I see Droughns being shopped for trade material but it's not like we absolutely must get rid of him before the roster bonus kicks in. Droughns has value and we should get it if he's going to move to another team. There's no doubt that somebody will sign him because he's good at what he does. I guess it all boils down to how much an extra pick is worth to us this year.

He came here and worked as hard as anyone to try to turn this team around. If he's sent packing it should be as a player who has some value to the organization, not a bum who just couldn't cut it anymore.

Not a surprise if it happens, but that doesn't mean we have to like it. I like Droughns and I really hope he catches on somewhere and kicks some butt (except against us). Plus, my wife has a Droughns jersey. Before, she had a Suggs jersey. Anyone else we should get rid of? I'll have my wife get their jersey and they're as good as gone!

lol.. thats why i got a Winlsow jersey.. I knew he would be here for years.. lol..

Pontbriand jersey sales increase 500% in Browns offseason because everyone else is getting cut... more news at 11

I mean come on... he even had 2 tackles last year

I think we may have to get her a personalized one or maybe a Sipe or Kosar or Newsome, or something like that.

Probably so, but as I explained in another thread, it isn't clear if the roster bonus would transfer with the main body of the contract or not.....just depends on how it was written.

LOL....I dont know why, but that reminds me of my Uncle Herb...I was younger and he had a fit, was all crazed mad when the Browns drafted Greg Priutt out of Oklahoma, he was to small, would get chewed up in Cleveland, was too small for our division, about two years later we were at his house to watch the game and he was wearing a # 34 Pruitt Jersey...thats when i started realizing ya never know what your gonna get when ya draft....

True, but none of that has happened here, or recently.

Carter is a 6' 200 lbs. 27 year old receiver who has slowly become more and more a part of the G-men's offense. Last year catching 22 balls and 2 TD's. Also has some limited return experience by the looks of it. Basically we got something, which is better than nothing

Heres the thing This just isn't Droughns for Carter. It's Droughns, not paying 3.5 mill cap hit next season, and whatever hit we would take just to cut him...for Carter.

Now there's a little bit more of space under the cap.

I havent heard a thing about this, did we really trade Droughns for Tim Carter? I knew he was being shopped, but didnt expect to get a semi decent player for him.

Anybody got anything credible?

Let's remember that this is all wild speculation right now. Is it possible that it's true? Yeah, but I think it's just as possible that it's not.

If true, it´s not a bad deal imho....

Tim Carter is a 2nd round bust but a decent backup WR...a No.4 speedster

Career Notes | Agility | High School | Personal | Stats

ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a solid muscular build with long arms and broad shoulders … Fine athlete who also ran track for the Tigers … Has good body control, showing sudden moves coming off the snap … Effective route-runner out of the backfield … Has great acceleration as a return man … Works the sidelines well, keeping balance as he extends for the pass … Sinks his hips and separates quickly once he finds the seam … Known for his leaping ability, he utilizes those skills effectively battling for the ball … Has the pull-away speed needed to elude after the catch … Catches the ball cleanly with hands extended … Can track and locate the ball on deep routes … Very creative after the catch, showing the hip snap and wiggle to make the initial tackler miss … Very precise cutting in the open … Battles downfield as a blocker, delivering a solid jolt … Dangerous when lining up in the backfield, creating mismatches for linebackers with his speed.

Negatives: Despite his track speed, he lacks flexibility in his moves … Likes to trap the ball, letting it absorb into his body … Has problems changing directions and will tend to lose his concentration when not involved in the play … Has more pick-up speed than a quick initial burst … Had a "high maintainance" personality earlier in his career, but has matured over the years.
CAREER NOTES
Two-sport star who was originally a prep quarterback that was converted to cornerback upon arriving at Auburn … Shifted to the offensive side as a sophomore … Has a great future as a return specialist, having gained 956 yards on 40 kickoff returns (23.9 avg) with a touchdown during his career … His 23.9-yard average ranks fourth on the school's career-record list while his 956 yards placed him fifth on the Tigers' all-time chart … Caught 57 passes for 842 yards (14.8 avg) and four touchdowns while starting 15 of 29 games … Added 173 yards on 24 carries (7.2 avg).

Tim Carter, eh? Hmm.... If I'm not mistaken, this guy is a real burner (the number 4.31 comes to mind). I think he's also been injured a fair amount during his career. Last year was the first year he made it through an entire season.

No, not really. He's just as fast, but signicantly bigger. I've never seen him play, however, so I can't vouch for his hands (although he couldn't be a whole lot worse than Dropcutt).

My thought process in regards to this is, why the heck would we do a trade like this, other than to just get something for Droughns instead of outright releasing him?

I mean, it doesn't seem this Carter guy has been very productive. Maybe he's possible trade bait for the future?

Now while I wasn't exactly head over heels for Droughns, I certainly don't think he was as terrible as all that. He was definitely serviceable, and I would not have minded at all if he was our RB in 2007. JMHO

The Giants have traded for Reuben Droughns, according to scout.com.

The deal will reportedly send disappointing wideout Tim Carter to Cleveland. Droughns was scheduled to receive a $1.75 roster bonus on March 17 that the Browns were considered highly unlikely to pay.
