Wow, Donatell has been out of the NFL since 2006 ......
He's always had kinda middle defenses from the looks of things. Kind of a strange guy for a team to consider for DC.

After a little more checking, he is the 49'ers secondary coach. That makes sense then. From what I had read, it sounded like he had been sitting at home for the past few years.

Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports that the Raiders have requested permission to interview Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. New Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie knows Whitt from their time together in Green Bay, where the 33-year-old rising position coach has helped develop former undrafted free agent cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Sam Shields into starters. The Packers, however, can opt to decline Oakland’s request to interview Whitt because the promotion offered does not involve a head-coaching job. Whitt has been on the Packers’ staff since 2008. In Oakland, Whitt would answer to defensive-minded new head coach Dennis Allen.

Daboll did a great job in Miami. It's almost impossible to know what he did here given the crap he had to work with.

That is, by definition, below average. Below average is not great.
Colt McCoy was 22nd in passing yards, 22nd in passing TD's and 25th in YPG. Would you say that he did a great job in Cleveland this season?

The Dolphins went from 30th in points scored in 2010, to 20th in 2011.
That's a huge improvement.
If McCoy has gone 30th the year before, and improved to 22nd, that would be a significant improvement. he didn't. Our offense also went in reverse as far as scoring points.
The Dolphins outscored us 329 to 218. The year before we scored 271 and they scored 273. They went up ..... significantly. We went down .... significantly.
Coordinators are judged on whether their units improve or not. There is no question that the Dolphins improved last year on offense over the year before.
It is rare that a team goes from 30th in scoring to top 10. Carolina managed it with a new QB and a new OC ...... but that's the exception. Usually teams have to take steps to get to where they want to go. The Dolphins took steps on offense last year.

Improvement does not equal a great job.
Daboll's offense was below average by NFL standards. Miami's offense doesn't crack the top half of any pertinent numbers.
And that's with a 1,000 rusher and a 1,000 yard receiver.
You honestly think that ranking below average in every major statistical offensive category is 'a great job'?

I believe that taking an offense from 2nd last in the NFL in scoring to 20th is a great job.
I would consider that a great job if Shurmur and his staff did so next year as well.

If Shumur presides over another 10+ loss season, and our offense is still dwelling in the bottom half of the league, I don't think I'll be crediting him with a 'great job'.
Daboll's offense produced less yardage than Miami did in the previous year. His offense scored three points more per game. Taking away defensive touchdowns, his offense averaged 19.6 PPG. The offense improved to the tune of a field goal a game, and that was with the addition of Reggie Bush.
For the life of me, I cannot comprehend the logic behind someone arguing that a 19.6 PPG clip is a 'great job'. I can understand 'improvement'. I can understand making an argument for 'average'. But 'great job'?

Considering Shurmers Offense has scored over 21 points something like twice in three years of being a coordinator I would be slobbering myself.

The Cardinals hired former Colts quarterbacks coach Frank Reich Wednesday, but they are making him a wide receivers coach. John McNulty is moving from receivers coach to quarterbacks coach in Arizona. Reich was Manning’s quarterbacks coach for two seasons in Indianapolis. He was switched to receivers coach with the Colts in 2011. It’s hard to imagine the Cardinals making a run at Manning because of timing. They have to pay Kevin Kolb a big roster bonus on March 17. It’s hard to imagine them coming to agreement with Manning on a deal before then, and the team has indicated it plans to bring Kolb back.

Our head coach used be an offensive linemen and coach the offensive line. Then he coached quarterbacks.
I think things like this happen all the time.

Yep. Want to move up to OC, then learn more than just one position on the coaching staff.
It helps getting that extra, and different, perspective.

Agreed. Plus an OL coach moving to QB coach is a natural move. Understanding the OL's assignments that well lends to teaching the QB what is going on up front.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com now reports that Schiano has hired Davis. Per Marvez, Davis will be the team’s senior defensive assistant. Davis was defensive line coach for the 1992 Cowboys and defensive coordinator for the 1993 edition of the team. Both won the Super Bowl. He thereafter spent six seasons as head coach at the University of Miami, before jumping to the Cleveland Browns. Fired after four seasons in Cleveland, Davis resurfaced in Chapel Hill. He was out of coaching in 2011. In 1999 and 2000, Schiano worked for Davis at Miami, as the team’s defensive coordinator

but this is Daboll's 3rd different team in 3 years as OC.Not exactly a glowing endorsement.
but then again the KC Chiefs have one of the most dysfuncational front offices in the NFL.
I think Daboll is their 5th OC in 5 years.
Chiefs fans are probally wishing Carl Peterson comes back.

Both time he changed teams was after the HC there got canned... RARELY are coordinators ever kept on...
The fact that he continues to get OC jobs is more telling.. Somebody sees something in him...

Just curious, why do you consider the KC Front office to be dysfunctional?
When Scott Paiola came along, he brought RAC and Weis in. RAC stayed and is now the HC. Weis wanted college.. I think Arians is only thier 3rd OC since Scott took over..I could be wrong, but I think tha'ts accurate.

LIke I said, I don't follow the Chiefs all that much.. is that what they did? Firing the OC,, was that the GM's call or the HC?
by the way, I was commenting on the FO of the chiefs being dysfunctional.. Said nothing about them being in turmoil..
I merely wanted to know why Kendall thought they were so dysfunctional....

part of the FOs job is to keep a team out of turmoil. if a team is in turmoil, then the FO is being dysfunctional IMO.

I thought Weiss inexplicably left his OC spot in KC for an OC spot at UF? I didn't think he was fired. Not sure why he would be, he took a 4-12 team and in his first year they had the best rushing attack, the #9 overall offense and went 10-6..
