lol, no, I don't think Toad will leave.
It was just common knowledge around here that he had a harsh man-crush on Droughns, lol.

lol... but to get back on point; from the Home Page: Droughns traded to Giants for WR Carter Jeff Walcoff, Staff Writer 03.09.2007 Just two days after the Browns acquired former Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, the team said 'goodbye' to its starting back from the past two seasons. Reuben Droughns, who will be entering his eighth NFL season this fall, was traded Friday to the New York Giants for receiver Tim Carter. During his stay in Cleveland, Droughns became the first Brown to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since 1985. He finished 2005 with 1,232 yards and broke the team's single-season record with 309 carries. His numbers regressed in '06, however, when he rushed for 758 yards on 220 carries. Droughns came to the Browns in a March 2005 trade that sent Ebenezer Ekuban and Michael Myers to Denver. "Reuben (Droughns) gave the Browns our first 1,000-yard rusher in 20 years during the 2005 season. We wish him the best of luck in New York," Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "As for Tim (Carter), he brings five years of NFL experience and legitimate speed to our receiving corps. We almost signed him last year as an unrestricted free agent, so he will be familiar with the Browns." During five NFL seasons, Carter (6-feet,200 pounds) has caught 72 passes for 967 yards and 3 touchdowns. In 2006, he managed 22 receptions for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns sharing catches with Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer. He joined the league as a second-round draft pick by the Giants in 2002 out of Auburn. According to his bio, Carter is a cousin of Browns Hall of Fame tight end Ozzie Newsome as well as former Cleveland Indian Dwight Gooden. Home Page

It doesn't mean anything, except that it's that much more unlikely we draft Johnson (unless of course we trade Braylon ). Reuben was going to be released if we couldn't trade him. I was just hoping we would get a draft pick for him, maybe a third.

I think he will end up being our #3 WR and also our top kick returner. When he's healthy he's got speed to burn.JMHO

He finally had a healthy season last year and spent it at the #2 position so he got some decent experience even if he wasn't all that productive. The knock on him, (besides being unable to stay healthy,) is his rawness at the position and route running abilities. Hopefully he's improved, but in any case, he is a burner that would be a deep threat, especially with four or five wideouts on the field... Imagine BE, Winslow, Wilson, Joe J & Carter all on the field at once... That would be pretty scary for the DBs.
I doubt he unseats Cribbs as the KR though, but that's JMHO. Maybe he gets a shot at PR.

a little info on our new guy Tim Carter, WR - Auburn Carter by the numbers Ht: 6' Wt: 190 40-yard: 4.32 20-yard: 2.5 10 yard: 1.54 20-yard shuttle: 3.93 Three-cone drill: 6.68 Positives: Has a solid muscular build with long arms and broad shoulders…Fine athlete who also ran track for the Tigers…Has good body control, showing sudden moves coming off the snap…Effective route runner out of the backfield…Has great acceleration as a return man…Works the sidelines well, keeping balance as he extends for the pass…Sinks his hips and separates quickly once he finds the seam. Negatives: Despite his track speed, he lacks flexibility in his moves…Likes to trap the ball, letting it absorb into his body…Has problems changing directions and will tend to lose his concentration when not involved in the play…Has more pick-up speed than a quick initial burst…Had a "high maintenance" personality earlier in his career, but has matured over the years. CAREER NOTES: Two-sport star who was originally a prep quarterback that was converted to cornerback upon arriving at Auburn…Shifted to the offensive side as a sophomore…Has a great future as a return specialist, having gained 956 yards on 40 kickoff returns (23.9 avg) with a touchdown during his career…His 23.9-yard average ranks fourth on the school's career-record list while his 956 yards placed him fifth on the Tigers' all-time chart…Caught 57 passes for 842 yards (14.8 avg) and four touchdowns while starting 15 of 29 games… Added 173 yards on 24 carries (7.2 avg). PERSONAL: Finance major…Cousins with major league baseball players Dwight Gooden and Gary Sheffield and NFL players Darren Nelson, Al Harris, Timothy Newsome, Ozzie Newsome and Carlos Carson...Son of Laura and John Carter…Father played football at Albany State…Born Timothy M. Carter on 9/21/79 in Atlanta, Georgia…Resides in St. Petersburg, Florida. link http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/2002draft/wrs/timcarter.htmsounds like a good trade for phil, especially since in a weeks time droughns would have been cut Go Browns!!!

Has anyone else had to deal with the "buying jerseys, then seeing that player go to another team" as much as me?
I have couch, green, warren, brown..........none of them play here.......but I spent too much to get rid of the jerseys.......damn man, I can only do so much.
Thank God I got a Clay Matthews jersey for Christmas this year!!!
In the future, all my purchases will be of former players that stuck around......
Yup, but I think I can stick some duct tape on my Green jersey and make it into a functional J. Lewis jersey

I'm betting this was all that was really offered. He's as much of a crapshoot as a 6th or 7th rounder and at least we have enough on this guy to know he can be a passable 3rd or 4th receiver.
Browns is the Browns

I don't know if it is a bad move. He probably couldn't get a pick for him. The trade is probably trading one man's junk for another's. <<shrug>>

just another fowler for dorsey trade. in the end both probably won't do too much.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Incredible you came to that conclusion from a "Scouting Report"...forget waiting until he steps on the field and see what kinda value he adds...that's something NFL people have to learn too, huh?

