Here's an eye opener.....

Just 12 games in to the season, Kyrie had his 5th straight 20 point game...something LeBron never did as a rookie.

That's incredible.

I wasn't sold on Irving ..... I was a Williams/ and a PG at 4 type of guy.......but he's proving me completely wrong so far. So is Thompson ...... who I greeted with a huge "WHAT???" when he was drafted.

Obviously I don't follow a huge amount of college basketball. lol

I'm thinking about going to a game here soon... I dunno if I want to go to one where I "know" we "should" win (aka my style for picking Browns games to go to) or if I want to shell out and goto the Heat game, or against another High class team...

Go to see the star power play. Don't worry about what the outcome might be. I went to the Lakers game last season because I wanted to watch Kobe (and the tickets were free from work) expecting a blowout. Got rewarded with a win.

I knew Kyrie was the right pick. People that wanted D-Will just waaaaaay over thought it.

This is why I wanted Marshon Brooks:

Kyrie is probably going to win ROY, even though there is a nice handful of players doing well in their rookie year. I think he will get it above Rubio (who looks incredible)

Rubio makes me wish I had the league pass again, because Minny will not be on tv much at all. No Thursday TNT games for them. I wish the NBA would push all of their teams to national tv, but I get it.

Can someone tell them they need to stink this year to get another premier component in the draft?

At this point they're going to play themselves in the playoffs.

Luckily, even though they have won some games on the road, they have played a number of really awful teams.

However, I do worry that they will develop into a team that can beat those bad teams consistently, and who can beat a good teams once in a while, and knock themselves out of getting 1 or even 2 really premiere players in this next draft.

I really think that this next draft is where they try to make a move using their assets to grab a 2nd 1st round pick. It's really early to start projecting this stuff ..... but I just have a feeling that it's the direction they're going to go. If Casspi can continue his recent scoring surge, he may have a home at SF. That would mean that we could look for a big body at C and a hot shooting SG and have a pretty damn good, young team.

How long until BSPN picks up on him being pretty good, and starts their campaign for him leaving Cleveland?

I really like Meyers Leonard of Illinois. He is athletic, can shoot, tough, very good help defender and is not afraid of facing big boys. His only weakness is that he floats around the perimeter too much and he needs to add more muscle. I'd love to see him in the pick and roll with Kyrie. He is an offensive guy first, but he is no slouch on defense. Him and Tristan would be tough to score on inside the paint.

LOL I think they let him get through his (shortened) rookie year anyway.

I am trying to imagine how ESPN would handle a Cleveland Championship. (or 2) "Yeah, they have a championship team great coaching staff, and a superior front office, but those players have to know that they can't get the same endorsements and playtime living in Cleveland. Plus they have to shovel snow. Yeah, I see them all leaving to play for inferior teams in a bigger market."

Sad part is, I would guess that a majority of NBA players would choose playing for a big-market team over playing for a championship caliber team. The Clippers and Knicks are bigger FA draws than the Thunder. Nobody wanted to come to Cleveland with Lebron except an over the hill Shaq, and that was in a trade. The Spurs don't draw big names.

"Top story today, Tim Tebow is putting up hall of fame stats... in the Canadian Football league, stay tuned for a 3 hour piece by Jeremy Schaap about the trials and tribulations of Tim Tebow."

"Also, the Miami Heat, how will Lebron and D-Wade deal with the 4th straight finals loss last June, this one to the Oklahoma City Thunder who were without Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in games 4, 5, 6, and 7?"

"With Aaron Rodgers season ending in week 4 due to injury, we have Ed Werder down in Mississippi to see if you-know-who will make a comeback next year"

"Plus, more stories on the Yankees, Red Sox, Heat, Lakers, NFC East, AFC East, and more tonight at 11 on Lebron and Tim Tebow, oh and the Cleveland Browns won the superbowl in double overtime, good night everybody!"

It's the way it is. It sucks, but it's the truth. It is a pretty argument for those who want the Cavs to suck hard this year so they get a top pick. It's true that Kyrie Irving may leave when he gets the chance, so some see it as a golden opportunity to get a quality player who could entice him to stay, all while building a championship caliber team.

I believe it, I understand it, I just can't root for my team to lose.

I honestly believe it will only take one guy to make Cleveland a place for FA's. One guy has to sign a deal here and make things work. No, not Larry Hughes. I mean one big time FA. Someone who says, screw the beaches and big city life, I want to win, and I want to win NOW.

The Spurs are really good at developing their own guys, and also finding guys who are on the downside of their careers, and get rejuvenated for a bit. It helps when you have a guy like Duncan who makes everybody better, and a point guard like Parker who does the same. Not many teams get open looks like San Antonio does.

it's funny how much these star NBA players just don't get it. and this stuff just makes them look worse to fans, so why do it?

ok, added the Clippers to your list. good for you Howard. umm, they just traded all their assets to NO to get Paul. what exactly do you expect Orlando to accept back in order to get you there?

it's like when Kobe refused to be dealt to the Bulls unless they got to keep all their best players. sorry fellas, it doesn't quite work that way.

It's sickening, it's the one reason why I don't pimp the NBA as much as I love it.

Say what you want about Lebron, at least he did what he did when he was a free agent. At least he said in the beginning of the 2009-2010 season that he wasn't talking about his free agency. At least give him that. I think what Carmelo did was bad, although I don't think it was as bad as what Dwight is doing.

On the other hand though, at least these other guys are allowing their current teams the ability to shop them for the best possible deal. With James it was "I'm going here, Deal with it".

