2012 Opponents determined

By Matt Florjancic, ClevelandBrowns.com Staff Writer

Posted 11 hours ago

The 2012 opponents have been announced for the Cleveland Browns.

Now that the 2011 regular season has come to a close, the Browns know who and where they will be playing their games in 2012.

In addition to home-and-home series with the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North Division, the Browns will face the AFC West and NFC East on their rotations.

Based on their finish in the AFC North, the Browns will play the fourth place teams from the AFC East and AFC South.

The Browns will host the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, and travel to play the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.

Here is a look back in history against each of the Browns’ 2012 opponents:

AFC NORTH

Baltimore: The Browns are 7-19-0 overall against the Ravens and dropped both contests to Baltimore in 2011. The last Browns win, a 33-30 overtime decision, came in Baltimore on Nov. 18, 2007.

Cincinnati: The Browns are 36-41-0 all-time against the Bengals and lost both matchups in 2011. The Browns last defeated the Bengals 23-20 at home on Oct. 3, 2010.

Pittsburgh: The Browns are 56-62-0 against the Steelers and fell twice to Pittsburgh in 2011. The Browns defeated the Steelers 13-6 on Thursday Night Football on Dec. 10, 2009 at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

HOME GAMES

Kansas City: The Browns are 10-10-2 against the Chiefs and 7-3-1 at home. The Browns last defeated the Chiefs at home in a 31-28 overtime game on Dec. 3, 2006.

San Diego: The Browns are 7-14-1 against the Chargers and 3-8-1 in home games. The Browns last defeated the Chargers 20-16 on Oct. 7, 2001 at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Buffalo: The Browns are 10-6-0 against the Bills, including a 5-3-0 mark both at home and on the road. The Browns last hosted and defeated the Bills 8-0 in blizzard-like conditions on Dec. 16, 2007.

Philadelphia: The Browns are 31-15-1 against the Eagles and 17-6-1 in home games. The Browns last hosted the Eagles on Oct. 24, 2004. Philadelphia won the game 34-31 in overtime.

Washington: The Browns are 33-10-1 against the Redskins, including a 17-6-0 mark in home games in the series. The Browns hosted and beat the Redskins 17-13 on Oct. 3, 2004.

AWAY GAMES

Denver: The Browns are 5-18-0 against the Broncos and 3-9-0 in away games. The Browns last won in Denver on Oct. 8, 1990 when they posted a 30-29 victory.

Oakland: The Browns return to Oakland for the second straight year and fifth time since 2005. They are 8-11-0 against the Raiders and 6-7-0 in road games.

Indianapolis: For the second consecutive season, the Browns will play the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Browns are 15-12-0 against the Colts and 10-5-0 on the road, both in Baltimore and Indianapolis.

Dallas: The Browns are 15-11-0 against the Cowboys and 6-7-0 in road games during the series. The Browns posted a 19-14 win at Dallas on Dec. 10, 1994.

New York Giants: The Browns are 26-19-2 against the Giants, including a 12-9-2 mark in games played at New York. The Browns last defeated the Giants back on Dec. 1, 1985, when they earned a 35-33 win.

Maybe I can make it to the Denver game. I definitely will not be going to Oakland.

On paper, that doesn't look too bad.

Lotta teams in there who had troubled 2011's.

Looks like 3-4, 4PM starts....rats.

I hate those.

I hope we don't get any night games.

Maybe the Dallas game will be on Thanksgiving....I'd like that.

I think rg3 goes to the redskins, anyway I don't want him

I'll say today, Tannehill will be a better pro than Rg3, hold me to it.

I always consider how the Browns finish in a superdivision that contains the teams or cities that used to be the in the Browns division, at least back to the 80's

So the AFC north + Jacksonville, Tennessee, and Houston,

I just hope in the near future they can pull out of 2nd to last or last place of those.

Interesting, I really wanted to see a Browns vs Chargers game in the Playoffs in 2007 and next year will be the next time they play the Chargers and I think the 1st time since 07 when they didn't get a chance to beat the Chargers in the playoffs.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

We played the Chargers 2 years ago.

Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I have a hard time following your thought process.

0-16.

Done looking at opponents/schedules and playing the "we should beat them" or "they'll probably beat us" game. Until this team isn't a garbage fire every season I'm calling 0-16.

Time to get it done on the field, boys.

I agree.

With the way the team is right now, I don't see how any of those games are "possible" or even "guaranteed" wins. Most of those teams were decent this year. The Colts should have Manning or Luck by that time and will be much better than they were this year.

