backs, I'm not going to put a whole lot of emphasis on how many passes they caught, although it would be nice to have someone who can catch out of the backfield, like a Reggie Bush-type or LT. But Lewis is clearly not that back.

Anyway, the reason I think many people view McGahee as an upgraade over Lewis is because McGahee hasn't taken quite the beating Jamal has over the years and the Ravens are moving toward being a more pass-oriented team offensively. Lewis stated that's why the feeling was mutual with him leaving Baltimore. He wants to be involved with a strong run-oriented offense and the Browns promised him we'd be moving further in that direction. That is why he was sold on us. That and our supposed commitment to build this monster O-line in front of him.

Lewis does just fine catching out of the backfield. Actually one of his strengths is catching that screen and making plays in the open field

Quote:

Jamal Lewis caught 16 passes last season. Willis Mcgahee caught 18.

I hardly see that as a vast improvement.

Mcgahee caught 28 in 2005 (his best year so far), Jamal Lewis caught 32 passes in 2005.

You make a great point. And actually since 2004:

McGahee 68 Rec for 503 yds and 0 TDs
Lewis 60 Rec for 422 yds and 2 TDs

Droughns 98 Rec for 779 yds and 6 TDs
S Jackson 152 Rec for 1,315 yds and 5 TDs

LT 160 Rec for 1,319 yds and 11 TD's

Clearly I over-valued McGahee's pass catching success. That said, Ozzy was quoted as one of the biggest reasons they wanted to sign him was his "soft hands and ability to catch passes out of the backfield". We'll have to wait and see if the Raven's offense can improve McGahee's receiving numbers.

No doubt he MAY have better pass catching abilities, I was just saying he hasn't show that to be true.

That is JUST what we need! The Browns White Album with a Helmet Stripe. Play it backwards and it apologizes to Jim Brown, Otto Graham, and the others. At 78 it flies off the turntable and returns to Berea. It will review all the highlights of the last three seasons in roughly 7.pi seconds.
Use the Draft, Phil! And may the ElfForce be with you!
