Most years I decide to pick one draft eligible player to highlight that I think is going to be a very good pro or significantly outperform his draft slot. This year it's LaVonte David. The Nebraska games I've seen he just really jumped offf the screeen as a great pursue and tackle backer. He's one of the fastest players at that position I've seen and I think he'll be an All-Pro caliber guy in the NFL at the WILL. His speed kind of reminds me of Troy Polamalu in that once he decides where to go and what to do he just gets there faster than anyone else. In previous years it was Chris Johnson, pre-combine when he was a third round prospect. Eric Decker was a couple years ago. Greg Salas was last year. Both those players are currently underperforming what I expected but most would say they're playing pretty well. But sometimes I get it wrong. I was a lurker on the old board for about month before I decided to join and add to the discussion. The reason? To tell everybody what a prospect Quincy Morgan was going to be! I was born in Manhattan KS and I follow K-State fairly closely. When Quincy dominated Tennessee in their bowl game. In the snow, going for more than 200 yards, and they way he did it by physically dominating the opponent like Blackmon did against Stanford...well I thought he would be a very good pro. And I hoped that my Browns would draft him. When he was I was thrilled! OOPS! A couple years later I was convinced that Najeh Davenport would significantly outperform his draft position. He was injured in the first game of his senior season against OSU and didn't play the rest of the year. I had seen him the previous year in spot duty just crushing some guys and blasting away from others. Looked like Jerome Bettis with serious wheels. He ran on the 4x100 track team at the U and he was 250? 260? In a one cut zone blocking system I thought he'd be a terror in the NFL. Then he pooped in a girls laundry basket. I mean really? The guy ended up being a headcase and he never displayed the physical qualities he had before the injury. Recently I thought Rhodes Scholar FSU Safety Myron Rolle was headed for stardom. He was the top prospect in the country coming out of HS. I saw a game he played against the U that he just wreaked havoc. I thought he was going to be a very good pro. When he was training for the combine his agent and trainer both said that he was currently running in the high 4.3s. With that speed, that talent, and those smarts, I thought he'd be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick. Nope! D'oh! Facepalm smiley! Was there a prospect you were really wrong on? That you were convinced would be good? Just thought it'd be a fun topic. I joined the old board to pump Quincy Morgan for God sakes!

The first step toward healing is admitting your wrongs, lol I don't tend to speculate or pimp the college guys all that much because I don't watch college ball, but the biggest name that jumps out to me that I was wrong about is Robert Gallery.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Myron Rolle - Safety.
He was a smart player who's biggest concern was that he was more focused on academics (Rhodes Scholar already planning to be an MD). Hasn't done anything yet.

Even the pros are wrong sometimes. Heckert not only drafted TJ Ward and Joe Haden, he also drafted Larry Asante the same draft.
I was Wrong on Cade McKnown, ( Chicago Bear) I thought he was better than Donovan McNabb, but that same year I think the Bengals took Akili Smith, and the Browns took Tim Couch.
So I was right about Couch being the 3rd best qb taken that year, or 4th, somebody else, a Viking that year, was the 2nd best, but I thought is was Cade McKnown .
In the day the Browns took Quincy Morgan, I didn't know about Quincy Morgan but I was a fan of Chad Johnson ( Ocho Cincho) that year before the draft, and was not even aware he was still on the board and then, the Bengals take him with the very next pick after the Browns.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Yes. And I think I have to apologize to people I've wronged next. Or maybe that's later.
I've never made it that far in AA.

Asante was a 5th round pick - most people know they are going to miss on those more than half the time.
I thought Aaron Curry was going to be special.

I thought that Cam Jordan was going to be a force at DE.
He's been solid for the Saints, but has not been the pass rusher I expected him to be.
I thought that Gerald McCoy was going to be as good as Suh ..... but it hasn't been close.
I did think that Taylor Mays would bust, and I think that's a correct call.