Is it just me or have we not only played Oakland, but played AT Oakland....every year for the last 8 or so years??

At least it seems that way.

Just looked it up. We'll have played them 5 of the last 7 years and 4 of those were on the road. Weird.

I thought we beat the Giats 4-5 years ago, pretty solidly, if I remember right. Something about Ryan Tucker and that game comes to mind. Maybe his first game back and the team looked good? JUst sayin cause the article says we haven't beat the Giants since '85.

We usually finish last, and so do they, so you'll always be matched up against that team. You can probably say the same for Buffalo, we play them a lot because they've finished last.

Also why you see the Steelers and Patriots matched up a lot over the last 10 years.

We beat the snot outta them that night - on national TV
It was the year after they won the Super Bowl, and we hit 'em in the chops all night long and there was nothing they could do about it.

Second, it's about time we blew it up and started over again.. I mean these guys have had at least 1 or 2 years to turn this thing around already.

lol well I only really see 4-7 wins next year myself if Shurmur gets a real OC
Otherwise I think he may be right if we dont win more then 5 games next year Randy will be on the war path.
Our Prez will have lead this team from 5-11 to 4-12 to 5-11 that isnt progress across 3 years of drafts unless we give up the farm for a QB this year and that QB flops then it will be these things take time.

I told my wife the other day I will be over 50 before we see a competive team and Im 47 now which should show you how much work needs to be done. Im almost already planning on next years draft prospects and who will be in the top 10.

If you need 3 years to be a winner you got here 2 years to early. Get it done Browns.

Nick, I feel your pain. I grew up seeing Jim Brown, Paul Warfield, leroy kelly, great offense and solid defense we were in the championship in 64,65,68,69. I thought vas a kid it would continue until 1070 when former owner/stool sample traded Kanicki, Warfield, Ron Johnson, Bob Matheson, Jack Gregory, Charly Harraway, marvin Upshaw tearing gashes out of both the offense and defense.
I told all my friends watch out what Chuck Noll was doing in Pittsburgh, the perennial doormat was turning solid.

I saw us shove out Marty Shottenhiemer playoffs all four years and dumbass said we had "plateaued". we fell oof that mesa never to return. we have stunk it up the better past of 20 years and most young Browns fans are WEARING STEELERS gear.

I rant when I strongly disagree with the direction(or lack thereof) this team is headed.
I think this HC stinks and the team was sloppy in all facets under him.
I now hear hints we may NOT hire an OC if no "puppet" can be had( that is SO reassuring).
I hear strong Hints Hillis is gone( considering the absolute vacuum of talent behind him I find this beyond any logic).
We are already starting the new year on the same note we left it: In Denial.
we stink, our division is ALL in the playoffs and the gap grows ever wider.
Top teams designate their talent and KEEP it, teams like our do not and cannot, hire bad coaches and have lousy front offices.
H&H are by far the best front office since ernie Accorsi yet considering the accumulated minds we have afforded employment, we are horrible for a reason.

I am, hoping we all get a reason to cheer. I am 57 and not getting younger.

well said akronjoe.... I was born two months after the last championship, and now I'm pushing 47 with very little confidence that I'll ever sip from the champagne bottle that's been sitting on top the wine rack for decades. Maybe my son can uncork it, or maybe his son will, who knows.

The saddest thing I see is the growing apathy. We're so familiar with losing and basement dwelling, that it doesn't appear to bother people any more.

Losing for a long time does so many things...its crazy

So many different mentalities come to light....

Theres:
- Woe is us...were cursed...see Cleveland, Boston, Chicago Cubs
- Theres the we must fix this! see NYK, NYY, LA Lakers, etc...
- Theres the theres always next year...see Detroit, Houston, the Mets
- Theres the apathy...see Jax, STL, Clippers etc...
- Theres love hate misery...See TWolves fans, Cleveland fans now, Bills and Sabres fans etc...

And many others that happen on much smaller scales...

Lots of times they create so many different opinions on how to fix it...and often times theyd be wrong in real life, and other times theyd prolly work...but theyre all different.

Where are we?

We should be in the we must fix this...
Our FO is right there...our fans...well theyre more in the hatredy mentality. We need to see immediate gains, and then they need to sustain...which this FO doesnt particularly believe in, because its unrealistic...no one should expect the 49ers to keep this up...but theyve been treading on the precipice of success for a long time...great defense, just paired with terrible offense...
Our FO believes in building...not putting together. And thats the way it should be. Putting together can fall apart easily...something built stays together unless there is a major outside force.
Pittsburgh is built, Philly was built, NE was built, GB is built, Indy was built (major outside force was Peytons neck), and NO has been built, and Detroit is still being built though nearly completed.

