Is Tony Grossi interested in anything but making sure this organization is embroiled in controversey?!
If we were to straighten out and win it all Im sure this guy would sulk of into a corner and shrivel like a salted slug!
With all due respect, How does this not seem like business as usual? Holmgren is acting unprofessional
He told him 35 times, "Talk to the coach" and he is right!
The coach has been talking, this isn't Pat's press conference.
So no, he's not right.

You mean it's ONLY about the Colt concussion issue? I want to hear what he has to say about EVERYTHING we've seen (and smelled) this year.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Browns-did-not-check-McCoy-until-after-game-41238383
This should cost people their jobs.
It also muddles the excuses because Holmgren is contradicting Shurmur's statements about the attention that McCoy received regarding the concussion injury sustained.
When all this shakes out, I think Shurmur will be gone a so will the trainers and medical staff.
A test which he PASSED!!!

If that's the case, he can breathe a sigh of relief. He's still a young QB that can be successful on a team that knows how to use one. That doesn't appear to be the Browns.

He's very right! He said he would NOT speak for the coach, would NOT second guess him in front of the media. As coach I would NOT want him to do that and as a man Holmgren is holding to his word! You dont have to like it agree with it...

After the game? Not a test that was administered less than two minutes after the hit was made.

He can be successful on a team that has everything exactly perfect around him.
Just so we are clear, that doesn't make him a good QB. that makes him adequate, good backup.

Yes. Holmgren said it at least twice. He said he felt 'funky', but first tested positive for a concussion on friday morning when he came in.

I'm not sure what you are saying? I said the guy is acting unprofessional by blowing up at the media for them questioning the "business as usual" thing. God forbid anyone question the almighty Holmgren.

He can be successful on a team with anything that's even remotely competent around him. He's surrounded by incompetence right now. At this moment, I include Thomas and Mack in that assessment. They aren't nearly as good as when Steinbach is between them. The right side of the line has been sewage since 1999. The receivers are below second rate. The RBs are fragile and their egos are even worse.
That's not even to say anything about the coaching staff.

He deflected every question about McCoy's play or progress and said "that wouldn't be fair to Colt" and he and Heckert will adress the media after the season
If he was sold on him he would at least give SOME love, wouldn't he?
When the HC say "he battled" and the Pres deflects questions and was quoted earlier in the season saying "we will keep searching for that guy"...well, I think it's safe to say that Colt isn't highly rated by them

He said earlier that sometimes he feels like some of the reporters are hurting the team. I absolutely agree with him. I've seen it over the years with dumb interviews and articles about our WRs by MKC and stupid things that Tony Grossi says. I get it that they're supposed to be "Objective".
I just wish they could be more like Terry Pluto instead of always trying to find some controversy.
I like Holmgren a lot, and if we fire him, we're making a ridiculously huge mistake. This is one guy we should stick with

He deflected questions about the receivers as well. It wasn't just McCoy. He wouldn't go into specs about any individual player until the end of the season.

from PFT . . . Holmgren: “It’s unfair” to criticize Browns on McCoy’s concussion Posted by Michael David Smith on December 14, 2011, 12:25 PM EST Browns President Mike Holmgren attempted to, in his words, “Set the record as straight as I can” in a press conference today, after the team has been widely criticized for its handling of quarterback Colt McCoy’s concussion on Thursday. Specifically, Holmgren stood up for the Browns’ medical staff and head coach Pat Shurmur for allowing McCoy to return to the game following a head-to-head hit from Steelers linebacker James Harrison. “Our medical staff and our training staff, they are the best in football,” Holmgren said. “These guys are really good. So one of the things that is troubling to me in this whole process is that they’re getting slammed a bit, along with the head coach. . . . And it’s unfair.” Holmgren said the Browns’ medical staff hadn’t seen the Harrison-on-McCoy hit and only went out to check on McCoy when they were alerted to it by others on the sideline. Holmgren said that when the medical staff reached McCoy, he was lucid and complaining only about pain in his hand, not his head. “When the injury took place on the field, at that time the question came up, did the doctors see the impact on the play? They did not. And our trainers did not,” Holmgren said. “They were all working, as is typical in a game. They were working on other injured players in the bench area or behind players. So they did not see the play. They heard the crowd reaction, someone said, ‘Colt’s down.’” Holmgren said that the Browns have met with league and union officials about the incident. He said the franchise will not be facing any type of discipline for its handling of McCoy, but that the Browns do want to make sure they’re doing everything that the league and the union think they can and should do about concussions. “We’ve met with the NFL as well as the union doctors,” Holmgren said. “There’s a lot of speculation, there’s a lot of things that have been written and said, and the reason that we waited as an organization to have this meeting is that we had to have those other meetings before. . . . I don’t expect anything to happen in a punitive manner, but it was a good meeting.” Six days after McCoy’s concussion, Holmgren said he hasn’t spoken with McCoy but is optimistic that McCoy will be OK. “He still has a headache,” Holmgren said. “But other than that, from what they tell me, he’s good.”