j/k 2006 Tim Carter made his first reception, for 22 yards, of the season in the huge comeback against the Eagles in week two. During the game he also scored his first touchdown of the season, on a fumble return after Plaxico Burress fumbled and the ball rolled into the endzone. Carter was again in the endzone the following week, with 3 receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown versus the Seahawks. He had another strong showing against Washington, with 4 receptions for 44 yards. Carter ended the season with 22 receptions for 253 and 3 touchdowns, despite garnering only 8 starts. I think he could be a good return guy, and will give us a deep fast guy to open up the D some...jmo

Dude.........Carter might not make the team..........it's just fact. We have BE, JJ, TW, and JC all signed long term, and they aren't going anywhere. That leaves him fighting for a roster spot with the rest of the fodder beneath him. I don't mind the trade, because I don't think they would have given us a pick for RD.............and we got someone who MIGHT help us next year..........like Vers said it's something when I thought we couldn't get squat for him.........good job Opie!!

I'd rather have cutt than this guy. At least Cutt can return Punts. If carter sees the field much it just means that Travis Wilson was a bad draft pick.

Just wonder how Rueben is going to deal with Tom Coughlin. Tom is the type of coach that can have his team up by 20 points...........and he continues to yell and scream at this players! That may not work well with Rueben.............he may have some flashbacks of his girl...........and pick Coughlin up and throw him like a football!

Geez, sounds like another Quincy Morgan
Carter's got upside and is a burner. I would have certainly preferred a 5th rounder, but Carter is better than nothing.

I think this is a great move. I think it was pretty obvious we were going to cut him....so we might was well get the best we can out of him... It is an even trade for both teams....Besides with Cutt gone we needed another WR.. Great move Phil

The move makes sense to me. We were going to cut droughns is a few days and we just lost Northcutt so a wideout spot was open on the team.
This guy might not be anything great but you need to go into a season with 4-5 receivers. This keeps us from "having to" draft one in the late rounds and allows us to bring in a flyer on O-line,D-line, or corner later in the draft..
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Some points of interest: Browns trade Reuben Droughns to Giants NFL.com wire reports CLEVELAND (March 9, 2007) -- Reuben Droughns, Cleveland's only 1,000-yard rusher since 1985, was traded to the New York Giants, who need a feature running back following Tiki Barber's retirement. In return for Droughns, who became expendable after the Browns signed free agent Jamal Lewis to a one-year contract, the Giants sent Cleveland wide receiver Tim Carter. As part of a three-year contract extension he signed last year, Droughns was due a roster bonus this month. But instead of paying him or releasing the 28-year-old and getting nothing in return, the Browns acquired Carter, a part-time starter who had 22 catches for 253 yards and two touchdowns last season. The Browns also terminated the contract of cornerback Daylon McCutcheon, one of only two players left from their 1999 expansion team. McCutcheon missed all of last season following microfracture surgery on his knee. In his first season with Cleveland in 2005, Droughns rushed for 1,232 yards, becoming the first Browns back to eclipse 1,000 yards since Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner did it in 1985. But slowed by injuries and personal problems, Droughns was a big disappointment last season, gaining just 758 yards. He was arrested but later acquitted on drunken driving charges and had a domestic violence case against him dropped by prosecutors in Denver citing a lack of evidence. Droughns missed two games with injuries and had only two 100-yard games in 2006. He was running behind an injury-ravaged offensive line that couldn't regroup after losing center LeCharles Bentley to a season-ending knee injury. The Giants are hoping to get the '05 Droughns, who will likely compete with bruising third-year back Brandon Jacobs to fill Barber's vacant spot. It's also possible the Giants could rotate them, using a similar two-back system to the one employed by Super Bowl champion Indianapolis. "Reuben rushed for 1,200 yards in '04 and '05 and 750 last year," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. "We think he gives us a nice veteran presence and compliments Brandon Jacobs and the rest of our running back group nicely." Droughns also has played fullback, his position in Denver for two years before his breakout season in 2004 when he gained 1,240 yards and scored a career-high six touchdowns. The Browns were last in the league in rushing last season, and appear ready to let the 27-year-old Lewis, who gained an NFL single-game record 295 yards against them in 2003, be their primary back.
But the addition of Lewis doesn't mean they won't pick Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson with the No. 3 overall selection in next month's draft. Also, the Browns have signed Bengals defensive tackle Shaun Smith to a four-year offer sheet. The Bengals have seven days to match the deal or they'll lose the restricted free agent, who would follow offensive tackle Eric Steinbach to Cleveland. The Browns signed Steinbach to a seven-year free agent deal last week. Carter's best season was in 2003, when he had 26 catches for 309 yards.
"He brings five years of NFL experience and legitimate speed to our receiving corps," Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "We almost signed him last year as an unrestricted free agent, so he will be familiar with the Browns." Source

Sam ehere, I got a Jim Brown autographed mini helmet for 50 bucks, I love that thing!
How did you get a signed jersey for only $100?, just wondering, usually they cost like $300-$500.
Find what you love and let it kill you.

nice....too bad the guys a jerk. Met him at an airport and he was rude to people. I was shocked and I admired him so much being a diehard Browns fan. They were fans wearing Browns Jerseys at the airport in Cleveland. I thought he would have treated Browns fans better. I am not kidding.....he was not nice.