If we build, we will get there...i think were a year or 2 behind Detroit because offense shows gains more readily. Defense...as weve seen, doesnt show improvement, because defense doesnt score points.

We have an offense that is in the process of being built. We have rookies and youth on the OL, as well as a ton of talent in Mack and Thomas. We have a young WR that is talented, as well as 4 good TEs. Our RBs...are a big question mark, but when healthy...should be a force. Healthy Hillis and Jackson could be great. OR...Healthy Hardesty (remember its usually 2 years before a player gets back his explosiveness after an ACL tear...see Welker, Braylon, and youll see with AP) and Jackson with a developed OGB or Armond (who i think could really really develop with an offseason and time to learn how to do what he did in college at an NFL level)

Our defense...lacks game changing plays...we need 1 player at each level to reach elite...if we can get 2, well have a playoff D. We need a DE, a LB, a CB, and a safety (though i think with an offseason Mike Adams will become that, so really just 3 to become great, and i think Skrine could be that)...

We're going to make a Detroit like jump next year (if we draft well, and find FAs that fit our needs...we dont necessarily need a guy like Nnamdi, or a Santonio Holmes style signing, or LeCharles/Shaffer style signing...

We need more signings like Sproles to NO, Peppers to Chicago (Mario Williams to Cleveland please?), and so on.
Not huge...unless they fit. Mario Williams would be a huge signing that would fit. Matt Flynn could be a huge signing that could fit.
Under the radar signings that fill a need is what would help us though. John Abraham would be an under the radar signing as he is aging. a guy like Harry Douglas (though i dont want him, i think hes an underachiever) would be an under the radar signing. but the signings should be to build depth...let the draft get ur playmakers

Thats my opinion...

Depth is FA
Playmakers/Gamechangers are draft.

Hmm.. it kinda occurs to me especially after SackDawg commented that he wouldn't mind going to the Denver game.. I think we have a track record of beating the previous year SB winner hehe

We'll see how far Tebow and Denver goes...

I've been to a Browns game at Oakland. Certainly an experience although both teams played poorly.

I'm pretty sure that we're doing a house trade for Thanksgiving to go to the Macy's parade so I really hope we're playing the Giants in NYC then.

Denver would be fun. Especially if it's at the end of the season and can go skiing.

And Dallas...would love to see that stadium and screen. Too bad the only thing that Dallas has to offer are strip clubs! I doubt the wife and daughter are up for that.

Kidding aside what is there to do in Dallas for me, my wife and our 1 yr old?

Any locals let me know. I've only been there once and it was when SBC bought Ameritech and I had to meet some of the new leadership. Didn't get to see the city.

As you see with all the lemmings I iss off here I have not slid into apathy. what angers many seems the lockstep to the "company line" out of Berea.
Now it is Hillis is a bad guy and look how good this Hardesty kid is. pure Jim Jones insanity punch. do you lie down and pretend to drink it?
Makes me want to spit up.
I might be able to settle for apathy but the front office dolts keep making stupid moves and pretend the fans, or really don't care if they notice.
This year a high note was where we had "we followed all the procedures for concussion" and days later "Colt was never checked because the medical staff never saw it".
Too hard to make this .hit up.
I love the outcry for an OC and as it subsides the .."wait and hire the right guy and if you can't find him do it yourself again". Insane.

talking about RBs herock said zippo about Hillis and spoke of how hopeful they were of Hardesty. The front office was trying to float an illusion that one offered hope and the other a , well, nothing he is gone.
Kind of an Alice in Wonderland Un teaparty in Berea.

"we followed all the procedures for concussion"

There you go again, putting words into someones mouth then bitching about what they said.

For the last time, it was said they followed protocol, that they followed procedures. The word "concussion" was never in any of the quotes. You joe, you put that in there and then hold it against Shurmur for saying it when he never did.

And when I said "for the last time" I mean for the last time. There is absolutely no getting through to you on anything. You state made up crap and keep pounding it as though it will become truer if you say it often enough. Newsflash joe, it don't.

You are not worth responding to when that's the guy you're going to be and it is the guy you've been and it's only common sense that it's the guy you'll continue to be.

I'd hate to have to deal with you in daily life off the message board cause if you act in real life like to do on here I'd have bashed you in the head with a friggin brick long before now.