True, but Lebron knew this team was going to be in the mix for a championship as they did finish with the #1 seed. Whether or not he thought they could win it all is one thing, but had he demanded a trade mid-season, it would have been 20x as worse as the decision.

I really think Dwight is on a pretty good team, and I think Orlando's front office blinked first by breaking up that team.

They were really really good when they had that 2009 team. They got beat by a really good Laker team, not the end of the world.

That's true.

I just think that MeBron (typo ... but I think that it's appropriate, and thus I'll keep it) hurt this team even more by waiting till free agency was over so that he could really screw us over.

If he would have made his decision early on in free agency, then the Cavaliers could have had a chance to find someone to replace his huge salary, using that trade exemption. However, by waiting, he really hurt the team a lot.

Well, last year anyway. he may have the unintended consequence of helping the Cavaliers in the long run by getting us in position to get Irving and Thompson.

Yeah. I mean if they did deal LBJ, maybe they wanted to avoid a decision scenario or even a normal classy scenario that still sucks, they might be trying to put a band aid on a gunshot wound... I mean what in return would you have really gotten for LBJ?

Dan Gilbert swallowed his pride by knocking down the whole thing, and it's already paying off.

I'm not sure, but it's their radio link.

It is about 3-5 seconds behind CBS Sports GameTracker. It's kinda funny to see the score update and then hear about it on the radio link.

Gotta move Andy. Can't have him and Jamison on the floor at the same time on the defensive end, and Jamison can score.

Jamison throws up a billion shots and is averaging 16.8 PPG and 5.7 RPG.

He is shooting 42% from the field.

Andy is averaging 9.8 PPG and 11.2 RPG, and is shooting 48% from the field.

Just give Andy 6 more shots/game and he'd be right there with Jamison in scoring.

Actually though, I'm not opposed to trading anyone except for Irving and Thompson. I kind of like having Sessions and having that backup PG who can come in and give offense in his own right, so I would want major value for him. Is Harangody still playing? I could trade guys like Gibson (who should have some value late in the year) Eyenga (who knows if the light will ever come on for him?) Parker and Jamison (obviously if we can get anything of value near the trade deadline) and even Andy ..... but I would want a 1st round pick and/or a quality young player for him. I think that he fits what Byron Scott wants at Center ...... but if we can add another high quality piece, then go for it.

I'll tell you a kid who impressed me this season is Mullens for Charlotte. He's got a big body, and it looks like the light night be coming on for him after being shipped out of Oklahoma City. He played pretty well against us as well. I think that he's got a couple of years left on his deal, and he cost the Bobcats a 2nd round pick ..... but he looks like the kind of guy I think could develop into a solid 5.

Ilgauskas Teleconference

CLEVELAND, OH - January 18, 2012 - The Cleveland Cavaliers today announced that Zydrunas Ilgauskas is joining the team’s front office as Special Assistant to the General Manager. The announcement was made today by Cavs General Manager Chris Grant. In his role as Special Assistant to the General Manager, Ilgauskas will be involved with front office responsibilities, including evaluation of amateur and professional prospects.

“We are very pleased to have Z begin the next phase of his basketball career with the Cavaliers and I am looking forward to working closely with him. Z has always had a great desire to learn and succeed and he already has a deep understanding and appreciation of the game and the NBA. We are extremely happy to welcome him back as part of our franchise,” said Grant.

Ilgauskas was originally drafted by the Cavaliers with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft. The Lithuanian made his home in Cleveland, playing the first 12 years of his 13-season career with the Cavaliers. The Cavs all-time leader in games played (771), Z also tops the Cavaliers record books in offensive rebounds (2,336), total rebounds (5,904) and blocks (1,269) while ranking second in points (10,616).

“I am really excited to come back to the Cavaliers, a team that I have so much history with and contributing to our future success,” said Ilgauskas. “I’m also looking forward to learning more about this game that I love so much and working with Chris Grant and the rest of the organization in every way that I can.”

A two-time all-star (2003, 2005), Ilgauskas finished his career with averages of 13.0 points on .476 shooting, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 27.2 minutes in 843 games (724 starts). The 7-foot-3 center played in six postseasons with the Cavaliers, including playing a major role on the Cavaliers teams that reached at least the second round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs in five consecutive seasons (2006-2010) and made the franchise’s first appearance in the NBA Finals in 2007.

I think that Z could teach a young big man a lot about shooting free throws and hitting that little short jumper Z used to love so much.

It sounds like he's going to be more involved with scouting though.

Just because Z can do it, doesn't mean he can teach somebody else to do it. They have shooting coaches that are supposed to do that. I'm sure there are things Z probably could help him with like watching film and breaking down opponents, physical preparation for a long NBA season as a big man, etc.. but technique for shooting? I doubt it.

Interesting tidbit here...

Two former Cavaliers are lighting it up tonight. Delonte West has 17 at the half for Dallas and Mo Williams has 18 for the Clippers. The two have only missed one shot between them.

I think this goes to show that 66-16 squad was most certainly NOT all LeBron.

Lebron had his dream team last year and didn't match that team in wins.

His dream team wasn't even the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Heat was up 2-1 in the Finals, and wound up losing 4-2.

I just wanted to go through that all again to remind myself.

Anyway ..... I think that the rest of that team was decent, but not spectacular. Part of the problem was that Lebron demanded the ball at all times, and never really learned to get his teammates involved effectively. I think that there were some decent players ..... not any of the GOAT .... but certainly effective NBA players.
