A poster on another board I frequent is saying...

Len Pasquarelli is reporting we have traded Droughns to the New York Giants for Wide Receiver Tim Carter. I'll search for a link....

It's official!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2793305

"Filling their need for a proven running back to team with youngster Brandon Jacobs, the New York Giants on Friday acquired Reuben Droughns from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for wide receiver Tim Carter, ESPN.com has learned.

Cleveland has been shopping Droughns in trade talks since signing unrestricted free agent tailback Jamal Lewis to a one-year contract earlier this week. The Giants were seeking a tailback to replace the retired Tiki Barber.

Droughns, 28, should provide the Giants a solid insurance policy and a veteran and tested back who can share the ball-carrying chores with Jacobs, a two-year veteran. Jacobs has been the complementary back to Barber, playing mostly in short-yardage and goal-line situations in his two NFL seasons"

Traded Reuben for a WR? What sense does that make?

I think the Browns would have traded Droughns for a french prostitute with genital warts if they could, they just wanted to get rid of him.

Heres the thing This just isn't Droughns for Carter. It's Droughns, not paying 3.5 mill cap hit next season, and whatever hit we would take just to cut him...for Carter.

Now there's a little bit more of space under the cap.

Wow! We actually got something for him instead of just cutting him... I guess that would be the point in taking a WR... A position we need depth at.

I think we were lucky to get anything at all. Everyone knew we were releasing him. To pick up a former 2nd rounder (46th overall) that has never come into his own is a a risk/reward proposition that may or may not work out but essentially we've traded Droughns for Lewis and a throw-in WR. I'll take the deal any day of the week.

There's still a cap hit, we're still responsible for paying his bonus, as I understand. Money wise this is nothing different than cutting him, it's just that we get a player in exchange as well.

Right, but we wouldn't have been responsible for it if we cut him either. We'll still get a cap hit from his original signing bonus which we paid, it would have been spread over the length of the contract, but it will instead be accelerated to this year.

I like Tim Carter, even though he is on a Suggs level of injury prone.

Did Droughns actually get an extension signing bonus though? If so, I dont' think it was very much.

Whats nice about Carter is he's a special teams guy.

He's a good returner if I'm not mistaken.

Possibly, fill in for Cutt

not that I care .. as we have plenty of cap room .. but how do u know were still not responsible for this years bonus .. or does the other guy know we are?? just curious .. as i said i could care less ..

I like Carter .. hes a decent 3 or 4 .. he gets hurt all the time .. but when he plays hes pretty good ... i like him better than cutt all ready ,...

this is a very pleasant surprise ....

Opies doing a very good job so far ..

Right...good job Phil....soemthing is better than nothing and looking at our other WRs, we needed some speed badly...he´s going to battle Wilson for the slot position and can help us stretch the field in shotgun formations.....I really like this move, I expected a lot less

Man, just when I thought the FA period was slowing down! Phil said it woudn't be anything like last year -- and that may be the case -- but there have certainly been some surpises.

From what I read the new team is responsible for a bonus that isn't tendered before the due date..not the old team.
We're responsible for any past money due him but not future..thats why they got rid of him before the 17th.
Not that U care.

This year, with some talent on the team, he's able to use the sniper rifle instead of the shotgun.

Has anyone else had to deal with the "buying jerseys, then seeing that player go to another team" as much as me?

I have couch, green, warren, brown..........none of them play here.......but I spent too much to get rid of the jerseys.......damn man, I can only do so much.

Thank God I got a Clay Matthews jersey for Christmas this year!!!

In the future, all my purchases will be of former players that stuck around......

I'd say you'd be safe with a Wimbley jersey.

Phil must see something in Tim Carter he likes because he has shown interest before:

The Browns, meanwhile, also are interested in Giants free agent receiver Tim Carter, who will interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

Right on, Arch. I had a William Green jersey, and my wife had a Suggs jersey and a Droughns jersey.

Getting old time players or a personalized jersey must be the way to go, now!

Hey can you fill me in on this? Did Toad say he would leave the board if Droughns got traded? It almost seems that way with the posts you all are doing.