When I saw the thread title, I thought for sure it had been started by you. Quinn for me. I don't watch much college ball but Quinn had a trajectory in college of getting better each year. I thought that was a positive sign and all he needed was time. But I knew it wasn't going to happen for him when he talked about a conversation he had with his bro-in-law Hawk where they discussed how really unimportant football was in the grand scheme of things. It was like conceding you're not very good. Coincidentally Hawk was trending toward bust at the time as well.

I have to admit that I thought that Quinn would be good when we drafted him, and then after he lit up the pre-season.
Then he went in t real games and I wasn't impressed. (even when people were telling me how great he was)

let's talk first rounders...
I really liked Knowshon Moreno, RB from Georgia and Brandon Graham but they're not doing well
Was right on Jamarcus Russell (bust), Patrick Willis, Derrick Harvey (bust), Polamalu

these are some funny quotes...answers later
"...is a Brian Westbrook-type of back. He lacks ideal size, which likely will prevent him from ever emerging as a load-carrier in the NFL...."
"....After making a questionable pick late in the first round with Kiwanuka, the Giants made an excellent pick here" (of which both statements are wrong!)
"he should push for immediate playing time, but this isn't a great pick for two reasons. First, the xxx have more pressing needs. Second, they are reaching by taking xxx this early in the first round"

Good thread
I was wrong on Tebow and I am a Gator.
I just didn't think his game would be able to make the transition, but as a Gator fan I'm happy for him proving me wrong especially if Denver can hold on to beat the Steelers.
Then the Cinderella season will continue.

Off the top of my head, I was dead wrong on Gallery, and dead right on Ngata. The later one still pisses me off to this day.
I Think everyone and there brother was right on Joe Thomas. So I'm glad he hasn't come up yet.

Oh ... I didn't think that Tebow would ever be a real NFL QB, let alone a playoff QB..

I'll bet that the Toad claims that Robiskie could still prove him wrong and actually make an NFL other than the Browns and see the field.

Count me in on that one. Some of the bigger "wrongs" on this board that I can remember are David Terrell (I remember the sig. of "David, David, David") and Ashley Lelie.
Courtney Brown was another one of my misses(I was convinced that he was the reason Lavarr Arrington was so good in college),

I don't follow college ball as much as a lot of you guys, so I've never really been high on a guy and been proven wrong. Only two guys I really liked have been LeSean McCoy and Blackmon.
But, one guy I was wrong about was Justin Zwick. I saw him play in HS, and I thought for sure he'd be a no. 1 draft pick someday. Then he went to OSU and, well, the rest is history.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I lost a bet on Zwick that he would get drafted by the 5th round. I thought a pro team would like his size and potential and draft him even though he sucked when he had his chances.

James Hardy WR from Indiana taken by the Bills...never saw him busting this hard I was also very high on Alphonso Smith, CB...former Denver HC McDaniels traded away 2 high picks to get him at the top of the 2nd...while not a complete bust (he's #2/#3 CB on the Lions and has 8 INTs teh past 2 seasons after being cut by the Donks after his rookie year Gotta be some character stuff I didn't know about, because I'm never THIS wrong On the flip side, I had the onions to mock Barwin at 17th overall at a time when his stock was even lower at where he got drafted (2nd)...hey EO, who's laughing now and how's Everette Brown doing these days?

I can stay with my alma mater and answer this.. I thought EJ Henderson was going to be a beast of a MLB.. he's decent but nowhere near where I thought he would be.. on the flip side, I was very high on Vernon Davis when many on this board thought he was nothing more than a physical freak and a workout warrior and would be a bust... and I was dead wrong on Courtney Brown, thought he would be great, (I still think that without injuries he might have been)..

Lee Suggs. I was sure he would be a pretty good running back. He did show flashes. And, along with the rest of the world, I thought Tony Mandarich would be the best O linemen to ever play the game.

ahhhh Mr. Suggs. I too felt he was a steel at that pick. a 4th i think if memory serves. Even though he proved too fragile it was still a great gamble at that slot.
