My main thought: I want to get Flynn (or even stick with McCoy) and get WR/RT/RB in the first 3 picks (in some order – any order really). I am not opposed to other players if they are considered BPA at their selection though.
#4 selection
1. Blackmon – if we go with Colt for one more year, get Flynn, or decide on a later drafted QB (Foles perhaps?), then we need to get weapons. There is no better QB-friend in this draft than Justin Blackmon.
2. RGIII – if he drops and we don’t get a QB elsewhere, then this could very well be the pick. Good long-ball, good movement, but possibly issues learning a NFL offense as he came from a spread (WCO is considered tough to learn – Cam did a lot of spread stuff for Chud, but Bradford picked up the WCO pretty quickly under Shurmur his rookie year).
3. Kalil – due to the new rookie contracts, this would not kill our cap as a RT. And we would have perhaps the 2 best bookend OTs in the NFL. This frees up a possibility of drafting WR/RB (K-Wright/Polk) or RB/WR (Milller/Sanu) with our next two picks.
4. Claiborne – Holmgren teased the media with the possibility, but if Claiborne is the BPA, then we could go Claiborne.
5. Richardson – he is an elite talent and the best RB, but I just don’t like drafting RB in the top10 and I do like Lamar Miller and Chris Polk too (so there are guys we can have later).
6. Trade down – if RGIII or Kalil is there, then we might get a lot of calls from other teams to trade down. If we can secure a next year 1st rounder + 2nd rounder this year + lower picks in addition to trading down to their slot, then I think this could happen (obviously a bit less if we don’t trade down very far).
7. Trade up – I am hoping that we do not trade up. We need to add too much talent to this team.
#22 selection
1. Lamar Miller – I see him as a L.McCoy. So, I would not mind going RB in the 1st round for him. He’s fast, he’s quick, he has good vision and he can catch. The only knock on him is he isn’t going to plow over anyone.
2. K.Wright – RGIII’s main weapon and draws similarities to Mike Wallace and Steve Smith (CAR). Only issue is that WRs with his size usually go much later in the draft.
3. M. Floyd / A. Jeffrey – some teams will have these guys listed above K-Wright on their boards. They are WRs who have physically more gifts and are bigger guys. Both likely 1st rounders and guys to pay attention to here.
4. Ingram, DE, SoCar – If we are going to go defense at this slot, then I really hope we get Ingram. He looks like he might be a real good pass-rushing DE in the NFL, but that means he likely will go in the teens. A potential target on a trade-up.
5. N.Perry, DE USC – sort of dominated the Pac12 OLs on pure athleticism. Really raw but a ton of potential especially as a pass rusher. Would really consider him here if he drops.
6. Janoris Jenkins, CB, N.Bama – well, if he slips down this far, then we may decide to go after our CB2 here. We took chances on guys with previous off-field issues for defense last year.
7. Barron, S, Bama – If we decide to address S in this draft, Barron is the only one grading out in the first 2 rounds. But, he’s a SS, not the FS we need. I don’t think we go with him, but if Jauron doesn’t care about the distinction, he’s a possibility at least.
8. Z.Sanders, OT, FSU – I see him as a 2nd rounder and do want him there, but a contending team may really want an OT and he may be the best that is left at this point. If he is, we might need to grab him or go with a lesser talent later (Adcock would be my choice at RT if Z is gone – think he is undervalued at the moment).
9. Hightower, Upshaw, LB Bama – if we go LB here, then these could be our targets. Hightower would be MLB. Upshaw is more a 3-4 OLB and could even be a DE for a 4-3 team (so someone else will probably value him more than us).
10. Tannehill, QB, A&M – with the foot injury, he may move into the round2
11. Trade up – Any of the guys above could get movement upwards and a potential small move up could be in order.
12. Trade down – if we miss out on the guys we are targeting, this is the area of the draft that usually has the MOST movement in trades.
#37 selection
1. Sanu, WR Rutgers – definitely the size we need, but doesn’t have great speed. And, we already have Little (though Sanu appears to be a much better route runner and has great hands)
2. Z.Sanders – If we haven’t picked an OT yet and he drops here, then we should take him. I’ve seen some movement on Osmele as possibly moving up here, but haven’t seen enough of him. Adcock is another possibility (though if he could last to round3 then we should be all over that).
3. C. Minnifield – would be nice to have a Minnifield back in the backfield. return skills to boot. If we go offense with both the first 2 picks, then I think he’ll be considered here (if GB doesn’t snag him too in the late 1st).
4. Chris Polk / David Wilson – I like Polk better because he has that solid base but is still explosive. Either way, if we draft a RB here, then it’ll be one of these 2 guys.
5. L.David, OLB, Nebraska – I like him more than Zach Brown for sure. He’s probably the best LB that will be available in this slot, but there are some guys I like later that could be useful as well (S.Spence in particular).
6. N.Foles, QB, Zona – I prefer a guy like Foles in the 3rd/4th round. But, if we do decide to draft a QB and pass up on Flynn, RGIII, Tannehill in the 1st, then we might reach a bit for Foles here to make sure we get him.
7. V.Curry, DE, Marshall – I think this is way too high for him, but this is where some mocks have him going. If he’s there in round3, then I would consider. Not here.
8. Trade Up – usually too expensive IMO to trade up from this slot (if you want to go into the 1st round at least)\
9. Trade Down – always possible in this movement heavy area of the draft.