I'd be willing to be Rick Perry's $10,000 that the trash can in Holmgrens' office has a huge dent in it. Either that or his cat runs and hides when he comes into the room. He's got some serious anger right now. Can't blame him. Getting called to his office after the season is over will be like taking that last walk across the hall in Lucasville Prison.

It still amazes me that so many on here didn't give the Browns a chance in hell of even getting close to 500 and yet when it works out as they predicted,,, they complain...LOL Funny stuff

I may be wrong but I kind of felt holmgren thought Colt was being less than honest. "Im ok, to play, "I dont remember the plays". They were saying colt talked to the reporters after the game and remembered, how did he forget the next day when talking to his dad? That type of stuff.
I didnt see anything firm about Colt not being here but again, it seemed Holmy kind of questioned Colts stories.

That would make a great end-of-season press conference. And it would surely go a long way towards making this Browns fan feel pretty good about the future of the team.

I agree. That may be the most passion we've seen out of anybody from the Browns FO since 99. I like it. He made it very clear that the status quo isn't good enough. Today actually made me more confident in him to turn this around.
If he would actually follow through with that Grossi head flush after the season, he'd have me 100%.

I'll go to bat for Colt here. when I was 19 I was in a really bad car accident. I had a car pull out in front of me and the impact was like doing 50 into a brick wall.
I don't remember what happened now. However, after the car accident I filled out a police report and was able to remember everything. 6-8 hours later my memory went blank, my vision was 20-50, I was a complete disaster- with terrible headaches and i had no short term memory. long term was fine)
I still don't remember that time in my life at all and It took me several months to recover. I had a severe case of post concussion syndrome. I was in and out of hospitals and met some of the top 3 brain specialists in the world etc etc. it was very scary that I couldn't remember something simple as where I put my keys. I lived that way for several months and it finally got better on it's own.
I stand behind Colt for that reason.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

Great presser.
I liked the passion Holmgren showed, the explanation, although unfortunate it happened, was logical and totally made sense. The docs/trainers were busy doing their jobs and working on other players, they weren't watching the game and ignoring players that had injuries (minor or not). They didn't see the play. The NFL observer did not inform our medical staff of the type of hit Colt took. Colt only complained about his hand, was lucid and alert during their questions. The docs can only go with what they are told by the patient at this time, and for a player or coach or other personnel to come over and say 'hey doc, why you looking at his hand, he took a vicious shot to the head', well that just isn't going to happen, you let those that have a job to do and know how to do it, do it.
Which brings up some peoples thoughts that Shurmer is gone, or Colt is gone, or Holmgren himself is gone. I didn't get that impression at all. He stated repeatedly, and expressively at the end of it that Shurmer 'will be the coach here a long time'. As to individual players, he correctly said 'please allow me to wait til after the season and himself and Heckert will address those types of questions at their end of year presser'. I did not get any indication that anyone specific is 'gone', but that those that don't do their job will force he and Heck to make some decisions on (i.e. Pontibriand, whom I always liked).
He adequately dressed the press down, rightfully so imo. He sympathized with them having a tough job to cover local sports but sometimes national reports come in and surprise (get a scoop on) them. He said they are trying to be more 'transparent', but that he can't guarantee that it won't happen again. He said he knows its better and continues to get better everyday, and will continue to do so.
Another observation, just my humble opinion, but he didn't sound like he wanted to coach anytime soon, if at all ever again (at least at pro level, a part of him has always liked high school teaching and I could see him do that as his final stop, just because of the type of guy he is).
All in all here is a short bullet list of the issues I took away from this;
We won't be facing any fines or issues from the league. Our medical staff did everything right per the current procedures. They know and are working on improving them 'tweaking them will be an ongoing thing'. Colt showed no signs of being concussed until well after the game and passed those tests until Friday morning, when he did not pass that test. He wishes our record was better, and it would be if players who are paid to do a job would do it. (i.e. snap, catch, block, etc). Player evaluations, and or discussions will be in a joint presser with Holmgren and Heckert, after the season. Shurmer will be our head coach for a 'long time', he said it many times.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

He said he never talked to Colt himself. He just seemed like he was wading through all the accounts and how they differed. So much we dont know about our own brains.

I don't buy that at all. Holmgren has been around the block a couple of times,, I'm sure he understands that Colt probably did think it was OK.. And that's why they have guys there to tell him he's not.
So I am not buying into that line of thinking even a little.
Besides, why would anyone suddenly think that Colt isn't being truthful.. Does he strike you as the kinda kid that would lie about it.. What has he ever done to make you think he's not an honest kid?
